  1. The Jack Wylde Trophy is one of the most controversial trophies handed out each season during the VHL Awards. It is awarded to the “Top Defensive Defensemen” in the VHL that season. Arguably, this award is the hardest to vote on as it is fairly limited when it comes to statistical categories and we can’t actually see the players. The four main statistics that go into voting for this award are Hits, Shots Blocked, Plus/Minus and for some reason points??? So as you can see it’s quite limited on what the BoG has to look at when deciding the winner of these awards. The inconsistencies in voting for this award are that people tend to value each of these categories differently. Some may find +/- is more important while others think hits are the most important (hits should not ever be the most important for this award). I think their should be actual guidelines when the BoG votes on these awards and the importance of each attribute should be like this: -A combination of +/- and Shots Blocked. This should be ranked at the top of anyone’s list. I know there are many variables on whether the player is on a contender or a bottom feeder and that should definitely be taken into consideration. If player A is on a contender and is a +31 with 112 SBs is up against player B who is on a bottom feeder with a -13 and 250 SBs who would get the award? Do you value +31 on a contender more or SB on a bottom feeding team more? Kind of a wash IMO so let’s move on to the next category. -That is where hits come into play. Hits are important but they can’t be just about the number of hits. It needs to be in comparison to the PIMs the player has acquired as well. If player A has 300 hits but 250 PIMs vs Player B who has 250 hits and 100 PIMs then I am in favour of player B winning this award. A large quantity of hits with low PIMs is not hurting your team. High hits and high PIMs is detrimental to your team and therefore isn’t good defensive play. -Lastly, Points! Points should always be the last thing considered when voting on this award. It should be used only when you’re in a bind deciding between two players who are so statistically close with their defensive numbers. Then you can say well this player got 20 more points with the same defensive numbers and that gives them the edge. This week we have been talking about forum activity and league engagement and the awards are a massive part of that. I don’t feel enough newer members get the opportunity to win these and that discourages them. This award is perfect for newer members because it highlights statistical categories aside from points. The controversy will never end on this award but I do trust that this league will figure it out and that the BoG will vote fairly on award winners each and every off-season.
  2. Simon needs a predecessor to pass the torch on to then
  3. So many ideas already posted here and all great. I will reinforce my opinion in sims that I agree with. 1. Highlighting Players There are a lot of members in this league and I agree with those who think doing a weekly player highlight is a good idea. You could do a highlight that showcases someone who is doing statically well in the VHL/E/M. You also do one specifically about a member and their contribution to the site or their earning ability for the week. It may encourage welfare earners to stop earning welfare. Could even add 2 Capped TPE for whomever wins each week. 2. STHS It’s fairly obvious that STHS has its “quirks.” There’s really only one successful meta for building players. Anytime you try something different your player experiences no success. Constantly upgrading the core four attributes with every player you make will get boring over time and deter members from sticking around. The results the engine spits out are very inconsistent at times and it seems to punish those who’ve put the work in to create a true contending team. I know we can not change STHS but is it possible to get in contact with the creator and put in our suggestions to have the game updated? Or maybe we can look at other potential sim engines to experiment with? 3. League support for forum games/tournaments There are a lot of forum games and tournaments that are set up every season. We have a seasonal chess tournament, Town of Salem games, graphic tourneys, etc. It would be nice to have these supported by the league and advertised to bring light and excitement to these fun events. They don’t have to be hosted by the league as league members already do that. Something as simple as putting up a quick banner announcing an upcoming tourney/game or a league post similar to this one tagging all members about an upcoming tournament. Would potentially get more eyes on these events and create further forum engagement as well.
  4. They do something similar to this in the EFL actually with the budget. Personally I don’t mind it but I also do like “drafting” players similar to a real fantasy league. I’m impartial but would definitely be willing to try something like this if it ever came to be.
  5. You’re not wrong! The forum isn’t as engaging as it once was. I do believe it’s a generational thing. We have a lot of younger users now and discord is a much easier form of communication. It’s easier to drop and article or graphic on the forum for claiming purposes and forget about it. I do believe forum interaction is important because their is more of a widespread interaction with one another. Discord has really made things a lot more private with team channels and players don’t always join the VHL Discord either. I am not against Discord whatsoever. I personally love it but I am also guilty for putting most of my interactions in my team server rather than in the forum or any other server for that matter.
  6. A good sim! Great job Wranglers.
  7. 1. What car do you drive? I have two vehicles! A 2012 Ford F-150 and a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze. I also drive my work truck which is a 2021 Dodge Ram 1500. 2. Where is your dream vacation spot? Hawaii. I am a big “Lost” fan and it was filmed in Oahu, Hawaii. I want to go to the “Island”. 3. Where would you not want to be on vacation? Anywhere with to many bugs or large spiders. No offense to Berocka but I have zero interest in visiting Australia. 4. What is the next position you will make in the VHL? I am strongly considering a goaltender. It will depend on how full the goalie market is. If it’s too populated I’ll likely make a forward. 5. What would be a funny name for a VHL player? I have never been good at coming up with quick and funny names. 6. The blues are looking for a fourth commish who should get the role I would love to have that role. I love this league and I would like to be apart of keeping it a sustainable league for the foreseeable future.
  8. I would like to apply for this position!
  9. Rough day at the office for the Wranglers! Regroup and get back after it tomorrow
  10. Holy shit
  11. 1. Let's just say we've had some good sims. What's the best way to keep that momentum going through the whole season? Dont make to many changes. If it’s not broken then don’t fix it. Sometimes making changes can hurt the team. 2. It turns out that the Big Gustav Moves did not stop after the offseason ended, as we just traded for forward Addison McLaren from Toronto! It does come at a cost, though--all of our high picks are gone. Is this worth it? Its too soon to say. McClaren is a great player but has had poor luck in the VHL. Did we just acquire that bad luck? 3. It occurred to me that I never announced this season's captains. Though we have two captains from previous seasons still in place, one spot remains open! Who would you call the leader of our team (among players not named Taro)? Laine has been a strong presence since joining the team. I really love his positive vibe and team first attitude. 4. What's something you hope to accomplish in the next 10 years? I hope to see all my children grow happy and healthy and we can give them the best childhood we can. 5. You can instantly master any one language. Which do you pick and why? Japanese. I started learning in high school but never committed to it. I’d like to learn it now. 6. Who's your favorite historical figure? History I find boring. It never really interested me. Not a single historical figure is my favourite.

Absolutely! I appreciate you working with me to get a deal done. I am sad to see a personal friend in @ClapbombsRusgo but I am happy about the chance he’s about to get!
  15. Love this group! Congrats everyone. This is going to be an exciting time!!!
  16. Review: This is a cool graphic. I like the render you chose and it’s cutout nicely. Zooming him in would be a lot better and make him more of the focal point of the graphic. The placement of the logo on his jersey isn’t positioned correctly so I would spend a little more time making sure that’s aligned properly. I absolutely love the font choice and the colouring of the font. Overall it’s a cool graphic and I think if you spend a little more time on it I think it could have been amazing. Rating: 7/10
  17. Review: Very cool that you’re doing graphics. Graphics can be tricky but the more you do them the better you’ll get. The logo swap isn’t great. It’s sized too big and overlaps certain aspects of the player. Not sure what program you use but there are some awesome tutorials out there to help you learn. Letter choice is cool. Graphic is a little dark so don’t be afraid to play with the light levels. I recommend trying out a free program like photopea.com. It’s similar to photoshop but it’s free and I learned how to make decent graphics on there pretty easily. Rating: 5/10
  18. 1. Our first week or so of sims hasn't been remarkable, but it has brought us some wins, which is more than we've been used to lately. What are your first impressions for this season as a whole? So far so good! We are right in the mix in the European conference. We have played well as a team and I think we can carry this momentum throughout the season. 2. How do you feel about your individual production so far? So far I am thrilled. I want to see improvement every season and with the ample opportunity I am getting it’s really starting to pay off. 3. What's your best hot take for this season, unrelated to Davos? I have never been good for hot takes. Ummm let’s say Chicago misses the playoffs. I dunno haha 4. Have you been watching the Olympics? If so, what have you seen? I haven’t watched them very much. I did catch some skateboarding, surfing and that’s about it reallyz 5. What's an underrated YouTube channel you think everyone should know about? Not a big YouTube guy. So I couldn’t tell you. 6. What's the last thing you ate? The last thing I ate was 7 layer dip. It was actually more like 6 layer dip because we didn’t put olives on it.
