  2. Obviously in the wrong spot, can somebody move this to written point tasks for me? Thanks.
  3. Niklas Kurri scored 16 goals last season Niklas Kurri is among the players who failed to reach an agreement with their current team and is now among the players who have declared free agency. Kurri is coming off of his rookie season in the VHL, it's very rare for a player to reach free agency at such an early stage of their career. Kurri failed to reach an agreement with the Seattle Bears after a series of limited discussions which saw the Bears offer Kurri a one year deal at a very low salary and simply instruct the forward to go sign his contract. Kurri's agent obviously wasn't amused and that brings us to where we are today. Represented by the same management as SHL star Valterri Bottas, Kurri was considered a sleeper to develop into a top VHL forward. While the expectations were not too high considering that the Finn was just a 3rd Round Pick, many expected Kurri to have a better rookie season then he ended up having with the Bears. Kurri was instrumental to the Saskatoon Wild for multiple seasons, culminating in Jari's nephew being named captain of the squad and winning the Yzerman trophy as the VHLM's top two-way forward. Despite the award Kurri received very limited ice time in defensive situations for Seattle. Rumors are that Kurri was not very happy with the role that the coaching staff ended up using him in. Kurri was initially placed on the teams 4th line before being moved up the lineup. The statistics that Kurri put up in his rookie season won't jump out at you but if you look at the numbers closely, the potential is definitely there for Kurri to develop into a player who can effect the game in a number of different ways. Kurri registered 16 goals, 20 assists and over 200 hits, scoring at .5 ppg and registering nearly 3 hits per contest. Kurri also is improving in the face-off dot and seems dedicated to developing into a two-way player who helps his team across all 3 zones. If Kurri puts everything together, One VHL team could be acquiring a key piece to the puzzle this off-season without sacrificing any assets. Kurri is said to be looking for a organization that is willing to give him a definitive role on the team and can be competitive now and into the future. Some familiarity with some of the people among the organization would definitely be a plus. Kurri realizes he needs to dedicate himself to improving more if he ever wants to be a true impact player for the organization which he signs with. I'll be patiently waiting to receive some offers! I'm looking forward to seeing what my next opportunity in the VHL will be. Cheers.
  4. The Seattle Bears have not been very successful in recent years. That is all changing this season as Seattle has seen a huge turnaround. The Bears have begun the season with a record of 13 wins and only 6 losses. The teams start has propelled them to the 2nd best record in the VHL. A huge part of the teams success has been the play of the teams second year players. Brady Stropko is 2nd in the VHL with 16 goals, Rift Pajodcast and Jakub Rhinehart are averaging over a point per game. Perhaps the biggest key to Seattle's success is the play of former #1 overall pick, Niklaus Mikaelson. The goaltender is 3rd in the VHL with a save percentage of .920%. Newly acquired defenseman Phil Villeneuve has been a great addition to the teams locker-room and has definitely stabilized the blue-line on the ice as well. With the success of Seattle's sophomores, the play of teams rookies may be being overlooked by people around the league and in the media. The Bears roster features 5 rookies, Defensemen Borje Samuelsson and Nicklas Karlsson, Centers A.C. Savage and Niklas Kurri, as well as the 3rd overall selection in the most recent entry draft, winger Wolfgang Strauss. A.C. Savage and Borje Samuelsson scoring goals. Perhaps the most impressive player among the Bears group of rookies has been Swedish defenseman, Borje Samuelsson. Samuelsson has scored 5 goals and added 14 assists through Seattle's 19 games. The towering defenseman who stands 6'7" has averaged over 25 minutes a game and blocked 31 shots. Samuelsson is also 2nd on the team with a plus/minus rating of +8, only fellow rookie Nicklas Karlsson has a better plus/minus. You could make an argument that Karlsson, another young Swedish defenseman, has been the most impressive player among all of the Bears defenseman. Karlsson has been paired with Villeneuve on the teams top defensive pairing and has averaged over 27 minutes per contest and has not looked out of place in the process. As previously mentioned, Karlsson leads the team with a plus/minus rating of +9. Karlsson also leads the team with 34 shot blocks. Nicklas has also managed to stay out of the penalty box, taking just 7 penalty's so far this season. While they may not be producing at the same level as the clubs rookie defenseman, Seattle's trio of rookie forwards have all been solid contributors for the team. A.C. Savage has 13 points and is a plus 6 plus/minus rating. Last season's Yzerman trophy winner (VHLM's two way forward award), Niklas Kurri has put up 11 points and registered 39 hits, but the club has played Jakub Rhinehart on the PK over Kurri despite Rhinehart's suspect defensive game. Wolfgang Strauss has put up 11 points as well and played a key role in the Bears attack. The "true freshman" has averaged nearly 25 minutes a game and should continue to develop into one of the top forwards in the VHL. Nicklas Karlsson and Wolfgang Strauss celebrate a goal. The future is bright in Seattle!

  9. Niklas Kurri at Seattle's Development Camp. Season 41 was a great season for the Saskatoon Wild that ended up in a great disappointment. Brandon Holmes scored the game winning goal for the Yukon Rush in Game 7 of the Conference Finals and broke the hearts of the people in the town of Saskatoon in the process. The Wild had played exceptionally well throughout the regular season and had easily moved on against captain Niklas Kurri's former team, The Brampton Blades, in their first playoff test. The Wild finishing the regular season with a record of 59 Wins, 11 Losses and 2 Overtime Losses. Saskatoon swept the Blades, outscoring them 22-6 in the 1st round series. Kurri tips in a shot during game 6 of the Conference Finals against Yukon. Things were looking very promising for the Wild as the team took games 4 and 5 of the Conference Finals and had the opportunity to close out the series on home ice against the Yukon Rush in game 6. Despite being outshot 32 to 23, Yukon beat the Wild 4-1 and forced a game 7. Holmes scored his first goal of the post-season late in the 1st period of game 7, with Kurri sitting in the penalty box after hooking Rush defender Patrick Demko. Ryan Cattrall scored early in the 2nd period and Yukon goalie stopped all 24 Saskatoon shots through the first two periods. The Rush would enter the final twenty minutes of play with a 2-0 lead. Travis Willcox scored his 9th goal of the post-season less then 2 minutes into the period to cut the Yukon lead in half. The Wild had a difficult time generating much offense but Kurri took over on a play and tied the game with just over 8 minutes remaining to play in the 3rd period. The goal was just the 3rd of the post-season for the native of Helsinki, Finland. Four and a half minutes later, Holmes, The Rush star defenseman, scored his 2nd goal of the game. The goal would prove to be the difference and send Yukon to the Cup Finals. Kurri had one of the most complete season's in recent memory for any player in the VHLM, but his post-season production did slip a little bit before he was able to pot a couple goals in the game 6 and 7 losses to Yukon. When asked if he was happy with how his season went Nik had this to say.. "No. I'm definitely not happy with how the season went. As captain of this team, my goal was to bring home a championship to Saskatoon and I feel I definitely could have played better hockey and helped us accomplish that goal. We had an excellent group of players here this season and I'm disappointed that I didn't get a chance to win a Championship with them. You know, actually I did have a chance, but we didn't get the job done. Hopefully Borje, Niclas and myself can win one together in Seattle."
  10. Good luck Bushito, hope everything works out for you. Edit: And looks like it has!
