  1. High above Greenland's air space, nestled between Seattle's fading skyline and the snow-capped majesty of the Swiss Alps... Maverick Goncalves was born. His birthplace wasn't a hospital room but a pressurized cabin, his lullaby the hum of jet engines. His first cradle wasn't a bassinet but a stewardess's makeshift haven of blankets and pillows. His father, Leandro Goncalves, wasn't just any passenger on that flight. He was a champion, a name etched in the Continental Cup with a World Cup gold medal gleaming beside it. Leandro had flown to Switzerland in pursuit of another championship in his final season... on that flight, a different kind of victory unfolded. As one of the biggest stars in the league, Leandro found one of the biggest paradoxes... fame is often followed by isolation or loneliness. Cheers echo, yet silence screams. Even diamonds need a hand to hold, not just hands to applaud. With his decision to become a father, even without a life partner, Leandro determined his season in Davos would be his last. Maverick may have grown up without a mother because of Leandro's choice, but his father was there for him every step of his life. The family settled in the Swiss Alps, where Maverick's early years were spent in a makeshift rink his retired father carved in their backyard, nestled between the evergreens of their Davos chalet, mimicking the elegance of the Swiss skaters, such as Daniel Janser. His natural talent for the game was evident from a young age, and Leandro quickly recognized his potential. But Maverick wasn't a mere copy of his father. He inherited Leandro's power and finesse, but his style blossomed. He was faster, more agile, a magician with the puck, weaving through defenders with an almost balletic grace. As he rose through the ranks, whispers of the "Davos Diamond," followed him. But he wasn't defined by his birth or his father's legacy. While his infancy was spent in Switzerland, destiny took a turn when Leandro decided to transition from the rink to the broadcasting booth. The allure of a new adventure and the opportunity to share his hockey knowledge with a broader audience led the family to pack their bags and cross the Atlantic. Canada, the heartland of hockey, became their new home. A place full of memories for Leandro but a new, intriguing, and unknown place for Maverick. After settling in Canada, Maverick became fully immersed in a new culture. The cheers of Canadian fans replaced the mountain air and became the favorite part of his life. Under the guidance of his father, now a respected voice in the hockey broadcasting community, Maverick continued to evolve as a player, adapting his Davos-honed skills to the intensity of the Canadian game. As the young kid grew, he matched his father's work ethic. Resembling a passage from his father's biography, Maverick started waking up early for practice before school and staying late for practice after. This isn't the usual adolescence for a teenager, but Maverick isn't your typical teen. As he continued his journey in the streets of Toronto, continuously falling in love with the sport, the Goncalves' name started weighing on his shoulders. Maverick didn't run away from that pressure. Instead, he embraced, and with pressure, diamonds are made. For all the attention he got, the pressures of social media, or the numerous media outlet requests, Leandro stood by his side, protecting Maverick's privacy for as long as he could. There came a time when this was no longer possible. As Maverick grew, it came a time for decision after his senior year in High School. Where would Maverick's flight path take him? This was no longer a time for protection but one of emancipation. Although, to Leandro's avail, Maverick decided it was time for him to spend some time in university. Not only would this enable Maverick to pursue his studies, but it would also allow him to break free from his father's influence and carve his own path. One season in the NCAA was all it took for Maverick to decide he was made for bigger things. For as much fun he had while playing for the Michigan Wolverines, one thing was undeniable... this kid was a star meant for bigger and better places. The was one thing that came out of his time in Ann Arbor, though... his nickname. Maverick "Airborn" Goncalves pays tribute to his birthplace and skills, showcasing his unique origin and technique. After he scored the "Michigan" goal at that same school, his teammates wasted no time giving him that nickname. This is just the beginning, the blank ice waiting for Maverick's story to unfold. Will he follow his father's path to the Continental Cup? Will he forge his own legend, defying expectations and rewriting hockey history? The puck, as always, is in his hands. Name: Maverick "Airborn" Goncalves Position: Skater Nationalities: American, Greenlander, Portuguese, Swiss
  2. @samx, where's lean the frog?
  3. Woohoo! Can I even use it on my next player? ETA one week!
  4. American? Greenlander? Portuguese? Swiss?

I've settled the backstory for the next player.

Leandro's child. He was born on the flight from Seattle to Zurich when Leandro entered his last season and moved from Seattle to Davos.

He'll have a cool nickname but... What will his nationality be?

  19. Welcome to the new season of VHFL! Below is the randomly assigned draft order for your group. The draft is conducted in a snake order, meaning that each round goes in reverse order of the last. There is a time limit of 12 hours per pick. If the person ahead of you has not picked within their 12-hour slot, you may make your selection, and they can make up their pick anytime after the skip. If a member misses two picks without communicating to me or the GM - not necessarily consecutive, they will be disqualified and the team will be drafted by me or a filler I appoint. If someone has two picks in a row and fails to do the first one before 12 hours pass, tag them and give them another 12 hours for the second pick in a row. Once you have made your selection, tag the person following you. Group Manager: It is your responsibility to make sure that picks are made within 12 hours, and if not, that the clock keeps going for the next pick. Please also have a complete roster within the first few posts of the thread - this saves me time later so that you get your results faster! Please also be sure of each player’s position, and that they are not retired nor in the VHLM before adding them to your roster! When maintaining the updated roster, please copy the roster template below, exactly how it is. Make sure also to spell player names properly when updating your group. Do NOT copy the roster for every single pick. Here are some useful links: VHFL Rules S91 VHFL Top Skaters S91 VHFL Top Goalies If there are any issues, tag the group manager or me.
