Clubs are how we handle the forum locker rooms yes, at least for the teams that haven’t completely killed them. However as you said in the edit, the clubs feature and the group mention are two completely different things. We can’t have the teams be taggable without adding each of the 28 teams as a group and manually adding each user to the team in which they belong.

“Easily” is a bit of an odd term for it though when it’s a feature that physically doesn’t exist. We didn’t create the forum base and it’s features, we just work with what we have. So it may sound like an easy thing but what you describe isn’t something that physically exists. The group mention feature is quite limited. Not only does it only work with groups (which need to be manually set per user in the admin CP) but there’s no way to “unsubscribe” without someone going in and removing you from said group. Ultimately it’s a feature that has been requested many times and I understand the want but it’s not worth the ridiculous amount of manual labour required. Groups are actually how locker rooms used to be handled and it was a nightmare to manually change over everyone, let alone with 3 times the amount of teams and members we used to have. The theory may be solid but in practice it’s not worth the work.

Welcome to the VHL, huxtepuh! We're happy to have you. You should have received a PM with some more detailed information, but to get started quickly you will want to head over to the "How to Create a Player" topic. That topic will offer you detailed information about how to use the VHL Portal to create your player and get you started. We also highly recommend joining the VHL Discord where there is a channel dedicated to helping new members with any questions that they may have about the league or improving their player. Once your player is made VHLM General Managers will be in touch with you about joining their teams. In the meantime, please feel free to ask any questions you have here or in your create-a-player thread. We're happy to have you in the community and we hope you stick around!

Meanwhile my office loses power over a slight breeze (never for long but enough to be annoying) and my home isn’t much better. My record was 15 restarts in an hour (power would flash, stay on long enough to get the computer back up and avid open again then flash again) at the office once. Probably would have been more but we gave up restarting them after 15 and all just went home.
-
It wasn’t bad actually, all rain here but annoyingly that turned into thunderstorms at one point which knocked our power out for a bit. I was stuck at the office at the time and it’s back on at home now but in the “reasonable timeframe in which I could sim” I was pretty much dead in the water.

Preoccupied and without power haha

If only Simon would implement it!

My argument will always be that ROW over wins basically makes it so that 2 OTL's means more than a SO win. You can argue SO is a broken system or whatever but at the end of the day I don't like having losses count for more than wins. Just look at Prague and Helsinki last season. Prague had 3 wins more but were under Helsinki in the standings; that doesn't seem fair.

Yeah I'm stealing @Quik's naming scheme for this. Just a super small and quick announcement today (mostly of concern for the @VHL GM's and @VHLM GM's) that over the off-season the @BOG took a vote to formalize our tiebreaker rules. Historically they were almost never used so they were never really formalized but with so many teams between the VHLM and VHL it's becoming increasingly common to have two teams with the same amount of points. The decision came down mostly to whether we followed the NHL's regulations or if we followed our own former precedent. So, to make it official (and the portal now reflects this) moving forward the order of importance for standings is: Points > Wins > ROW > Goal Differential. If somehow two teams end up tied on all of that (I would be stunned) then we'll have to figure out some extra layer but for not at least we have that finalized.

Can we have a constructive conversation about the BoG?

That would be an impressive level of planning. I can’t even get @Will to travel 2 hours to come get a beer with me. -

Not as much as you might think that would require an update. As we have mentioned before there’s a large discussion going on in regards to potential roster room issues but we aren’t ready to discuss our actual plan for that yet. Outside of that there was a small discussion about tiebreakers but that’s about it. End of the season is when we get into HoF and award discussion and voting so that takes up a lot of time and effort. As @GustavMattias alluded to there isn’t as much going on in the BOG as people like to think. Not having weekly updates doesn’t necessarily mean a lack of transparency, it could easily just mean a lack of things worth updating. Ultimately the issue with transparency (and I don’t mean I want none, just that it can’t be an open window) is three-fold. First, that if everyone in the league is involved in every decision nothing will ever get done because there are too many opinions. So if we give every bit of information out on paper it’s great, everyone gets to be involved, but in practice it’s a nightmare of too many cooks in the kitchen. For example, just in the “limited” group of the BOG the Miami expansion had a 9 page discussion, at least 4 pages of which were just arguing over the logo because everyone has different opinions on what is too detailed or too “e-sports” or whatever. 9 pages for a single team; and that’s not about the expansion draft or rules or anything else, those were basically already set in stone. That was just the location, name, and logo amongst like a dozen people. Take that discussion and add 200 more opinions, it all becomes noise. Now take that noise and apply it to a more major discussion and you see the problem of too many voices being involved. Second, the league can maintain absolutely no surprises. For some this may be a bonus but let’s be honest, people on the whole like hyped up announcements a big surprises and shakeups. You get none of that if everything that’s open for discussion is laid out on the table. Trust me, I used to get much more hyped for big changes when I didn’t know it was coming than I do being the one to announce it. Third, and Gus kinda touched on this, there is a certain degree baseline level of anger, be it trolling or otherwise, aimed at the BOG from the moment someone is added. Doesn’t matter that their behaviour and opinions don’t change, as soon as they get in they get a target in their back because some members like to think of the BOG as some kind of secret club that only the elite get into. How is this a problem with transparency? Quite simply that too much transparency means risk of this baseline anger being directed at a specific member for holding a specific opinion. Get that enough and your will to have an opinion, or at least voice it, diminishes. I’m not trying to be argumentative here and I know Gus and @Devise aren’t either but there is definitely a certain level of “transparency” being a moving target in the league. People demand it, we make changes, and then still get screamed at that it isn’t enough. I get if people are frustrated but it’s good to remember that the frustration goes both ways. On the whole the BOG are just active members taking time out of their day to try and better the league (with no pay for it I might add) so it tends to come off harsh when the finger gets pointed at them for not doing enough. -

Only 1 point but two wins to start the season so no real reason to complain.

Going live momentarily for the first sim of the season. Come watch me press buttons.

INDEX @VHLM GM As with the last few seasons, GM's are no longer required to email in their lines to submit them. To send in your lines please use the Team Management section of the portal. The process for downloading the client file and using STHS to make your lines is still the same, and if you have manual requests due to waiver pick ups or other roster changes please PM me your notes. For this first set if there any any issues in your rosters please let me know as soon as possible so I can correct them before the first sim on Monday. Also like the last few seasons the farm system is on since it needs to be on all season or not at all. While the Junior system is not in use games will still be simmed (they are done at the same time) but they won't be posted. If we click Juniors over to being active we'll get games posted for it as well. You guys will be in charge of your junior lines as well as your pro lines when the time comes to turn it on so make sure you remember that. An extra note this season as well, as per the announcement here sims will be live for both leagues moving forward. I cannot promise you a specific time for these and, likelywise, I can't promise you they will be very entertaining; in fact I can almost guarantee that they won't be. However in an effort to be more transparent with our simming you will all be able to watch me click buttons in all it's glory. I will do my best to put a message in here and on discord whenever I go live but may forget some days. In any case the live sims will always be in the same place which is embedded below. Man, these index posts are getting longer and longer. Anyway, good luck to everyone this season and let's have another good one!
