Wow. What a way to end the season. With a 15-6-2 record, Jesse Teno and the London United are VHL Champions for the first time in team history. This team broke every London playoff record, though that seems easy since London had never won a playoff series until now. Against all odds they not only won, but did so with a dramatic flair that had fans and players on the edge of their seats. It’s amazing that only last season London hadn’t even made it to the wildcard round and now here they are, under the genius direction of Jacob hoisting the Continental Cup.
With such an incredible run, let’s see what it took each game in the finals for London to get to where they are today.

    Game 1: 3-2 London

Trading minimal shots during regulation, both teams managed 2 goals each, Seattle in the 2nd period and London in the 3rd. Going into overtime, Ivan Retoslav became the hero of the game scoring the game winning goal with 3:54 remaining.

    Teno - 0.935

    Game 2: 1-3 Seattle

During the first period, Jesse Teno allowed 2 goals on only 4 shots and let in a 3rd during the second period. London only managed 1 goal in the second which was also the only period in this game where they managed to make as many shots as Seattle.

    Teno - 0.912

    Game 3: 2-1 Seattle

London managed to prevent Seattle from scoring in the 1st or 2nd period but were unable to prevent 2 goals on the 16 shots in the third.

    Teno - 0.963

    Game 4: 3-2 Seattle

London had a high 21 shots in the first period and Siyan Yasilievich grabbed a goal but the team seemed to lose steam when Seattle throttled them with 18 shots to London’s 7, managing 2 goals. Shots in the end were almost even but Seattle was hard to keep out of the net.

    Teno - 0.925

    Game 5: 5-2 London

Despite a 50 shot night for Seattle, Teno was able to hold down the fort, allowing London to have 5 different players score the 5 goals. A hard push brought London back from the brink of elimination.

    Teno - 0.960

    Game 6: 2-3 London

79-63 shots in favor of Seattle, triple overtime, and a low-scoring game. Both goalies had an incredible night but it was Jesse Teno who was able to hold out the longest as Sock Monkey put away the game winning goal at 0:36!

    Teno - 0.975

    Game 7: 2-0 London

A shutout to end it all. For the win. For the cup. Teno stopped 24 shots as Yasilievich and Igor Molotov scored the opener and the winning goals respectively.

    Teno - 1.000

A truly amazing showing by both teams as Seattle managed to bring London to a chance of elimination with the last 3 games. But the heart and hard work from the United could not be stopped this time. An incredible team, top notch leadership, and a backstop to end all backstops.

    Booberried

Xavier Booberry had kind of a weird career, honestly. A lot of stops, starts and unfinished business. He was picked first overall by a barren Helsinki team, but one that had a lot of high picks and was really building something for my first four seasons. There was hope and a second place EU finish... then Rayz disappeared at the worst possible time and the team fell apart. So it was on to Davos, which had its own bright future with a lot of young talent. There was playoff success and a finals appearance in S87 to build on... then Booberry was kicked to the curb as a cap casualty with one season left. So it was on to Seattle for the final season. And it was a good season, even with losing in the finals... but of course there's no opportunity to get revenge next season.

It's easy to call Booberry's story one of unfulfillment. And my knee-jerk reaction can be a bit of disappointment by how it all went down. But then, I look again at what my initial plan was for Booberry and how I stacked up.

And I realize - perhaps a bit conceitedly - that I've had the titles and awards before. What I wanted with Booberry was new experiences, and those experiences I've had in spades.

First, I wanted to stress test what at the time was the brand new nine season careers. I think I managed that quite well: 2102 TPE as of this writing, and I'd venture to guess that Booberry's 1427 TPA to end the season is as well. Even if Spartan/whoever passes me, I'm not concerned - I wanted to see what could happen with a nine season career and insane TPE totals, and in damn near getting 99's across the board in the important attributes, I accomplished that quite well.

Second, I had been pushing for the return of Vasteras since the team went away in the early '40s. I also wanted to prove myself in the league that I hadn't done anything in (because it had never existed): the VHLE. To not only be drafted to Vasteras, but to win the title in the inaugural VHLE season, very sincerely does mean more to me than a VHL title would have. It's unique and a cool story, and I'm happy I got to experience it.

So in the end, I consider Booberry's story a successful one. There were ups and downs, to be certain, but what I really wanted out of Booberry's experience was something different from my past VHL players. And I certainly accomplished that, both the good and the bad. Thanks to all who made the experience what it was.

With that in mind, there isn't too much more I think I want out of the VHL. Really, there's only one thing I can foresee right now. For someone around in the early days of sim leagues, where making it three seasons was an accomplishment to be lauded, seeing the VHL go 100 seasons and inching close to 20 real life years would be insane. So, I won't be around for a few seasons, but don't be shocked if I pop back up in the mid 90s to make a player in their prime for S100. It's a cool milestone, one that people should be proud of, and I'd be excited to see what the next era brings.

Dom reacted to AJW in Simon's world
In a dramatic 7 game series, the London United have been crowned the winners of the S88 Continental Cup. It was a weird series that resulted in a reverse sweep after being down 3-1 to the Seattle Bears. This mimic'd the VHLM playoffs this season To a T, with an under dog team in Philadelphia (London was not favored) trumping the second seed Mexico City Kings (same story as Seattle).

This makes me believe we are truly living in Simon's world. I don't understand how Booberry switched his off switch after game 5 and how Teno then stole the show. I don't know how Seattle couldn't score one power play goal on an extreme amount of chances. I don't know how London even got to these finals if I'm being completely honest. I don't know a lot of things with this damn sim engine apparently.

What I do know is that anything is possible in this league and this season's playoffs showed it... from Philadelphia and London performing story book runs, to Oslo creating more history for themselves with their 3rd franchise win.

Seattle walked away today with a shocking loss that I feel no one but London imagined. That's the VHL, I love it and hate it so much. GGs London, well earned and @jacobcarson877 what a debut in your first season GMing, round of applause to you sir. 👏
