  1. I'm ready to make any team expecting a mediocre defenseman with untapped potential proud
  2. Two and a half weeks ago, Ontario born defenseman Nik Dufresne wasn't sure what the future had in store for him. Dufrense had surprised many people by joining the VHLM. Most people expected Nik to join his brother Marc in the PHL and that ultimately he would put his name in the hat for the S8 PHL draft. Nik decided to fill out the necessary paperwork to join the VHLM. As a late entry, who joined the league after the draft, Dufresne was exposed to the VHLM's waiver system and he had no idea where he would end up. 24 hours later and Dufresne was a member of the Saskatoon Wild. D Downtown Saskatoon Nik Dufresne was happy with how things ended up working out. He found out that he was joining the Wild from his agent Niklas Kurri. "Hey Nik, congratulations your going to the fuckin' middle of the country to go fishing and play some hockey. You need to get off of your ass and get into shape!" Say's Dufresne's agent, "Your lucky, your going to the best place in the league to keep improving your game. You can become a great hockey player there. Your going to be bored all the fuckin time and pretty much can just focus on improving your game. Yeah sure, there's a lot of people and it's a cool city but there's just honestly not much to do which worked really well for me. I'm a fuckin legend there Nik, They wish they could find somebody who could score goals like me and the boards are the only thing that kept opponents from flying into the crowd when I would check them. Sometimes the boards weren't even enough, I was a fuckin beast Nik! You need to go there and just work your ass off." After Dufresne got off the phone with his agent, Saskatoon General Manager ADwyer would be the next person to get in contact with the Wild's newest defenseman. "Nik, Welcome to the team! Somebody gave some advice and said that you would be worth picking up. Honestly... I have no idea who the fuck you are but I'm happy to have you on board! So your a goaltender right?" And with that Nik was officially on his way to his next journey as a professional hockey player. The Saskatoon Wild are a team on the rise and they will look for Dufresne to further stabilize the teams defense. Dufresne is off to a pretty good start on the ice. Through his first 20 games with the Wild, Dufresne has scored 2 goals, assisted on 5 others and has a very solid plus/minus rating of +12. Dufresne is still developing his game but has shown the ability to do a little bit of everything. Nik has 29 hits showing that he's not afraid to play a physical game.

  6. VHLM prospect Nik Dufresne After taking some time to evaluate his options, Nik Dufresne announced his intentions to join the VHLM. Dufresne submitted all of the necessary paperwork to join the league late on Thursday evening. Nik is the younger brother of PHL player Marc Dufresne, Marc is a two-way center who has been a staple in the Seattle Sockeyes line-up for a number of seasons. "Yeah It's been pretty cool over the years, having somebody like Marc to lean on." Says the younger Dufresne, "He's a few years older than me and I've definitely looked up to him a lot, especially when I was younger. Seeing how successful he has become made me realize that I could accomplish whatever I set my mind to. As long as I worked hard enough and dedicated myself to becoming a successful hockey player, I would eventually get an opportunity to prove myself. I've spent the past few breaks I've had from school, traveling with the Sockeyes and I feel like I've learned a lot. It's definitely an advantage to be able to see what professionals do to prepare themselves for the game at the highest level." Dufresne has spent the past two seasons attending and staring on the ice for a private school in Halifax, Nova Scotia. In his senior year, Dufresne scored 18 goals and assisted on 33 others during his teams 20 game season. Dufresne was drafted in the 2nd round, by the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League, but Nik declined the opportunity to play for them and instead attended the private school in Halifax. Rumors are that Dufresne demanded a trade to his hometown Oshawa Generals, but the Rangers management refused to budge on their stance. Nik during high school "You know, I don't really want to get into the specifics of why I didn't play for Kitchener. I'll tell you that I'm very happy with the decision I ended up making. I had a great time in Halifax and I received a great education. It would have been nice to play hockey at a higher level, but that wasn't my primary concern." Says Dufresne, There was a lot of talk that Nik could join the PHL. The PHL was ultimately the direction that his older brother chose to go in, but Nik again decided to follow his own personal goals and made another surprising decision. "It was an easy choice for me. The VHL is a premier hockey league and I feel that I can become an impact player here. I hope that a team sees enough potential in me to give me a shot. I look forward to developing my game in the VHLM before I eventually try out my game at the very pinnacle of hockey, the VHL."
