Learning to skate and play hockey has always been Riley's favorite memories in a small town of Manitoba. Growing up he was always around hockey whether it was going to his brother's hockey games or watching it on the television with his parents. When he finally reached the age where he could suit up and play hockey with childhood friends it was the best feeling being able to follow his dreams in being able to play for the VHL and as he continued to play hockey as he grew he only came to love the competitive nature of the game, competing against the towns around him and against his own team mates to be better then them. Defense wasn't always his favorite position to play but as he played with the team he was able to realize it was the role he was most effective in, to be able to help his team get wins but to have an effect on helping his goalie block shots and the forwards be able to get the puck and goals. Bantom is where he really shined as a player in which his skill defensively won his team many games and his ability to play the puck in the offensive zone helped his team score winning goals or starting the comeback. Riley really shown he could play with bigger players being a smaller player himself, he wasn't scared of playing the puck in corners or going for scrums along the boards for his team, he as able read the play on ice to get his team an advantage which really powered his PP time. A lot of his strengths are also a weakness as he's always ready to use the body which leads to penalties, stick-checking far too often and slows himself down, passing when he should for the shot. College hockey is where he really shown as a top tier player leading his the league in assists and his team in ice time at 24 minutes 3/4 of the games played, the team loved having him as he was always there to stick up for them and trying to create momentum even at the cost of his own discipline which lead to being leader in penalty minutes. As the game got faster he trained harder to not fall behind the opposing team or in his own team, motivated to be the best player and team mate on and off the ice, always looking to improve and be a better player. Being late to the VHLM entry draft he got a offer from the Houston Bulls who looked to be a rebuilding team he almost immediately accepted the offer, surrounding himself with a team that would work hard as individuals and as a team, and a staff that worked hard for them to become better in the weaknesses to improve there game an win. Riley Is a hard worker who wants to be the best in his position whether it be offensive or defense, he works harder to improve at his weaknesses and get smarter about the game to help the team get wins, to prove that he can play in the big leagues and be an important member to the team and to know he's playing to the best of his abilities.
