  1. tagging @Shindigs just to ensure he sees this article (and for him to confirm or deny he has a granny in NA)...
  2. Graphic courtesy of Leandrofg (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats) Since last we reported from our intrepid hockey exports, the regular season has ended and both brothers made it into the post-season without taking the detour via Wild Card games. This was expected for the undisputed VHLE-leader Vasteras with a 54-15-3 record and a +70 goal difference. Not so much for the Wranglers who are in a rebuild phase. They showed a 36-32-4 record and a -2 goal difference. The team was offensively carried by Sakukoivu, Lazeski and Johnson. The former two broke their respective points total record and the latter blew his goalscoring record out of the water. Defensively, the Wranglers had to rely on their rookie netminder Dahl, who had a respectable debut season as well as rookie defenceman AirRig 'Pylon' GoodBrandSun. The Jansers' final stats for the regular season is as follows: Marcel: 72gp, 13g, 34a, 47pts, +22, 116 PIM, 111 hits, 81sb, 4gwg, 7ppg, 5 three stars awards (2-1-2) Daniel: 72gp, 31g, 41a, 72pts, -10, 47 PIM, 150 hits, 140sb, 5gwg, 6ppg, 1shg, 55.79FO%, 12 three stars awards (6-3-3) Both franchises experienced a sweep in their respective round 1 series. Alas, with opposite results. Vasteras did the sweeping and eliminated Cologne in four games (4-3, 3-2 (OT), 3-0, 5-2) and Calgary was swept by the Legion (4-2, 3-2 (OT), 2-1, 2-1). Unfortunately, Mike Szatkowski winner Kotkakoivu could not carry over his scoring knack into the playoffs and only contributed two assists in the four games. The post season stats for the Swiss Hitmen show as below: Marcel: 4gp, 0g, 3a, 3pts, +2, 4 hits, 5sb Daniel: 4gp, 2g, 2a, 4pts, -4, 6 PIM, 3 hits, 3sb, 1 ppg, 49.66 FO%, 1 three stars award (0-0-1) Calgary will load up on talent in the next season with the prospects Chicoine (top goal scorer in the VHLE), Gonçalves (a top ten goal scorer in his own right and amongst the ten highest scoring forwards) and Wolanin, who had also a respectable 55 points season with a positive +/-, few minutes served in the sin bin and 6 game winner. The trio accrued for a total of 24 game winners and all of them were in the top ten in that respect. It is save to say, that Calgary will have more depth up front than this season. On the defence, Marcel will join his brother in the VHL and give GoodBrandSun and Beach some relief, as he can be trusted to play boxplay with his defence-first mind set. The Wranglers will need further veteran help in their defensive end though. Some potential candidates are former Wrangler Jokinen who has an expiring contract and left torched soil after he publicly critized Helsinki's brass, Moscow's Power (though if the Menace manages to snatch the elusive cup, this seems unlikely), New York's Reinhart (also a rather wishful thinking transfer as the player has close ties to the Americans' management) and Toronto's Ixazaluoh (who played with the Jansers in the VHLM), all with expiring contracts and the necessary skill to boost Calgary's defence. We are confident that Kris Ricer will find ways to make Calgary competitive for the next season, be it with trades or with FA signings. Stay tuned for further updates. https://vhlforum.com/topic/120906-a-tale-of-two-brothers-two-thirds-done/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/120943-a-tale-of-two-brothers-the-end-is-near/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/121119-a-tale-of-two-brothers-five-sixth-done/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/121157-a-tale-of-two-brothers-light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel/
  3. Glad that no one was hurt in the process (well apart from the pizza and maybe your ego)...
  4. oh I see... I was already thinking I missed a big scandal like the Hoffmann/Karlsson one a few years back (or Evander Kane, or the Blackhawk one more recently)... I get your point, some hockey players I would not recognize without their gear...
  5. I was at the other end of this... I was working in a first level internal IT support in a Swiss Bank (yeah I know very cliché). There was this caller, who called on a regular basis. In Switzerland you only give your family name when you call someone (I for example would say 'This is Janser'). One does not ordinarily give the first name or the mister/ma'am stuff when calling someone. So it is for the recipient of the call to guess the persons sex. Which of course I did wrong as this gentleman had an unusual high voice and to me sounded like an elderly lady. He corrected me and I apologized. He seemed to get it a lot and kind of waived it off. Of course whenever he called again I gave them the proper pronouns/address. All of this is a longwinded way to say, that it is often unavoidable that people mislabel you with no ill intent or ill will, based on the limited data they have at the time. It is just an honest mistake. And sometimes they cannot avoid the 'Mr/Ma'am/sir/whatever thingy as they need to address you as per company policy. It is a difference if you say 'Please, proceed to the take out tiller' or 'Please, proceed to the take out tiller, sir.' I can see why it bothers you and why you feel powerless in this instances. I am not trying to say that it cannot be taxing for you to be mislabeled on a regular basis and do not mean to play it down. The advice I want to give you (and I am by no means an expert on the field), is to not be bothered too much when people make an honest mistake. They are not trying to bully you, or mock you. They do not know better (especially if they cannot see you). I know this is easier said than done, but as much as you cannot change your voice, they cannot know your gender based on the voice alone and have to make educated guesses. Or on a more positive approach: the fact that they apparently 'go after' mostly your voice, means they do not find many other 'flaws' (for the lack of a better word). Which to me means you are a nice person and do a lot of things right (and I have not found evidence to the contrary so far). Your teacher though should have known better, working with kids, and having full name and visual data at their disposal. I hope this does not sound too much like 'man up' rant. Just trying to give you the perspective of someone who has mislabeled other people before, without ill will or intention to hurt, but out of a honest mistake. Wishing you all the best and hoping these bothering incidents will become less and less.
  6. I must admit I am oblivious of the reasons (which says more about me than you). Anyway, thanks for clearing that up.
  7. you know what render was used? Is it Carlson from the Caps?
  8. Thanks to all who nominated me for this esteemed award.
  9. Is this Ursa Major in the night sky as well? If it is that is cool as heck. If not, it is still an outstanding graphic.
  10. A sweep always looks brutal... If you look at the individual games though, they were all a close affair (we could have done with an additional player like Wranglers legend Jardy Bunclewirth though)... First much we outshot Toronto, but did not bury the disc, second game we lose by one (in overtime after all), one goal matches in games three and four (where again we had more shots, but could not find the back of the net)... I did not expect us to go on a direct playoff spot with us rebuilding, so while not happy to be swept, I think the season was not a bad one overall...
  11. 1. No I do not think so. It just appears we are the best of the retooling team of which there seems no lack of in the NA conference. 2. I think we have a shot at anyone and can go further than the first round (and if only to annoy the VSN pundits). And to give the Rock a farewell with a bang, as he deserves. 3. First and foremost as a LR presence and good friend/team mate. I think his presence off the ice is what defines Phil. The presence on the ice is more felt by the opposition with his own record breaking 40+ goals in the regular season and the new all time record he set in hits for the franchise. A franchise that exists since the dawn of time itself. I think Phil set the gold standard for a two way player for years to come. 4. Not much different than for any other game. Take one game at the time, stay in the moment and try to do the small things right. 5. To be a valuable piece to the team they are playing for. If by doing so any silverware comes their way, all the better. 6. hmm that is difficult. But maybe all the Bud Spencer/Terence Hill flicks which make me reminisce of my boyhood.
  12. Welcom @TopTiddee2, I am Daniel Janser, the GM of the Mississauga Hounds in the VHLM. @Ente2997 is my AGM. We are a franchise coming from a rebuild and we can offer you a 3rd line position. We have qualified for the playoffs and hope to enter the title race as a dark horse against the San Diego Marlins. The Hounds encourage locker room activity and the management and the Alumni are always willing to help to develop your player. We encourage you to build the player as you imagine him to be, but also offer assistance if you are at a loss how to achieve your preferred build. If you want to be part of this rebuild/project and we could attract your interest, please quote this message and add #releasethehounds. We will send you an invitation to our discord channel (this is not mandatory but helps enormously with communication) and a contract which kindly accept in order to join us. Whatever team you decide to join, we wish you best of luck and more importantly lots of fun with Reid Johnson.
  13. Hey @der meister, I feel with you. Being a father of two, I worry as well about their well being and in what kind of world we brought them into. Fortunately, in Switzerland, despite readily available full auto rifles, no such horrible things as you mentioned happened so far (and I do not care that it shall start). Alas, traffic can be as dangerous as gun nuts (and on some level is maybe almost more imminent, as drivers tend to be more distracted then when I was a kid, and there is always traffic (and rush hour one to boot)). Covid has been taxing on many people (which does not make it better don't get me wrong) and I can again feel with you. Luckily for me it did not take on the same level as with you apparently. I hope that you will find a silver lining outside the VHL as soon as possible to lift your spirits and give you back some of the energy lost in the recent past. You are not alone and you can reach out to me at your leisure. Be it for casual small talk or more serious matter. What little assistance I can lend you, I am happy to do so. Take care, fellow VHLer.
