  3. that is incredibly important, but I do find it a bit disappointing when we lose a server. I think the burner account that isn't used would be a great choice.
  4. Wait a minute... I said no scouting so stop reading this! Pope Francis is a defensively minded defenseman who will most likely make a huge impact in the own end of any VHL team. The old stud from Argentina had a league leading 238 SBs 55 SBs above 2nd place. The Pope doesn't suffer on the offensive end where he was successful being 2nd place in defenseman points in the M last season with 95 points only 6 points behind the leader. While awards haven't been announced yet, it would hard to see a world where Pope Francis doesn't at least get a deep look for the Ryan Sullivan Trophy. Interestingly, Pope Francis led the league in PP goals with 16 with only 25 goals on the season the system that Halifax ran on the PP obviously allowed the Pope to use his strength to power in some hard clappers from the point to either get a goal or a quick rebound goal from a teammate because the Pope had a point in 73% of all PP goals during the regular seasons for the Halifax 21st. Unfortunately, there are a few downsides to the Popes way of playing the game. While using his body as a tool, he led the league in PIMs which led to his Halifax 21st struggling on the PK without their top and for a long time only defenseman. This is especially evident when you consider that the Pope put his team down a man 64 times and without him their bad PK dropped to worst in the league. If the Pope wants to live a successful career in the VHL he will certainly need to figure out how to reduce his time sitting in the no-no box. Also while he led the league in SBs and had a very successful offensive season he still had a poor +/- with only +5. While it is true that +/- relies heavily on teammates, it does still depend on your ability to stop chances. The Pope uses his body and gets a lot of hits, but in a league where hits don't necessarily lead to turnovers it doesn't really help your team when you look at what it does to inflating your PIMs. Discipline is definitely the biggest problem for the Pope and it will be looked at closely by teams as they look to draft this player. The reality is the Pope isn't a perfect player, but the upside can be great when you get such a strong defensive player.
  5. Being part of a league that is *checks notes* more than 15 years old means we are surrounded by history in the league. While the history is unimportant in reality it is nice to know that the league most likely won't be disappearing in the near future. That does mean that I believe we as people well into the leagues history have a sort of responsibility to archive history to some degree. Discord server are hard to archive, but if you wanted to you could search a discord server and find what members of a team were saying when they won that cup 23 seasons ago. That is if the server still exists. We have recently run into a situation where a few locker rooms have either had a few issues with transferring or they were completely lost. This isn't the biggest problem but it is a bit sad. I think it would be nice to have a group do like 10 people who are very high ranking in the league to have ownership of servers specifically VHLM servers that way no one person has to deal with all the servers, but we also never have to lose a server in the future.

  13. 1. The Pope is just going to get better as time goes on. This off-season is going to be a huge growing season. 2. A lot of solid picks in what was expected to be a weaker than average draft. I think that if DC Drafts well we should expect to see them atop the league very soon. 3. I don't really pay much attention to trades in the bigs, but looking at the picks and the future available to DC it is hard to say they won't be a contender soon. 4. I think Bubbles will be important in the short-term, but I do think there is something to be said that a replacement needs to be found quickly. Only 3 seasons of Bubbles left and when they retire I expect D.C. to be in the middle of their cup window. 5. Well the VHLE isn't really applicable to the bigs, but it is exciting to see a prospect eat it up in the M or the E. 6. I hope so! I'm always in for some fisticuffs. Especially as a possible prospect for the team I would love to be part of a team already fighting each other!

  15. So Halifax's season ended in the first round after getting stomped by a team that should have been much closer. I really haven't paid much attention to the M all season this year besides Chiang, but I do know that Halifax probably should have gone to 6 games. However, because of how certain things in the league have turned out two players that could have been big game-changers were not playing for Halifax and I do believe that put a huge damper on the possibility of a deep run. This isn't about Halifax getting curb stomped, but about what I see as a promising future for Pope Francis. The Pope had a good shooting percentage for a defenseman where he scored 25 goals. He also did great with assists with 70 with a combined point total of 95. Where the Pope excels though is defensively where he had a very wide margin between him and second place for SBs with more than 50 SBs making the difference. This is for sure the type of player I want to be building who does great defensively but is capable of collecting some apples on the opposite side of the ice. I believe this is good hope for the Pope the question is where does he get drafted? Words: 215
  16. Over the last season especially I have slowly become incredibly apathetic about not just the Miami Marauders, but the VHLM just as a whole. I don't know exactly where this grew from, but I am going to share some of the things that have grown to cause that and what could possibly have fixed the issue. I'm going, to be honest with you I looked at the standings maybe once a week this season and didn't even know if it was possible for Miami to make playoffs or who we would play in the first round if we did. This is coming off of a multiple-season stretch where I was running a spreadsheet that kept track of every team's winning and losing numbers. I had a very good defenseman in the league and I had multiple double-digit SB games, but I never got excited about them as I would have with Chiang. Is it possible that I am not as attached to Pope Francis as I was attached to Chiang yet? Yes, but I think the main problem is how distant other teams can seem in the VHLM. This brings up my first minor wish for the league which is a better centralized chat area. Whether that is simply making it so people are pushed into chatting in the VHLM discord channel more or an actual forum thread every season where people are asked and pushed into talking about what is going on during the season, their takes on who is overperforming, or even just what they wish to see in the future in the league. I think a great place for this would just be a thread right where the sims are happening. I believe that when teams don't have as active of a locker room as other teams it really hurts teams more than most people realize. It becomes harder to get players excited to be a part of a team and even excited about how the team is doing. I experienced this in both locker rooms I really cared about which were Miami and Halifax. I don't think this is a mistake from the GM as much as it is just a fault of how teams end up. I do really believe that if people were out and just simply talking to other people in the league it would allow both some light banter and people to actually get to know people that aren't on your team. (This is a problem I have talked about at length in my VSN article about the transition to the E and how hard it can be) Secondly, I simply had an awful draft. I drafted 3 players in the first round. One of them got moved up to the E the day before sims (then didn't play in the E due to a failure of communication between the leagues) and the other two simply went IA. This really fucked my draft and pushed me really toward my ultimate decision to step down from the M. It is simply really hard to get excited about your job when stuff out of your control destroys your entire season. Then I went on to get a total of 2 waiver signings all season. I had one active person in the locker room all season and I had so much apathy towards the league that I didn't even really care. The reality is that it is very easy for a season to get fucked over in the M and that even further leads to the strengthening of the first problem. I don't know if there is a realistic solution to allow waivers to be more evenly spread out or if that would even be a good thing, but I am happy that I no longer even have to deal with it because it was one of the few things in this league that I truly hate. Anyways this was a short informational about the things that caused my apathy about the VHLM and why Pope Francis has continuously gotten worse at updating. I believe now that I don't feel pressured by the M to actually do things I likely will be more active in the league paradoxically, but I think the majority of my activity will be involved with the VSN.
