Disclaimer (stats are from 42 games into the seasons, this was written last week)
    Cologne Express
    Standings 1ST | Points 70 points | Record 34-6-2

Starting with the Express. No team has really challenged the Express so far this season, with only 8 losses in total and on pace for only 7 more, the express is a great example of a VHLE super team. Being led by Baby Moo Moo(RW) with 58 points, and goalie Clark with a 0.940 SV% it’s hard to say if any team will slow down the Express. It's safe to say the Express are early cup Favourites.

Next Step: Acquire Two more forwards to power up the depth scoring, and a good backup Goalie, Suggested Forwards for the team are LW Alexander Minion (14 goals in 42) from Rome and RW Nico Belique (24 points in 42 games)  from Stockholm.

    Bratislava Watchmen
    Standings 2nd | Points 52 points | Record 25-15-2

The Watchmen are 18 points out of first place, The clear Second favourite to win the cup, the only real challenge to the Express this season standing-wise, and on pace for an easy second-place finish, the Watchmen are being led by stars,  Vlad Von Carstein a Defensemen with 40 points and Chris Sanzone a forward with 38 points, and a fantastic netminder in Pipo Popa!

Next Steps: Acquire a high-scoring star to boost the offense of the team, Suggested player would be BjorkaBjorn BjornaBjorkson (57 points in 42 Games) from Rome or Logan Ninefingers (49 points in 42 games)

    Stockholm Vikings
    Standings 3rd | Points 45 points | Record 20-17-5

9 points ahead of the three teams tied for fourth, the Vikings are the last contending team left in the VHLE, the Vikings have been able to keep ahead of the remaining teams with fantastic teamwork and skill, with players such as Riley Martin, Alexandre Crosby and Guntis Gavilrovs standing out. Martin has 55 points while both Crosby and Gavilrovs had 46 points. Giorgiy Costanzov is a brick wall in the net with an amazing 940 SV%!

Next Steps: Acquire a star center, Possible Center who would fit include: Jeid Rohnson (43 points in 42 games) or  Jacob Smith Jr (40 points in 42 games) Both for Vasteras, and finally George Richmond(49 points in 42 games)  from Cologne

    Rome Gladiators
    Standings 4th | Points 37 points | Record 17-22-3

Currently holding the final playoff spot, Rome has the best duo in the league in BjorkaBjorn BjornaBjorkson and LeBen Aky, who together have 112 points in 42 games. With two solid goalies in the net, Rome's downfall is the lack of depth, while other teams have a lot of defensive depth and three forward lines. Rome has no real depth and it has shown.

Next Steps: Sell the core and rebuild, with how much they are missing from the core to contend, it’s not possible to become deep enough to challenge the watchmen or express without getting rid of everything Rome has, so it’s time to trust the process and rebuild

    Vasteras Iron Eagles
    Standings 5th | Points 37 points | Record 16-21-7

The Vasteras Iron Eagle are one trade away from playoffs, with the depth core of the Iron Eagles, great players such as Jeid Rohnson (43 points in 42 games), and three different players with 40 players, plus a fantastic duo in net with Karl Herzlich, and Devon Giguere. The Iron Eagles will most likely overtake Rome in the standings in the next few days.

Next Steps: Acquire a star forward or two, Rome has the duo of Leben Aky, and BjorkaBjorn BjornaBjorkson who have a total of 112 points in 42 games, and good trade with rome could acquire you both the players and put Vasteras Iron Eagles in a great spot for a cup!

    Oslo Storm
    Standings 6th | Points 37 points | Record 14-19-9

Currently, the Storm are last in the VHLE, facing the same problem as Rome, but missing the star duo, Logan Ninefingers has tried to keep his team in the mix (49 points in 42 games) With help from goaltenders David Slezak and Toddly Bobbly both with respectable SV%, the Storm just need a deeper player pool to contend, something they do not have the pieces to acquire.

Next Steps:  Sell the core and rebuild, with how much they are missing from the core to contend, it’s not possible to become deep enough to challenge any team in the VHLE in a seven game series, OR If the Storm can keep doing enough to get into OT and win all of there OT games they could make playoffs, but that's a far if.

So the season has begun, and to the notice of many Warsaw has not started off well. Dealing with the slander and criticism each day is tough but I won’t let some of you assholes win and bully myself out of the position, I’ll tank for 20 more seasons if it means I don’t let them win. I understand now why Cow in the most recent case, stepped down from his position in New York. It is so much easier to throw this criticism and meme on the decisions of a GM than it is to receive them. I feel I definitely played a part in destroying his mental state as a GM by joining in on the meme and joking about his time as a GM. But this is just my thoughts so far into the season, I will refuse to give up until at least TDL, if you were in my locker room you would know how much effort I’m putting in to try and make this a competitive team. Anyways I’ll get into what I wanted to write this article about, kind of justifying my decisions (some bad yes) but also how Warsaw semi got screwed over in our rebuild process on part of myself and other factors.

I took over Warsaw a few seasons ago, was handed a playoff caliber team with many notable players, made the playoffs twice but lost the 1st round each time. After that I blew up the team to try and get picks. S87’s draft was the last remnants of what previous GM Dlamb had set up. 2 1st round picks and 2 2nds for a draft that would go 4 rounds. From that I selected Hannibal Barca (206tpe), Tim Riggins(182tpe), Mac Dre (128tpe), and Tyler Swift(161tpe). Not terrible picks for the time, though the callup minimum then from the VHLE was 350 so a little ways to go.

Now forgive me my memory isn’t entirely clear but in the S88/89 drafts Warsaw didn’t really have many early round picks, I believe I was trying to still fight for the team to stay competitive with the roster I came into. If you’d like to know that story line and are more interested in digging it up then me, please go for it.

Season 90 now, Warsaw headed into the draft with 2 1sts, 2 2nds, and 2 3rds. Sure the 2nds were relatively late but not a terrible draft stock to have in the history of VHL drafts. From that we drafted Maxim Anisimov (311tpe), King Kisslinger (261tpe),Jorji Costova(176tpe), Joseph Jec(226tpe), Aeschylus Jigglejawns CXXXVII II(128tpe), Joseph Dubois (180tpe), and a couple other players but I’m not looking to go past the 3rd right now. The draft would go 4 rounds, we’d snag a few hopefully franchise players that would spend some development time in the E so that we could go for another high pick the next season.

S91 was a very good draft to have 1st round picks in if you wanted a high earning player, I could’ve drafted myself, however I felt Warsaw was lacking future depth to back up the cornerstone pieces we drafted the season before. Therefore I traded away 2oa to go back to 13oa and pick up 2 2nds. In terms of picks that draft Warsaw had 1 1st, 4 2nds, and a high 3rd. From that we would draft Spanish Moth (292tpe), Behrens Minion(214tpe), Jacob Smith Jr (155tpe), Dietrich Reingaard (131tpe), Pipo Popa (195tpe), and Anasari Reingaard (121tpe) in a draft that would only go 3 rounds.

This in this most recent draft Warsaw traded away 2oa for my own player (2oa the season before lol) and had 3 2nds in total for a draft that would literally only go 2 rounds (not even). If you haven’t caught on the what I’m trying to get at don’t worry here it is. In the time Warsaw went into a rebuild the quality of draft classes/picks decreased so much. In total over the season’s covered if I did my math right Warsaw had 5 1sts, 11 2nds, and some other amount of 3rds (didn’t calculate since i didn’t include it in every season covered). In past seasons that kind of draft capitol would be pretty impressive. But on my own part and to the shrinking classes most of the picks just didn’t pan out.

So now this leads me to the future picks. I wanted a short sort of buy while future big player such as myself, anisimov, and the king finished getting up to that sort of top player tpe range. I brought it Wallob, Champagne, Rex, Maple, some players that if I can figure out how to put together, might get the job done and make the season a little bit more fun. After this past draft having only 2 rounds I was less than enthusiastic for seasons to come, especially with the state of recruitment. Yes I knew there was a recruitment drive coming well in advance to where I didn’t have to make these decisions to sell my picks, but having been on the wrong side of quite a few failed ads the prospect of “oh this ad is coming out and is going to be different than the last few” didn’t excite me. So essentially I bet on the ad panning out to around the same amount of recruitment as the past few. That bet has obviously not played out and you could say I’ve lost.

I still have hope in my team, like I said I will not give up. Many people have asked me if because of these moves I will be stepping down after the season, I will absolutely not. Like I said earlier fuck all of you that criticize me and meme on my team, I’m not going anywhere and will tank until S200 if I have to. Members of this league can be such assholes to the GM’s. Yes I’ve made bad moves, but in my opinion it’s just the perfect shit storm of poor recruitment and my own decisions. I have no one other than myself to blame for the state of the team, nor would I try to pawn it off on anyone else. But to the members that are constantly, daily, after each sim, and each move, in every thread, criticizing me, fuck off. You’re destroying the morale of a highly productive member of this league and despite wanting more members, try to destroy the loyal ones. That’s all.

Make the Main VHL Discord be an more open and connected space to the league:
Here are some of my suggestion

Press Box: Area for GMs to post offical statements from there team, and allowing you to roleplay as your player in a space where you can come up with small statements about sims, too small for a point tasks but still fun, who knows it may help players come up with ideas for PTs

Job Board: Its easy to miss Job application posts if you don't check the main site fast and often, and discord post are quickly lost, an real place for those links make sense, as they get posted there anyways, and then more people may apply for jobs!

Neutral VC's: All the Voice chats being named makes it hard to feel like you should joining, have one or two neutral VCs may create more activity.

Events: Inner leagues events, This takes a while and effort, but approved members of the league should be able to host event nights, games, watch party's, movie night, etc. Plus more treasure hunts for TPE on the forum its been done before and was fun. maybe two theme weeks a seasons, just more for engagement where the league actually feels connect and builds bonds

Geneva, a team that made a brief impact on the Victory Hockey League as a whole, helping to develop players such as The Board Game Clue on Skates, Ronan Lavelle, Kronchy Kardashian, and Leonard Triller! However after only Nine Short Seasons in the VHLE the Geneva Rush pages in the history books ended, after having some interesting pieces of history! With the World Juniors taking place in Geneva, it only makes sense to revisit Geneva’s history!

Season 81 (The Mickey Season )
The Chapter of VHLE History Starts here, after the Yukon Rush folded in the VHLM, the rights to the name were given to Mickey Dickson (First GM of the Rush). Fresh from a career with Halifax, Mickey had the choice of where to place the new franchise, and Geneva was the final choice. In an interview with Mickey about being chosen as the first general manager of the new franchise they had this to say “There was a lot of excitement to get to build a team from the ground up. Including picking where the team was actually going to be located. It was an exciting time.” But like most things the excitement didn’t last long, the issue commonly seen in the VHLE struck again. Lack of real locker room activity, and missing communications; lead to a rough time for Mickey.  The Rush would fail to make playoffs, and history would be made in the following weeks, something the league has only ever seen once, and most likely never again.

Mickey Dickson would make the move back to Halifax with Nathaniel Minion (at the time GM of Halifax) taking over as the GM of the Rush, the only GM trade in league history. When asked about the trade Mickey explained in fantastic and clear details on why it happened, “The E and M GMing wise are very different in goals and what makes a good general manager. The roles and responsibilities of a minor league general manager were much more aligned and were more exciting to me than those of the European league. It was a learning experience of what place fit my wants as a general manager and where I best fit in a general manager role.”

When asked about the new opportunity, Nathaniel made the following statement, “I was excited, and glad to face a new challenge, sadly family life meant it wasn’t to be, I went away for a while, but Geneva was a fantastic experience and one I’m glad I took!

Season 82 ( The Minion Season)
With excitement Nathaniel took off in the draft, bringing in the likes of Miervaldis Arpa, Ronan Lavelle, and Milan Dvorak. Geneva would later acquire The Board Game Clue on Skates. With no regard for the future of the franchise Nathaniel built a team to win that season. Just to fail to make the playoffs, after a fantastic season by the rush who just needed better goaltending. Ronan Lavelle would set the standard for a MVP season, winning the trophy that is now named after the legendary member of the rush, The #13 would also be raised to the rafters in Ronan’s Honour, a truly fantastic team legend.

Nathaniel would never own up to anything more as GM of the Rush, he would step down as GM after that season due to a family emergency and never return to Geneva, ending his reign of terror, and destruction of the team’s future.

Season 83-85 ( The Pearce Era)
Season 83, Time for another change in Geneva's office, this time it wouldn’t only be for one season. Cole Pearce took control of geneva in the offseason, and would get star player Brain Kowalski, playing alongside Eldon Escobar, the team would again miss the playoffs, but Cole wouldn’t let that be the end of the season story, he would trade and acquire two second round picks for the season 84 draft hoping to bring Geneva to their first playoff trip in team history as soon as possible, with nothing more eventful happening this season, Eldon Escobar would win the Aldwin Craig Trophy bringing some extra success to Geneva

Season 84, The pattern wasn’ broken yet. Geneva is struggling to make any form of history, beside missing the playoff season after season. After drafting Clueless Wallob, Cole Caufield Jr, and Doug Britton with the top three picks, who played fantastically in the VHLE while they were there in their own respective ways. After the season all the players mentioned would be called up to the VHL, ending a brief appearance in the VHLE and Eldon Escobar signed with Stockholm; Sending Geneva back to square one.

Season 85, four points. Four points, the closest to the postseason Geneva has been so far.The only two notable players this season were Sebastien Dokis who despite his best effort couldn’t bring the team to the playoffs, and Karl Pedersen who played fantastic in net for the team, leading the effort and giving Geneva a chance. After not making the playoffs, Cole Pearce would be hired by the VHL to be the next general manager of Warsaw, ending the Pearce era in Geneva!

    Season 86-88 (The Jordan Era)
Season 86, welcome to Geneva Jordan Tonn your next Rush GM! He showed us Geneva’s worst season in team history, only 32 points. Led by Ash Sparks, the team’s regular season reflected the two players on the roster that were not bots. However the season had one positive for the team’s future, with the 8th overall pick on the S86 draft Geneva Drafted Leonard Triller, Jordan would acquire some fantastic picks and give the team a chance for a future in the league.

Season 87, this season would be a historic one for the rush, as Geneva would make the playoffs. After having three first round picks in the draft (Yaroslav Trunov(never played for Geneva), Jack Jeckler, and Kronchy Kardashian). Jean Mercier led the way in net for Geneva’s first Playoff run. In the Playoffs Geneva would beat The Vasteras Iron Eagles in the wild card round 2-0, but would fall short in the semi-finals to the eventual champions the Cologne Express in five games. In the offseasons Jack Jeckler was traded to the Oslo Storm. Jordan set history as the first GM to bring Geneva to the playoffs, hardware won by this team included Orion D H Chiester IX Trophy won by Jean Mercier, Jake Thunder Trophy by Kronchy Kardashian, and Aldwin Craig Trophy by Leonard Triller!

Season 88, Jordan set more history, drafting Merome Dilson, Jasper Davis, and Nils Andersson Geneva was looking to make a deep run this season, after winning the Kings cup for the most points in a season (99pts). Geneva would make playoffs again but lost to Rome in round one of the playoffs in six games, ending the Jordan Era, and marking Jordan Tonn as the best GM in rush history, two players would also bring home hardware Merome Dilson with the Orion D H Chiester IX Trophy and Jasper Davis with the Ronan Lavelle Trophy.

    Season 89 (Zetterberg Tour)
Season 89, Geneva had one more shot. They chased the cup for the final time, the future of this team was thrown to the dust, everything was to acquire a cup, under the leadership of new appointed GM Tyler Zetterberg, Drafting Zyn Westwood and trading for Nagy AL,and Fradin McGryer, Tyler has Geneva in a place to make a cup run, making the playoff second seeded, Geneva would lose to Express in five games once again. Ending the team's history as a team in the VHLE. After never really doing much as a team, The Geneva Rush joined their predecessor team the Yukon Rush in the VHL history Books.
    Disbanding
Before I go into details about why Geneva was selected to disband, we talk about why they became a team in the first place, Covid bought the world to a halt, making more people than ever feel the need to join the VHL, this massive influx of players made VHLM Teams overflow with players would never intended to play in the league long term, it was too much for the VHLM and VHL to handle, so the land of inactive players was formed, the VHLE was a development league built with a self destruct button so if the players being created in the league reduced the league could fold without too many problems.

Geneva was one of two teams selected to meet this fate first, Rooster size was at a low, and teams really needed a boost in player activity. The number of active players per team was barely enough for a whole starting lineup, something had to change. The VHLE made the call to disband two franchises, said by the E commissioner himself Enorama stated “There was never going to be a correct pick as every team had a history and people who were attached. Geneva fell victim because their branding never really fit and out of the two "expansion" teams with limited history, they were by far the worse performing one.”

Geneva’s downfall can be found within the retelling of their history, the team never stood out, a weak playoff team that took seasons to get there, and when numbers were lost, Geneva fell to an uneasy fate. A fate that the VHLE could be facing as a whole depending on the numbers of the league in the next few seasons.
