  4. Graphic courtesy of Leandrofg (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats) The season has restarted for our intrepid Swiss hockey warriors. Both brothers enter into their third year with their respective franchise. Marcel, being arguably the best pylon back in the Eagles' roster is shoring up their defense and Daniel as a hybrid winger/center (avid readers of our articles will remember that the older Janser started his career as a winger before switching to center) and alternate captain in Calgary. Without further delay, please find our summaries of their first matches in S84. 4-5 (SO) In a Nordic Classical, the Vasteras Iron Eagles conquered the Oslo Storm in a 5-4 shoot out win. Oslo took the lead after three minutes with a power play marker. Maple drew first blood for the Swedish team and tied the game with his first ever VHLE goal. The Storm reinstated the one goal lead seconds before the first break. In the second period, the Norse scored two more goals, one of which was on a man advantage again. Cat on a power play reduced the lead to two with his VHLE premier goal. Vasteras was the only team to score in the third frame with markers by Cat and Puk. The game went into overtime which did not bring a winner. So it was shootout lottery-time, where Jute kept his net clean and McTavish converted his attempt. The three stars were awarded to Bielas (2g/1a), Puk (1g/1a) and Cat (2g/0a). On the goaltending front, winning netminder Jute (.895) had to concede the field to Tombstone (.937) as the latter allowed the same amount of goal with almost double the shots against (63-38). Vasteras' power play was lack luster (1/6) and their boxplay not up to the task (3/5). Marcel left the ice early at 13:06 minutes into the first with a game misconduct and a 0g, 1a, +1 and 15 PIM (GMC, lead to a goal). 5-2 In the direct rematch, the Eagles took another two points off of Oslo in a 5-2 win. Veteran winger Bridgers and Love with their first VHLE marker gave Vasteras an early two goal lead. The Eagles continued to monopolize the scoring in the second period with Puk and Maple finding the back of the net for their team. Young scored five minutes before the final siren. However, complacency creeped into the Swedes game and Oslo could close the gap with two even strength goals to thwart Jute's potential shootout. Luckily for Vasteras, it was too little, too late and they could nurse the win home. Puk (1g/1a), Bridgers (1g/2a) and Young (1g/1a) were named three stars of the night. Jute (.933) left his opponent (.889) no chance to win the netminder duel. Vasteras' special teams showed somewhat improved with a still subpar power play (0/1) but an immaculate penalty kill (4/4). Marcel was noted with 0g, 0a, +1 and 2sb. 2-5 The third and final match addressed in this issue ended 5-2 in favour of the Eagles' arch-rival the Stockholm Vikings. Vasteras was not able to score in the first period against two goals by the Vikings. In the second frame, both teams scored a deuce with Love and Puk being on the score board for the Eagles. The last period ended 1-0 for Stockholm and hence they took the two points with them. The places of honour were given to Accardi (2g/0a), Duk (0g/2a) and Monster (1g/1a). Jute (.839) was not able to best Clark (.938) and therefore lost the showdown between the pipes. The power play was once more disappointing (0/5) whereas the penalty kill remained flawless (4/4). Marcel was credited with 0g, 0a, -2, 2 hits and 3sb. 1-3 Vasteras won against the Ottoman's in a too tight 3-1 match, considering the shots were 65-18 for the Swedes. Istanbul scored the only goal in the first period for a one nothing lead. In the second frame Vasteras scored three by Mathias on the power play and twice Maple on even strength. And that is all she wrote. Maple (2g/1a), Young (62 saves) and Marcel (0g/2a) were awarded the three stars. Jute (.944) was very solid in net but was beaten by Young (.954) who kept his team in game for as long as he could. Vasteras' power play was underwhelming with only one goal in eleven attempts (not the least owed to Young between Istanbul's pipes) and the penalty kill was awful with one goal allowed in two opportunities. The special teams underperformance certainly made this game much tighter than it had any right to be. Marcel was achieved a 0g, 2a, +2, and 0 PIM record. 1-4 Calgary started well into the new season with a 4-1 win against the DC Lizards Dragons. It took the Portuguese Prodigy Gonçalves a little more than two minutes to score his first goal in the big show for Calgary's first lead in the season. Speaking of making an entrance with a bang, Leandro delivered on that account and it almost rivals the entry his big idol Auston Matthews made a couple of years back. DC equalized before the first horn. Last year's topscorer and silverware hoarder Kotkakoivu reinstated the one goal lead with a power play marker in the second frame. The third period so one goal each of Kotkakoivu and Gonçalves, the former on a man advantage. Kotkakoivu (2g/2a), Gonçalves (2g/0a) and Dahl (34 saves) were the trefoil for the lap of honour. In the crease we saw a duel of epic proportions as both Utonium and Dahl showed their Sunday face with the better end for the Canadian netminder. The Wranglers' power play was decent with 2/7 attempts converted and the penalty kill units allowed nothing much with 3/3 record. Daniel had 0g, 1a, -1, 2 PIM (Holding, no consequences on the score), 3 hits, 1sb and 51.72FO% to his name. 1-5 Calgary faced their first European opponent in the Helsinki Titans to whom they succumbed in a 5-1 loss. It appears that the European conference is marginally stronger than the NA conference, where more teams are in a rebuild circle. Helsinki's Reinhart, a former Wrangler, opened the score in a power play but Calgary's Wolanin with his first career goal in the VHL repaid in the same coin before the intermission. Nezuko put the Titans one goal ahead again and ex-Calgary player Nasherov on a man advantage increased the lead even further. In the third Pearce as well as Nasherov again, sealed the deal for the Titans. Nasherov (2g/0a), Pearce (1g/2a) and Nezuko (1g/2a) were declared the three best players of the game. Dahl (.878) had no chance (and little support from the team) against a Booberry (.970) who performed on their best level. Calgary's power play was okay (1/4) the penalty kill rather on the weak side (3/5). Daniel ended the game with a 0g, 0a, -2, 5 hits, 1 sb and a 44.18% success rate on the draw. 3-2 (SO) Daniel was angry at himself for he felt that he let his team down in the Helsinki debacle and swore to redeem himself. He got the chance to do so against the Vancouver franchise. And boy, did he deliver. But first it was Vancouver's turn to turn the heat up with two goals in the first, one of which on a power play. Janser then scored his first of the season. It did not start well, as he was sent away from the face-off in the Wolves' zone. So Tessier took over (luckily GM Kris Ricer has multiple Centers per line at his disposal). Tessier wins the draw and passes to Reinhart, who one-taps it to Janser. The Swiss winds up for a big one time slapper and puts all the frustration into the shot, to just crowbar it over Fuhr's blocker. After five minutes played in the third, Daniel showed his determination again, when he intercepts a sloppy pass by a Vancouver defender, and enters the zone. He fakes a shot to force the defender to go down for the block and then relays the disc to Reinhart at the blue line who loses no time to let it rip. Fuhr parries the shot but creates a rebound. Daniel anticipated this already and was already in the slot to screen the shot and picks up the lose puck to squeeze into the five hole. Two a side was the score after three periods and since the sudden death did not bring a decision, the winner had to sought in the shoot out. Tessier and Janser with a Datsyuk move succeeded with their attempts, while Dahl had to fish only one puck out of the net. Janser (2g/0a), Reinhart (0g/2a) and Moreau (1g/1a) were named three stars of the game. The goaltender duel was on an all-star-game level with Dahl (.944) and Fuhr (.949) being very close, but Fuhr taking the crown home. Calgary's power play was anemic with 0/2 attempts converted, whereas the penalty kill showed grit and allowed only one goal from seven attempts. Daniel went home with 2g, 0a, +1, 2 PIM (Roughing, did not lead to a goal against), 4 hits, 1sb and a 67.64FO%. Daniel's game winner The brothers statistics for the season so far: Marcel: 4gp, 0g, 3a, 3pts, +2, 15 PIM, 2 hits, 5sb Daniel: 3gp, 2g, 1a, 3pts, -2, 4 PIM, 12 hits, 3sb, 53.77FO%, 1 first star Stay tuned for further stories as they develop. https://vhlforum.com/topic/121157-a-tale-of-two-brothers-light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/121641-a-tale-of-two-brothers-season-end-season-end/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/121774-a-tale-of-two-brothers-quiet-in-calgary/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/122032-a-tale-of-two-brothers-boulevard-of-broken-dreams/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/122431-a-tale-of-two-brothers-off-season-off-duty/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/122542-a-tale-of-two-brothers-offseason-progress/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/122969-a-tale-of-two-brothers-ad-victoriam/ GM 4: Oslo Storm vs. Vasteras Iron Eagles (vhlportal.com) GM 6: Vasteras Iron Eagles vs. Oslo Storm (vhlportal.com) GM 7: Vasteras Iron Eagles vs. Stockholm Vikings (vhlportal.com) GM 13: Istanbul Red Wolves vs. Vasteras Iron Eagles (vhlportal.com) GM 3: D.C. 17. So it is 'rules for thee but not for me' then. Noted. to quote once more the COC rule 1.1. If Ruutu's comment were interpreted as an attack on the community as you stated, the above listed sanctions are the ones which are appropriate. And while it reads 'but not limited to' and suggest that the list can be enhanced, I doubt that the community would accept a retaliation as displayed by you as a viable option. You basically told a member of this community that he should not exist which imo is only one teeny-tiny step away from 'go kill yourself'. I have learnt a long time ago, that 'an eye for an eye' leaves the whole world blind. And maybe one day you will come to the same conclusion. I will not spend more time on the matter since it is obvious to me that you only accept one opinion: Your own. More worrying: you do not care what the rules you are meant to enforce say in regards to the statement you made against ruutu. Live long and prosper
  18. I just read today an article sent to me by a working colleague about the study of Donohue and Levitt who could plausibly make a connection from the legalisation of abortion in 1973 to the massive decline of violent crimes under the Clinton administration. Their reasoning is that statistically unwanted children are rather prone to violent behaviour than children that feel wanted and loved. Apparently legal abortion can claim up to 90% of the decline in violent crimes. This is only a short summary as I understood the article, I do not have the link atm (it is on the work computer) but will post it at a later stage. Please do read it yourself, as I may have misunderstood the content. If I did, this was a honest mistake. If my understanding is correct, this is tragic to start with (I think every story where a woman is in a situation when abortion is the least bad option) and actually works much against the Reps, who always aim for less crime (or so they make the public believe).
  19. It baffles me that I need to point out the obvious here, as you quoted the respective section several times when banning other users: And the fact that you even think it is appropriate to wish another user was not born (or insinuate that his mother would/should have aborted said user) in my eyes disqualifies you as a moderator. If you hold esteem for the function you are currently holding, you would bring this up to the other mods yourself, as in your heart of hearts you know it was in violation of the COC. I do not know if @jRuutu had already raised this issue. He is a grown man and can decide on his own whether he wants to bring this up as it is him who was targeted, he does not need me to do it for him.
