@Devise had the general idea in his head, I put together the initial design (which is more or less that it looks like), and @Will made it come to life.

They range anywhere from quite heavy (rats, mummy dust, etc) to the self described “ABBA of heavy metal” (kiss the go goat, Mary in a Cross, etc) to borderline Christian rock until you understand what they are actually singing about (Bible, He Is, etc). It’s great stuff.

Papa is the frontman for the Swedish heavy metal band Ghost Technically Papa Emeritus IV is the current frontman, having taken the mantle from Papa Nihil who had his three sons, the original three Papa’s, killed. Ghost has complex lore and no one actually knows the identities of the members outside of Papa (the others are known as the nameless ghouls) but the music and stage presence are both great.

@GustavMattias is definitely right on the bust front. As it standard Sharpe is a bust mostly for going before Scotty and having the lowest TPE ever for a first overall (on account of the suspension mostly) but it would have been even worse if I had up and left the site 2 weeks after the draft. In any case you did get the facts mostly right, hit the link points at least. The punishment was originally going to be much lower actually but everyone kinda piled on (legs just say we weren’t the kindest site back in the day) so Brooks decided to make an example of me. As for what would have happened, I’m not egotistical enough to think the site would have died without me. It certainly would have gotten on more or less the same for at least 10 years. I’d like to think I’ve evoked a lot of change in the 3.5 years I’ve been blue and I did help save the place but if it wasn’t me it would have been someone else I’m sure.

Trust me, you don’t want to see that.

Congrats @ROOKIE745! With me retiring tomorrow you officially take the S70 TPE crown. Not a meaningful achievement but still a fun one, was nice battling with you.

Second straight time stomping Warsaw and we take over third place even with Prague having 3 games more than us (even in a double sim we only had 2 games, fuck this schedule haha). You love to see it.

Apparently the conferences were also dissolved? With both teams being EU there would be no way for them to meet in the finals. Although I suppose this is alternate so maybe we have crossover in this universe. Also I miss Stockholm and Cologne

Mainly just one big one: risk of contraction. You, like many of the current members, didn’t have to deal with contraction or really any low point in the VHL’s history. You’ve only known the ups, the good parts, the parts where teams are full and recruitment is rocking and everyone and their grandmother wants a GM spot. Imagine for a moment that slows down. Imagine draft classes with only a handful of active players because recruitment has dried up. Imagine morale being so low that people have to be begged to take on GM spots and generally have to hold them long pst when they’d like to quit because the league is no options. This is not all hypothetical, it was the very real reality of the league in 2017, at the end of which we had to make the horrible decision to remove teams from the league. Contraction is messy, the PR of it is worse. You’re not only removing teams that may be beloved but admitting that the league is in such a bad state that it can’t support itself anymore. That is the risk we have to weigh every time we discussion expansion: is it sustainable. Each franchise is, on average, 11+ roster spots which not only means more people but also means bigger drafts which means more people needing to be brought in constantly to keep up. Sustainability at the levels we have been at for the past few years is a legitimate fear. I had to be part of the contraction discussion once and I do not wish to do it again. This is why it’s easy for members to shout for expansion every time the league gets moderately full but it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s always the best option. Consider that to have a single round of draft picks now is the same amount of people as 2 rounds 3 years ago. Twice the amount of members required to keep the league functional purely from adding teams. Eventually that is not sustainable, recruitment can’t keep up the pace. So yeah, that’s my long rant about the matter and the basics behind why it’s not something we ever take lightly. The BOG isn’t trying to just ruin everyone’s fun, we’re trying to make sure we don’t have to blow up all that fun within a year. There is also the far more minor issue of too many teams being just generally overwhelming and impossible to keep track of. Personally I can’t keep track of all the SBA teams for example, there are too many. That’s far less of a concern than sustainability kind you but it’s not nothing.

Day 26!

2 good wins, 4 points for Lahtinen, and only 1 point back of third in the conference (with a game in hand); nice sim.

In the intervening 3 years we have mostly learned that passing should stay a good bit behind scoring in most cases and, more importantly, Defense is SUPER important, even for a forward.
