  1. I’ve been trying to figure that out with the VHLM expansion teams. They show in the division standings so obviously they are in the same conference but the conference standings don’t show the new teams. It’s weird.

  6. More copies = more room for error. Unlikely to be a problem but I prefer to eliminate room for error. My main concern is mentioned elsewhere in the thread, you can find it. It’s still unlikely but I don’t love the potential. Yeah, we probably can.

I can talk with the BOG about it but it’s mostly potential risks I’ve mentioned elsewhere in this thread and the possibility of a wrong sim file being used by accident causing re-sims to be required. It’s not that GM’s directly can cause problems, just that we’re defensive of the file. Honestly we’ve never seen test sims as being accurate enough to be worth the effort.
  8. Doing it and doing it without the league file aren’t the same thing. The SHL gives out the league file apparently, we don’t.
  9. I can’t say I’m happy about you bypassing me saying you arent allow to have it and creating it yourself. However if you want to take that much effort for the sake of tests that won’t really be accurate anyway be my guest. Does the index list the sliders though? I don’t recall that.

Taking screenshots of all the sliders would theoretically be possible though there's no way to show what sliders were used in any given sim so even if we had the screenshots there's no way to prove nothing was messed with. So not really a lot of transparency being offered from your suggestion unfortunately. Honestly I do miss the old FA threads though they did get a little messy and distracting. The VHLM system isn't even supposed to be on the forum, it was never designed to be, the GM's just wanted to be tagged easier. It would be possible to create some kind of system like that probably for the sake of discussion mind you if we wanted to. Just sorta like a topic made for every active FA where things can happen maybe.

  16. The file isn’t connected to the server directly, we upload after. But if someone was determined to attack the server the file would be a useful sword.

  18. No risk because I’m not trying to do anything to the league. Also the WC is a completely different file with different information. We can argue in circles all day but ultimately the file isn’t going to be given so there’s no point. I’ve offered to test things for GM’s if they’d like me to, I also am simming pre-season which is never done for the VHLM. This is being far more generous than I need to be and taking more of my time than it needs to. I’m not going to release the file.
  19. You are clearly misunderstanding. No, I'm not concerned we could be hacked through the league file, that is definitely impossible. The ability for our server to be messed with is completely separate. However without any access to our league files the worst that could be done is delete things which we have backups of, at least the really old stuff. With our league file every output we do could be messed with and then put into our backups completely changing our ability to have correct sims. I'm not calling it likely, I'm calling it possible. For the sake of having 1 GM with an advantage over the others I don't think that's remotely worth the risk, no matter how small it is. I work with sensitive material every day, I'm very conscious of not leaking anything or messing with backup procedure. I don't see a reason this should be any different. There's no benefit aside from unreliable tests and as unlikely as the negative is it's still possible.

  21. It's not a matter of saving over the file I'm concerned about. I have a copy of that, Dropbox has a copy of that, and the other simmers have a Copy of that. It's overwriting and changing our actually output files on the server. Also, even if we could make the file read only it would then become useless since GM's wouldn't be able to change any of their lines in the file. But there's no way to lock the file to only unlicensed versions. Licensing is easy. If you read my post you'd understand my concern isn't about the file itself, it's about what it can be done with it after the fact. They may be mostly unfounded but I'd rather reduce our potential risks rather than create them.
  22. Some GM Emails are in there though that's easy enough to remove and not my main concern. My main concern would be the potential to completely alter our sim results. All the results STHS outputs are uploaded to a server and then displayed here via the portal. There's a couple of points of entry there for people to get in and mess with the files. It would be extreme but so was DDOSing our site which has happened. We've burned bridges before. Anyway, I digress. Without the league file hacking into our server wouldn't get you much but the ability to delete things; we have backups to safeguard against that. However those backups don't run constantly. With the file someone could completely change the outcome of every game and every season being uploaded. They could completely mess with player stats and attributes and alter how the game is played or mess with the sliders and alter how the engine behaves. Is any of this likely? No. However it's a possibility. As @eaglesfan036 pointed out it's just too many hands in the pot; even ignoring the chance that the file gets corrupt at some point in the process which could easily happen. In a 72 game season with constantly changing lines and rosters I would say there is plenty of time to adjust lines and strategies (as there always has been) without the need to run test sims that ultimately account for nothing. If that is the only reason anyone would need the file it doesn't seem sufficient enough for me when ultimately there are much bigger things at risk, even if they are minor chances. If GM's really feel the need to test things before the season starts they can send me a few test lines and some opponents they'd like to test against and I'll run some tests for them if they ask nicely. I honestly don't think it'll tell them much but I'm not comfortable giving the league file away, it's simply too important. Too late, already read it.
