Going into the draft last night I was expecting to be the 3rd or 4th OA pick. That did not happen. I was expecting to be the 1st or 2nd defenseman picked. That did not happen. What did happen? For some reason, a bunch of GMs looked at Pope Francis and decided collectively "Not worth it". Why? I don't know I do know, however, that I was a bit disappointed after I dropped so far. I was selected by LA with the 8th overall selection and @InstantRockstar basically told me "I don't know why you were available." I think LA got a huge steal and I am pretty excited to be on a team that likely is competitive for a while. However, I do want to throw out some of the reasons I think so many GMs may have passed on Pope Francis. Not a very round build I disagree with this VHLM builds are always a bit whacky and I have begun to round out the player a bit more. Possibly leaving league This is just not true. I currently spend 1 day a week with access to a computer which basically means that I can't be a GM anymore. I have plenty of time in the latter parts of the day which if you look at when I post and earn that is when I am doing that the most. Inconsistent earning I think this is the most likely. I have been really inconsistent with how much I earn the last month or so. This is because of how much I have been time-crunched, but I won't earn less than 8 a week as long as a presser exists. Scouted Me This is only for 4 teams who scouted me and had the chance to draft me. Those teams knew that if they drafted me I wouldn't want to play there. 1. Sell the team! Get draft stock next season and build off a couple of draft steals and get a championship team built. 2. Why am I here? I was expecting to be a top 4 pick at minimum. So I would say pretty good draft. 3. Just look for low TPE goalies dummy. 4. Not playing in the bigs next season but I would expect a great season in the E before a rookie of the season award in S90. 5. As the season has been over for the Pope for a while now there has only been waiting for the draft, awards, and next season. The Pope has no idea what he has in his future, but he knows what is in his past and the reality is he will be apart of the awards conversation at minimum. During his Holiness season blessing Halifax, he led the league in SBs and was only 6 points away from being tied with the league scoring leaders. The two awards in question here are the Mitch Higgins Awards and the Ryan Sullivan Award. Currently, I view Pope Francis as the favorite to win the Ryan Sullivan Award as he was simply the most effective lockdown defenseman in the league. However, the more competitive award is the Mitch Higgins Award; The leagues MVP. The main competitors for this award are Justin Williams and Olivier Gauthier. One the leading goal scorer for the league and the other the best goaltender the league has seen in a while. I believe the fact that a defenseman is that close.to Justin Williams puts him out of contention for this particular award. Olivier Gauthier is different. If it weren't for this goalie SDM wouldn't have been so high in the standings. If you replace Gauthier with a league average goalie likely SDM falls to 5th in the standings. All that is left is to ask the votes... GMs who do you like more. A star defenseman or a star goalie.
