Fwiw, it should be renamed to "pick 'em" since it's not really fantasy, you're not selecting players. If you're just picking teams to win matchups and guessing the score, then I think the name should be "Pick 'Em & Guess the Score" or something, idk. I think "Fantasy" is the overarching title we give these meta games within a fake league lol. I think the better question here is why should they all be lumped together? Mashing them together doesn't make people invested in other leagues - allowing everyone to participate in M/E Pick 'Em instead of limiting it to people in that specific league makes people pay attention to those other leagues. Another question would be if mashing them together is a step towards reducing uncapped TPE opportunities. I believe a user with a player in the M could earn a total of 8 uncapped TPE a week from VHL/M Pick 'Em before the change, and VHL players could only get 3. Combining them in the recent change has dropped the max payout to 5, so we've lost 3 TPE. I get that the league wants to reduced uncapped TPE, but in my opinion, moves like these 1. reduce the differentiation between max earners' TPE and 2. point more people in the direction of paying money (donations) for uncapped TPE. Personally, I'm not a fan of either of these, as I think having games that pay out uncapped TPE makes people more interested in those games, and therefore what's going on in all the leagues. As I've suggested before, if the perception is that too many people are getting uncapped TPE in these weekly games, increase the difficulty of those games. Instead of just having to predict 3 games, make it 5 games. Or if you want to make it proportionate to how people win, remove it as a weekly payout and make it a seasonal payout, and adjust the payout based on brackets of correct answers. TLDR: Overall, I think splitting them up gives more individuality to each league, but if you want people to engage with them, simply let everyone participate in them. If uncapped TPE inflation is the problem, increase the difficulty of the pick 'ems or make it a end of season payout and curve payouts based on right answers. DFS probably. I think Berocka had talked about using a certain amount of "money" to buy players to make VHFL rosters instead of drafting them, and someone else mentioned the EFL conducts fantasy the same way. Giving you a budget and assigning values to players. If organized properly, it's not difficult to calculate the change in stats of players week to week, so a weekly "create the best team" could be fun. Give 3-2-1 uncapped TPE to the top 3 users each week, so you're not over-inflating uncapped TPE. Ya it's fantasy hockey and it's literally free uncapped TPE for participating. The draft system honestly works pretty well, when group managers enforce pick time. Maybe the threat of not receiving the extra 1 uncapped of GM pay would help solve the issue of some poor group managers. And you already know my thoughts about why scoring isn't working. The SHL follows a very similar path as ours, with a draft format. The EFL uses a DFS style. Frankly, I don't think either of their processes are better than ours. The VHFL sheet is pretty simple to use and updates data daily. Maybe the only massive change we could make is putting VHFL calculation on the portal and set it up so anyone can view their group anytime, and then payouts are automatic. But it's a luxury thing to have, when what we have works fine. Eventually I'll get around to writing a media spot about my proposed scoring changes, but that won't be today lol.

From Thessaloniki to Halifax Every sports fan in Thessaloniki, Greece knows the name Nikos Galis. Hell, nearly every basketball fan in Europe knows his name. To a young Nico Pearce, Galis and Aris Thessaloniki, the club Galis played for, became a source of inspiration. While Nico was too young to have ever watch Galis play live with the superstar retiring in 1994, 5 years before Nico was born, his father's tapes were chock full of Galis' games. From the ripe age of 5, all Nico knew was being a Thessaloniki fan, and a basketball fan to boot. Naturally, from that time, Nico's father Lander made sure a basketball was in his hands, in a father's bold dream of having a sports superstar of a child. Lander took Nico to a local park multiple times a week, just to make sure that they got plenty of practice in each week - all Nico knew as a child and into his teenage years were basketball and school. While Nico could play well, he lacked a core factor essentially guaranteed to be a successful basketball player - height. By 9th grade, Nico was still only 5'8, and he had no shot of making his high school's team. In a fortunate visit to Galis Hall, the home of Aris BC, Nico stumbled upon a poster for the Thessaloniki Titans, an up and coming hockey club that had won the tournament in 2011, just 2 years earlier. As a newer program without substantial attention, Nico was able to easily land a spot in the Titans youth program. Hockey was fortunately a spot where his trained athleticism and slight stature would be an advantage, and he quickly took to skating and learning the tools of the sport. However, the program eventually shut down again due to lack of funding, and Nico was still too undersized as a 5'10 12th grader to continue his pursuit for basketball. Luckily, he was accepted to St. Cloud State in Minnesota to continue his hockey career. Not only did his game develop there in all aspects, but he even grew a bit more, to a more respectable 6'0. His hands and agility were already there, almost a necessity due to his slight stature, but with his recent growth into his body, his physicality has begun to pick up as well. In his final year with St. Cloud, Halifax GM Sam @Brewins15 reached out to Nico, with an offer to play for the 21st for the rest of the S79 VHLM season. Once the St. Cloud academic year ended, Nico flew out to Halifax where he met with longtime friend Zaza Colors @McWolf , who had also agreed to join the team. It'll be a very exciting time for Nico as he pursues his career in the VHL!

I'm replying very late to this so I doubt that anything I say will be novel. 1. More recognition for content created on site. Say 1 uncapped TPE for a PT that was considered the "best" that week. Updaters get eyes on all PT's, so some sort of voting system by them might work, and it'd get general members more intrigued to complete PT's and potentially get the recognition. 2. Get rid of trivia. It's not a thought provoking mPT for 99% of the league. There are like 3-4 people who actually do it every week and then the rest of the league passes those answers around. People can still do reviews for the other 2 tpe, but then we could add a Twitter option, where 3 tweets in a week equate to 2 TPE if they mention the VHL. Get more engaged on social media as other leagues do, and we could potentially expand our growth in a new area. 3. Add one or two more games/fantasy options, like a weekly fantasy lineup. Users can draft a weekly lineup of 3 F, 2 D, 1 G *on the forums, no google forms*, and the top 3 could get some uncapped TPE. Overall, I've probably suggested too much uncapped TPE. But, if we can slightly lower the amount given out by our existing games, maybe we can avoid inflating beyond what we deem necessary.

@Ryan Li you got 1 tpe for asking a question. Claim it as "Claim Uncapped -> Fantasy -> Trivia Question" for 1 TPE, link to the very first post in this thread.

Hello football fans and folks brave enough to venture into the NFL subforum! As avid handegg fans likely know, the 2021-2022 NFL season is starting up in a few weeks, which means that the time is ripe to gauge interest on a VHL fantasy football league! I thought it'd be fun to have another year of a VHL league, so if you're interested in being part of a fantasy league, fill out the form below. Also - please keep in mind that this will be a more serious league. Fantasy football is only fun if everyone participates throughout the season. If you are a "draft and dip" type of manager, this league probably isn't for you, as I'll likely replace you unless you're still active in the Discord server, which you can join here. INTEREST FORM DM me on forums or on Discord (uɐʇɹɐdS#3393) if you have questions.

I chat about VHL awards that I/Letang have earned over the past few years. Then I talk about three awards that have a decent amount of controversy around them (Boulet, Wylde, Elmebeck) Then I realize I have no gas left in my car as I speed down the highway! Find out how it all ends. There are mild audio issues in there, idk how it happened. Suck it up, I'm claiming this for 2 weeks.

I'd like to apply! I got my GM'ing start in the WJC of S71 and have AGM'd for new folks multiple times after that. Would be nice to take a larger role in the tournament!

1. Usually just getting in practice, it's the best way to try and work yourself out of bad habits. Otherwise just try and find something to help you relax. I get superstitious sometimes, if I have a stretch of poor play at a certain attribute level combination. I'm just overthinking it most of the time. 2. Well, a lot of my predictions are going to be wrong. I think I'll get the Wylde right since I predicted Letang there, but picked Hylands for all the other defense awards. Also picked Dear and Xin for most of the forward awards, those are likely lost as well. 3. We have a great offense, superb goaltending and a defense that has been playing very well. If we keep playing the way we've been, I think we'll fare well. 4. Sliding on the ice like a penguin. It was my favorite thing to do in youth hockey camp. 5. Wake up as late as I can without being late to the rink, snack on some trail mix, throw back a Captain Morgan and Coke for the nerves and just make sure all the equipment is good to go. 6. Ice up whatever needs to be iced, then sleep.

This is a fair point, that everyone is experiencing the same "issue." However, I found this case more interesting because it overall devalues defensemen when it comes to making fantasy selections. You'd be fine with D20, since the gap from D1 to D20 isn't that large. Both players will still be in the top 30 of overall skaters. However, the difference between F1 and F20 is significantly large, from top 30 to maybe top 50. Defensemen simply are too easy to coast on, there isn't really much of a skill component to selecting them. You pick defensemen on bad teams who will get shot blocks, and defensemen on high scoring teams who will get fantasy points from scoring. But picking the top 2 defensemen on the bottom 12 teams in the league is much more prevalent in VHFL strategy, in my opinion. So this is straying away from what I've written so far, but I do plan on looking at goalies as well to create a bit more of a disparity as you had mentioned, to try and make the gap from G1 to G12 a bit wider. This is the current state of goalies, a 12 point gap from G1 to G10. If you pick literally any of these, your goalie position won't be the reason you lose. Unless you're one of the rare unlucky folks who lose out on a position by <5 points. RIP to those fine folks. But yeah, making this gap wider is something I'd like to think about. This is probably going to be the major argument against making any changes to VHFL - it's just something for fun, doesn't need to be a super overthought process. It's mainly out of my own impulse that I decided to look into why VHFL felt too cookie-cutter, and I found what I presented in the article. However, STHS still favors the best players on bad teams just from a points standpoint. They'll still be very viable, I also don't want to eliminate those players from viability. I just don't want those players on average/bad teams to be dominating VHFL, and some more variability would be really nice. I think my issue with this is also that your 2nd and 3rd forward combined may not score as much as one of your defensemen. If you have 2 top 10/15 forwards, an average goalie and any defensemen who doesn't fall out of the top 30 for overall skaters, you will land at least 3rd, likely 1st or 2nd with those forwards. The strategy is mostly clear, as a few others have pointed out -> you prioritize selecting the best possible forwards and leave defense for later since you're more likely to get a defensemen in the top 30 of skaters in the 4th or 5th round than you are to get a forward in that same top 30. In my perfect world, picking defensemen and goalies in the 1st round would be viable and encouraged. Users must try to figure out who would truly be the best player for their team, and no position is easier to pick between. As you mentioned, emphasizing and maximizing the disparity within position groups is key, and to do that, I think not only do we need to reduce the impact of Shots Blocked to reduce defensemen point inflation, but also increase the value of multiple other scoring stats to widen the gap between players of the same position. Making goals and assists more valuable, from 2 and 1 to 3 and 1.5. Rewarding hits more. Making shutouts significantly more valuable. Punishing for goals against.

Best Team Week 3: DC Dragons Vs. LA Stars
Spartan replied to Horvat98's topic in Archived Media Spots
Easy there snips, you're only 3 points ahead of Vancouver and 4 points ahead of Toronto who are literally all bots. Those OT/SO losses are keeping you afloat, better focus on winning some games with that "best d-pairing in the league" -
