    Terrific article. Broke down every players strengths and weaknesses to the tee. Gave me a good feel on how good each player has been performing. 1100 words, enough said.

    It´s not going to cost you any money, I believe right now it´s pretty similar setup as VHL has. Can build a good player just fine without using any money. This article is just me talking about the ´bigger´ picture with few lines on the actual case.

    VinCal reacted to Ricer13 in Yukon Rush - Who has been the top forward?
    The Yukon Rush are loaded with talent this season up and down the lineup.  We already took some time a couple weeks ago to break down who have been the top defenseman and made a solid case for each of them. This week I am going to break down the forwards and make a case as to why each of them deserve the spot as Yukon's top forward. There are a lot of talented forwards this season so I am only going to choose the top 5 players I think have a real case of being the teams MVP.

    Ray Sheilds - Center
    @Zetterberg

          Lets start with the leading scorer for Rush forwards, Ray Sheilds. Ray is the number 1 centre on the Rush this season and has lead the way brilliantly. At the 41 game mark Sheilds has 70 points putting him right behind teammate Zyrok for scoring lead on the team. Ray has been one of the more consistent players on the Rush roster. There is rarely a game where he doesn't factor into the scoring somehow. He is top 8 in the league in shots, top 6 in the league in forward scoring and top 3 in the league in hits. So when he isn't scoring he becomes a factor by playing a physical style of play imposing his will on his opponents. While Ray makes a hell of an impact on the ice he is just as valuable off the ice. He is an active member in the locker room and helps his teammates learn different training regiments to earn that valuable TPE. Ray is a key piece of the Rush's success this season and deserves to be in the conversation for team MVP.

    Gino DiGiannontino - Right Wing
    @pennypenny

          Goals, goals and more goals! That is the simplest way to describe this next players style of play. Gino Digiannontino is a goal scoring machine this season. He currently leads the Yukon Rush with 30 goals. He has recorded 3 hat tricks this season and is one of the most clutch players in the VHLM recording 6 Game winners. This puts him in the top 5 in the league for game winning goals. Gino has struggled a bit with consistency this season but when he starts going on a streak he scores in bunches. To add to his impressive goal total he has also contributed 30 helpers which truly shows how balanced his style of play can be. He doesn't get too greedy and loves to spread the scoring around. Gino is the definition of a team player. Not only is he supporting his team on the ice he goes the extra mile off the ice to get his team pumped each game. He has even to the lengths of brushing his teammates teeth to keep them fresh. Gino has a solid case to be the teams MVP and I am excited to see him catch fire here down the stretch.

    Vin Calia - Center
    @VinCal

    Vin Calia is the 2nd line center for the Yukon Rush this season. Despite not getting top line minutes this hasn't slowed the production of Vin at all. He has been the most consistent forward for the Rush this season. It seems like nearly every game you will see Vin's name on the score sheet. He is currently 2nd in forwards on the rush in points. If Vin ends up playing another season in the VHLM then he will be the number 1 center next season for the Rush. With the ceiling Calia has he would absolutely tear of the M next season. The only knock I have on Vin this season is the play in his own end. He is currently a -3 and has taken 165 hits. This is an aspect of his game he will need to work on if he wants to take that next step in his development. Vin Calia absolutely deserves recognition as the teams MVP because of his production even with reduced minutes.

    Mickey Dickson - Right Winger
    @Brewins15

    Now, I want to talk about Mickey Dickson. Mickey slots in on the top line with Ray and Gino. She has been a mainstay on that line all season and that is for good reason. Mickey is probably the most balanced player on the Rush Roster. Mickey has 45 points in 41 games which shows a decent amount of production from the young forward. Mickey shines because of her two way game. She produces consistently on the scoreboard but shines even brighter on her own end of the ice. Mickey has a + 40 +/- rating which places her top 8 in the VHLM. Mickey is also very impressive on the penalty hill. She leads the VHLM in shorthanded goals scored with 3. Mickey also has a knack of finding the back of the net in key moments as she also has 6 game winning goals which slots her right beside Gino in the leaderboards for VHLM game winners. Mickey without a doubt deserves to be in the conversation for team MVP, not for her point production but because of her commitment to both sides of the game.

    Trey Nets - Center
    @KillaScrilla

    Lastly, I wanted to mention Trey Nets. Nets came over to the Rush last season via trade and was a big part of them sneaking into the playoffs. This season Trey hasn't had the same kind of impact. He had to step away from the game for some time due to personal reasons and this slowed his player growth. Once Trey made his return he has quickly made an impact being back with the team full time. He was playing on the 3rd line and quickly got bumped to the second line. Since being on the second line Trey has been on the scoresheet nearly every game and is proving once again that he has the potential to be a star in this league. Trey doesn't deserve the MVP because of his offensive play or his defensive play but deserves it because of dealing with adversity in life and still making his way back to the game.

    There are plenty more forwards on the Rush Roster that deserve some recognition. I will do a player breakdown of the remaining active members in a couple weeks. I will also be talking about the Yukon goaltender Nicolas Fomba and his part in the Rush's success this season. Thanks for taking the time to read this article. I would be interested to hear your choice for Yukon's MVP in the comments below.

                           Yukon lit the lamp first, by the hot hand of wing Gino DiGiannantonio his 17th assisted by Ray Sheilds. Late in the period, on an odd man rush, Yukon took a 2-0 lead on a goal who else, Gino DiGiannantonio, his 2nd goal of the game, from Captain Zyrok12 and Mickey Dickson at 19:42.
                            Ottawa got one back early in the second after Rush defenseman Bo Burrows was whistled for holding the stick penalty. Aamon Grim scored his 12th on a nice pass from Iangenere Risteneen. Yukon got the goal right back, his first of the season by Pietro Distefano, assisted by Zyrok12 and Trey Nets. Ottawa showed why they are the team to beat in the VHLM by scoring two goals, one minute apart to pull even at 3.  Adam Syreck scored his league leading 25th goal, assisted by Defenz Mann and Rich Dickbutt McFudderdudder at 8:47. Just 58 seconds later Iangenere Risteneen scored his 14rg from Izzy Velencia and Aamon Grim to tie things up.
                            The game stayed even till Yukon defenseman Alex Armstrong scored his 12th, on a nice pass from Vin Calia, on the power play to put Yukon ahead 4-3. Two minutes later, Yukon sealed it with another power play goal, this time from Ray Sheilds, assisted by Zyrok12 and Mickey Dickson at 18:14.
                            Nicholas Fomba was the winning goalie stopping 33 of 36 shots. Gino DiGiannantonio took home the player of the game honors. Yukon will leave for Mississauga in the morning.

                                  Yukon route Mississauga 7-4 for their 6th straight win, improving their record to 16-7-1 on the season.

                                       Rush wasted no time getting on the board early with a goal by Trey Nets assisted by Zyrock12 and Bo Borrows. It was Nets 5th of the season. Hounds even things up when Andrew Su scored his 21st, from John Blewitt. Yukon began the route with Ray Sheilds banging home a rebound, his 14th of the season, from Zyrok12 and Mickey Dickson. A minute later Vin Calia scored his 16th from Alex Armstrong to make it 3-1. They weren't threw yet as Gino DiGiannantonio opened the game up, with his 19th from Sheilds and 20th from Zyrok12 and Sheilds.
                                   With a 5-1 lead in the 2nd period, DiGiannantonio completed the hat trick with his team leading 21st from Dickson and who else, Ray Sheilds. DiGiannantonio has been on fire for the Rush during this win streak, scoring 8 goals in that time.
                                        Mississauga did their best to make a comeback with Su scoring his 2nd of the game from Joakim Sakic and  then Adil Mahmood, his 13th from Ryder Pyatt to cut the lead to 6-3. But 40 seconds later Ray Sheilds completed his 5 point performance with number 15 on the campaign, from Dickson and Armstrong. A late power play goal by Albert Stoner (3) to complete the scoring and a 7-4 thrashing.
                                        Game winning goalie Nick Fomba stopped 35 of the 39 shots. Gino DiGiannantonio, with his hat trick was named the  play of the game despite Sheilds' 5 point performance. Yukon returns home Monday night, and goes for 7 straight wins against the Saskatoon Wild who have dropped 6 straight.

    2. Not at all. Ray's not just good at making sig's, he can put the puck in the net occasionally too.
    3. Well I'm disappointed with my +/- rating. I think I need to get stronger.
    4. Could be a lot on guys minds with the virus and all. I think it'll pick up.
    5. Houston. They have their issues if they don't work on, they'll find themselves in a hole.
    6. They both do tremendous sigs. I love the back round effects such as the lightening bolts.

    VinCal reacted to Ricer13 in Yukon Rush - Who has been the top defenseman?
    The Yukon Rush have played 13 games so far this season. They currently hold a record of 7-5-1 putting them 6th in the VHLM standings. The team has been hot and cold to start the season as they try to build some chemistry with one another. The bright spot on this team so far has to be the defensive core they have put together. Three of Yukon's defensemen are in the top 4 for defensemen scoring in the VHLM but which defensemen has been the most valuable for their team so far in the early season. I will take a minute to breakdown the four candidates and let you decide whos been the most valuable defender for the Rush.

    Zyrok

    Zyrok started off slow but has recently jumped into a tie with Ray Sheilds for the points lead on the Rush roster. He is currently 2nd in defensemen scoring with 22 points in 13 games. In those 22 points he has 3 goals and a whopping 19 assists. He has clearly shown that he is a puck moving defensemen as he has been the key playmaker on this team so far this season. His defensive numbers are just as impressive as he currently has a +7 rating and 22 shots blocked. He strays away from the physical side of the game and that is okay but where he needs to improve is his shot. He has one of the lower shooting percentages on the team with a 9.68 % shooting percentage. If his play as of late is any indication of how Zyrok is going to play the rest of the season then the Yukon are in for a real treat.

    Alex Armstrong

    Alex Armstrong has been Zyroks partner all season long so far. The two have proven to be a force out their together on the ice. Armstrongs currently sitting at 19 points which is third on the Rush in points and third among defenseman scoring in the VHLM. He has 6 goals and 13 assists and an impressive shooting percentage of 13.33%. He isn't afraid to shoot the puck and has done so very efficiently this season. I would say his defensive play has been better than Zyroks as he currently sits at a +11 plus/minus and 17 blocked shots of his own. Alex has only gotten better as the season has progressed and with him and Zyrok playing together this has to be one of the top pairings in the VHLM.

    Bo Burrows

    Next up we have the GOAT - Bo Burrows, this player has also been a force for the Rush this season. He came out of the gates hot and has remained consistent so fair this season. He came out so hot that he was pushing to take a spot on the top line. Burrows sits only 1 points behind Armstrong and is 4th in defensemen scoring in the VHLM. He has 5 goals and 13 assists but has a higher shooting percentage than both Zyrok and Armstrong with at 14.29%. He isn't shy about playing the physical game either as he currently is second on the team with 45 hits behind only Ray Sheilds. Where Burrows needs work however is on the defensive end of the ice. He currently sits at a plus/minus of -7 which is tied for the worst among defensemen on the team. He isn't afraid however to put his body on the line as he has blocked 20 shots as well. I am excited about what Burrows is bringing to this team and he could very well push for a spot on the top line if he continues to progress this season. After all he is the GOAT.

    Joe Jacks

    Lastly I wanted to talk about Joe Jacks. He is an new up and comer in this league and probably hasn't been the best defensemen for the Rush but that is okay. He is only going to get better as the season rolls on but lets take a dive into his season thus far anyways. He only has 5 points in 13 games and all five points have been assists. He has a 0% shooting percentage and needs some work in his defensive zone as he is tied with Burrows at a -7 plus/minus rating. He is tied among the Rush defensemen with 20 blocked shots but does shy away from the physical play as he only has 14 hits so far this season. Playing along side Burrows is only going to make Jacks a better player and this defensive core is sure to show him the way to becoming an elite defender in another season for the Rush.

          Well there you have it, the Rush Defense have been spectacular so far this season. Its hard to say exactly which defender has been the Rush's MVP so far this season because they have all played so well.  Can either of them break away from the pack and become to the true number 1 defender on this team or will they all continue to push each other all season long and become one of the best defensive cores the VHLM has ever seen. I am interested to hear about who you think is currently the best Rush defensemen in the comments below!

          In a couple weeks I am going to break down the forwards and the season they have had at that point. I will highlight the success stories as well as the disappointments to that point in the season. There is a lot of good info to be unpacked there and I am hoping at that point some of our forwards have broken out of their shell and start contributing on a regular basis for the Rush. At some point  would also like to include an article about the Rush's starting goalie Nicolas Fomba as well and touch on the VHLM career he's had to this point and whether or not he can get the job done for the Yukon Rush this season. Thanks again for tuning in I hope this was and insightful read.

    1. Awesome first weeks. Team looks like we've been playing together for years.

    Yukon stormed into Minnesota last night and on 47 shots on goal performance, walked away with a 5-2 victory.  This is the second victory against the defending champs this season.
                                         Ray Sheilds got the Rush going in the first with his 5th of the season, assisted by no other then defenseman Zyrock12 and Mickey Dickson. Less then a minute later, Vin Calia, on the power play netted his 6th assisted by Gino DiGiannantonio to put Rush up 2-0.
    Minnesota got one back late in the first when Robin Winter scored his 10th from Cheezy and DeYeeto at 17:53.
                                        Period 2 started with a hooking penalty on Yukon's Jack John that put the Storm on a power play. After blocking a Storm shot,Joe Jacks fed the puck to Bo Burrows who led an odd man rush and set up Mickey Dickson for a shorthanded goal to give Yukon a 3-1 lead. a minute later with the Rush on a power play, Caption Zyrok12 scored assisted by  Digiannantonio and Alex Armstrong.
                                       Shane Weibel scored for Minnesota in the third but Sheilds put the nail in the coffin with his 2nd of the game and 6th of the year assisted by Armstrong and Dickson.
                                       Nick Fomba was again solid in the pipes stopping 34 of the 36 shots he faced while Wood McPine (Min) faced 47 shots by the Rush. Its very early in the season but the Yukon area is excited what was put together by @krice13 and @MexicanCow123 .

    VinCal got a reaction from Ricer13 in Rush Route Storm in Season Opener
    Yukon Rush got the season started with an impressive win against the defending VHLM Champions Minnesota Storm with a 5-1 victory in front of an empty arena, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
                            Yukon got off to the fast start when Trey Nets took a pretty pass from Ray Sheilds and beat the glove hand of Storm Goalie Woody McPine to give the Rush the lead just over 2 minutes into the game.
                            In the 2nd period the offense opened up with a goal by Gino DiGiannatonio, set up by fellow Italian American Vin Calia and Jack John. The Storm answered right back a minute later when Valtteri Vaakanainen netted his third of the season to cut the lead to 2-1. It didn't stop there when a minute later Vin Calia scored his 1st of the S71 campaign coming from beautiful passing by Nicholas Konig and Bo Burrows. Rush poured it on 60 seconds later with a Power Play goal by Calia, his 2nd goal of the game when he took a behind the back pass from Mickey Dickson who was fed by Burrows at the blue line. Ray Sheilds added another with his 1st , assisted by Nets and Joe Jacks.
                            Yukon went in defense mode after that and the goaltending of Nicholas Fomba who stopped 24 of 25 shots between the pipes. Vin Calia, who was named 1st star of the game said, "It was the start we wanted to get off and yes its one game, but it builds confidence. This is a great group of guys we have here. We already feel like a family and that's important with the grind of a long hockey season"
                             Lets hope this is the start of something good here in Yukon. Only time will tell.

    VinCal got a reaction from Zyrok in Interview with Assistant GM of Yukon, Kris Rice
    I’m here with Assistant GM of the Yukon Rush, Kris Rice. Thanks for a few moments Kris.      Kris : No problem, thank you so much for taking the time to interview me.       1. As the season nears, how do you feel about the team you guys put together?    I feel really good about what we have put together here. @mexicancow123 Did a lot of work in the last few months to put us in a place to succeed.   There was a lot of movement in and out of Yukon last season but it was all for the better as we were able to stock up on valuable draft picks and     bring back a lot of fan favourites to the team. The draft went extremely well as we were able to hit most of our targeted players. We wanted to build  a team that was more so built for the enjoyment of the players rather than making it just about winning a championship. We wanted to bring back players who really wanted to be here because of how much they enjoyed it here in the short time they were with us last season. To me that feels really good and that is almost as good a feeling as winning a championship.    2. How confident are you feeling about this being a playoff team?   I have zero doubt that this team is going to make the playoffs. We squeaked in last season with a rather poor roster and the team we have put together this season has a real chance to compete for a title. There are some juggernauts standing in our way such as Minnesota who is looking to repeat, Las Vegas who had an incredible draft and there are of course a few other teams who will be right in the mix as well. I have no doubt though that our team will be up for the task when the time comes.     3. Strengths , Weaknesses?   There are quite a few strengths to our team this season. Our center depth with the likes of Ray Shields, Vin Calia and Trey Nets is one of the deepest in the league. Our defense is stacked with the number 2 overall pick Zyrok12, Bo Burrows and recently acquired free agent Alex Armstrong the Rush’s D-core is going to tear it up this season. This is the deepest team Yukon has had in quite a few seasons and if everyone continues to progress and train hard throughout the season this team could really make a push to go all the way.   The only weakness that this team has right now is cohesiveness. There are a lot of strong personalities on the roster this season and when you have many of those personalities in the same room they tend to clash. I think as the season rolls on and they start creating chemistry then this issue will resolve itself.
                    4. What are you telling the guys in regards to the Corona Virus?

                     Do not panic. This Pandemic is not something to take lightly but there is no reason to panic as of yet. The VHLM season will continue as                    planned but precautions will be taken if required. For right now, limiting your time in public, washing your hands and just being aware of                   the day to day changes is all anyone can really do at this point

                    5. Has this Pandemic disrupted the teams preparation for the season?

                    Unlike the NHL the VHL/M will continue as planned. Everyone is almost putting in more time now preparing their players as they have                         been stuck home more so than they normally would be. It's a blessing and a curse but hopefully in the near future this will all be behind us                and we can get on with our normal lives.

                  Thanks again Kris and Good Luck to you and the Rush in the upcoming season.

                   Thank you Vin, I am excited for the season ahead and you are a big part of that.
