  1. Should be a great game and the only other serious team aside from the US that Canada has played. Russia has had unreal galtending, so that could be an issue. No gimme for sure.
  2. No internet at home all day today. Was also -37 (Celcius), so that was awesome. So claiming Welfare this week since I am going to bed now that I have internet finally! +3
  3. She looks like a velociraptor sneaking up behind you to kill you at the start of that gif.
  4. This amazes me. I still have Skyrim sitting unfinished after owning it for a year now. I slowly pick my way through it. Completing a wole 30 hours worth of gaming in a week is unheard of in my life.
  5. I was at the very first Habs/Oilers Heritage Classic event. I high fived Gretzky and Messier. I FROZE out there in the stands, and it was a truly magical night that I will never forget. The NHL has gone way overboard on these events for sure, but that first Heritage Classic was everything you can imagine an outdoor event, with some of the league's all time greats, should be.
  6. Greetings Flesh Creatures. I wish you much joy as you take another step towards the end of your mortal lives.
  7. I wouldn't feel too bad. It's just our time to have a real garbage team. Every fanbase goes through this at some point. Detroit, Pittsburgh, Chicago. All of these teams went through extended periods of being horrifically bad teams for a long time. The Dead Things stretched for almost 15 years of being atrocious. Things will eventually turn around, but it might not be for another 5-10 years to be honest. It really depends on what changes with management. For now I find myself watching less hockey, or, when I feel like watching hockey, more stuff I just "want" to watch, like the Capitals or the Panthers.
  8. Both of them look incredibly young. I'm clearly getting very old. I feel like I'm in the middle of American Beauty in this thread.
  9. Three close games by Denmark. So nice to see them having success. The more competitve countries the better.
  10. Lovin the Panthers this year. They keep grinding their way into the wild card spot.
  11. I had one glass of spiced rum over Christmas and had flashbacks of my youth. Horrific stuff.
  12. If it was absolutely anything other than an historical article I would have done something. I don't have time to do research.
  13. It's unfortunate the Oilers didn't send Draisaitl back. Moronic organization.
  14. I always love to see the underdog teams like Germany or Denmark play competitive games, but they stand zero chance of doing much other than perhaps a one-off upset game. Still, it's fun to see them keep things close, or even win the odd game when they can.
  15. That's unfortunate but to be expected. The Lord of the Rings are right up there with my favorite movies, and the first Hobbit film was decent. After watching the second one my wife and I walked out after the film and said we would be streaming the third one online since it was such a poor film. Maybe my expectations will be so low for this third one that I'll be able to stomach it sitting on my own couch. Read the book with my daughter recently and we really loved it. Such a shame.
  16. It's the Slovaks. Meh. The real games don't start until later on. USA is the team to beat as far as I am concerned.
  17. Yeah the double space thing is an old habit from my college writing days. I realize it's no longer needed (and probably better with a single space) but I can't seem to shake it!
  18. Since I claimed that any robot takeover (if and when it happens) would not come at a time when you would expect it, and you just now wrote an article about it happening, we must then logically conclude that either I was wrong (and it could happen when you expect it), or that you are wrong (and it's not happening right now because this is a time when you would expect it). I suggest reading old copies of Watchtower Magazine to try and figure out which one of us is telling the truth. An interesting article Flesh-Creature.
  19. Curls of smoke wafted around the android's expertly manufactured head as he sat in his Chevy Volt outside of the arena. E-Cigarettes had become the Robot Detective's latest bad habit to pick up just for fun. Knowing that the toxic fumes from the sticks had no effect on his mechanical body made the action a little funny in his positronic brain and at times a whirring sound emanated from within his chest as he laughed in the creepy way he was designed to. Reaching up, the Net Detective scrubbed the front window that was slowly fogging up in front of him to give him a good view of the mark's position. The man he had hired had no idea that he was bait in an elaborate, and ultimately fatal, game of cat and mouse. He had just left the arena with Mikaelson, as requested, and things looked to be getting somewhat heated. The VHL player said a few words to him, and then, as expected, he carried out his deed. Billions of circuits exploded with interest and activity as the Net Detective leaned forwrad, watching the last moments of yet another man's life. A low humming sound whined as his eyes narrowed slightly; the artificial lenses zooming in to catch as many details as possible of the murder. The way Mikaelson drank the other man's blood was of particular interest to the machine, and he stored the visuals away in a folder for later viewing. This would make seven now. Seven mortals who foud themselves victims to this strange creature that was not fully human, and yet not machine. As Mikaelson made his way back into the arena, the Net Detective started up his vehicle via Bluetooth and the Driverless vehicle quietly pulled away. He looked forward to his next viewing.
  20. Oilers (and Sharks) always have good Game Day Threads.
  21. I love writing, but Historical articles are like nails on a chalkboard to me, so I won't be submitting one. YEAH! will move on by default.
  22. The life of a VHL player post-hockey can be a rough one. Where do you find your sense of purpose when the days of text-based superstardom, virtual puck bunnies, and completely made up hotel parties, all become distant memories? The PGA recognized that even the rich and highly talented need a place to call home when their bodies begin to decay, and thus the Champions Tour was created. Golfers who are 50 years of age or more are eligible to play in this old-timer's league, and it's gone from a bit of an after thought, to a legitimate way for some of the league's alumni and 'graybeards' to earn their usual digustingly high salary and still hit the links from time to time. It's time that we start giving some of our older members a chance to feel wanted again. The VHL Senior League is a way to prevent sending our retired members out on ice flows, but rather to give them value doing what they love. Already I can hear the cries from others as they try and find reasons why this is a bad idea. Let's try and address some of those concerns so that we can get right down to the business of actually getting things done! Another League? Too much work for the simmer! You know what? Whoever said that out there is a very wise man (or woman). This IS too much work for the simmer. That's the beauty of this idea. It's an opportunity to give some wet behind the ears rookie simmer a crack at running a league. Turn off the injuiries, set the lines automatically, don't carry out any trading, and the job is a "Lite" version of what the real simmer needs to do every day. It should be noted that finances, signings, roster moves, and a whole host of other things, would not even be a part of the job for the mini-simmer. If the games were simmed four times a season, instead of every day, then it would be someting to look forward to once every few weeks and give a new simmer a chance to earn their 'VHL Simmer' badge so that when Jardy dies we have someone else to step into his role as sim slave. No one cares about these old gaffers. Let em rot. Now, now, no need to be a jerk about it. These cauliflower heads have feelings too you know! I have a hunch that people would be as interested in the VHL Senior League as they would the VHLM. That's not meant as a slam against the Junior League, but more of a boost for what the Senior League could bring. Old members, some of which never come back to these forums after retiring their players, may suddenly have a renewed interest in hanging around the league after they are done and too tired to recreate a new player. If their old memories get a chance to skate around and possibly add a few Geriatric Championships to the name, then that could keep them kicking around the league long enough to eventually recreate a player again when their muse returns. Think of this as a 'Burned Out Member Retention Program'. The VHL puts a lot of effort into retaining their new members, but isn't it time we took a look at how to keep a hold of our old guys as well? It's the VHL. Bold ideas scare us. Well fair enough, you got me on this one. The VHL does a lot of things right, but swinging for the fences isn't part of that list. That's not to say that cautious and vanilla isn't the best approach, but that isn't going to stop me from throwing out more ideas for people to chew on. I say it's time to throw the old dogs a bone. They are not going to learn any new tricks, but at least we can let them feel some love before we put them down.
  23. Sharks are looking more like the Sharks of old lately. 9-1-0 in their last 10 and playing well to boot. I think the Canucks will be hoping for a wild card spot at best.
