  1. This is a great article reviewing how the process of AGM and GM working together to improve a team. The combined experiences with individuals within the league make it a better collective decision making process. The process of drafting, trading and free agency provide an odd balance when it come to improving a team. A positive step in one area may be a negative step in one of the other areas. Hopefully things work out for you and Helsinki can become a competitor again. I give this article a 7 out of 10
  2. Interesting article. With any trade there are so many ways to view it. With this one with so many pieces scattered across multiple seasons it will be interesting to see if someone maps out the full trade tree and puts together a definitive outcome of who won or lost this. I don't think we will know for some time and there comes a point where it only needs to provide impact in this season to be of value. Either way it will be interesting to see how season 97 shakes out. I give this article a 8 out of 10
  3. The season 97 VHL draft happened last night and for the most part I didn’t care. Being in my third season with HC Davos Dynamo and no longer being a GM in the VHLM I found myself in a situation where the exact outcome of the draft meant extraordinarily little to me personally. Sure, I will get an opportunity at some point to play a few games with these players. It is an odd feeling knowing that this draft will have truly little bearing on my player. In the grand scheme of things it is a week draft year, with just less than 3 rounds being completed and some of those being long shots on players staying active. Now all that said I do know that the draft, or at least the first pick for Davos in the Draft held significance. It has been a topic of conversation for almost the entire season. Great lengths were made to position the draft selection in a place where one particular player could be acquired. And after all the discussions, after all the planning, after a last-minute panic, the plan was completed, and Ahma’s next defender came to Davos for their career. So, with that the season 97 Draft passed away into obscurity. Almost meaningless in the grand scheme of the VHL. Davos will remember for sure, but I expect very few others will. And so, we begin the slow progression towards season 100, and the inevitable celebration of the VHL. Sorry what was I talking about, I think I have forgotten.
  4. The Most Wonderful Time of the year. There are so many things that go on this time of year that make it a wonderful experience. Personally, I love this time of year because the temperatures in the area I live, are cooler. I don’t do well in temperatures that make me sweat. That said I know that it is not always an easy time for everyone. People living in abuse, poverty or dealing with loss of loved ones can find this time of year exceedingly difficult. If that is you, I hope that you can find someone to share this season with, find a community that can be around you and support you. Know that you are not alone. We hear a constant echo of the celebrations that happen around this time of year. There are so many of them that I don’t expect that I could name them all. I admit there are many of those cultural and religious expressions that I don’t understand because I am not part of the culture that is involved. Regardless of my understanding I wish you all the best during this time. Enjoy your celebrations, I truly hope they are meaningful to you. What I want to focus on in this article is the great ability we have to change our community for the better. The VHL this time of year puts out a challenge to us, find a cause that you are passionate about and donate, take the opportunity to give blood. Do something that is beyond yourself to bring healing and hope to those who may not have it for themselves. I know that there will be many people who may not have the funds or the ability to give blood due to their own situations or just because they are not old enough. I am going to put out a challenge to you. If you are someone who can’t take on the VHL’s challenge of improving our world then do something you can do to improve your world. Do an act of kindness to someone or something (acts of kindness to animals are wonderful) and write an article telling us about it. Join the positive acts that are going on in this community and share that hope with us all. Let's flood the forum and discord with positive acts of kindness, generosity, and hope. If you put together an article, please tag me in it. I would love to read how this community can improve this world because I really believe it can. We have the ability to enjoy this time of year, but we also have the ability to allow others to enjoy it. If we all do what we can this world will be better. Thank you to everyone who has already or will take part in this movement. Know that even the smallest of positive activities makes a different in someone’s life. You may never know the end result of your action but doing good should not be about the end result but the process of getting there.

  7. 1. i think we did better than expected 2. offseason will be training and visiting friend, definitely celebrating the holidays 3. i sign up for all tournaments i can 4. i think it would be interesting but not sure it would impact my involvement 5. To me defense is the most telling attribute when it comes to productivity 6. That is tough, probably Moscow, they have absolutely sucked the last 2 playoff series they have been in. Losing 8 of 9 games 7. Food is definitely top of the list 8. Go back to question 4, what is this streaming you talk about. Have you not heard of a radio. Generally is is 1960's through 1990's rock, alternative, grunge
  8. I like this article from purely a historical overview. Having only been in the league since season 83 I don't know a lot about the older players and the history of the Hall of Fame. To be able to review this article and even from a top level perspective to get an understanding on the number of players and goalies that made it from every group into the HOF provides a better context. It will be interesting to see how this plays out over the next few seasons as we get to season 100. Unfortunately I think the a few great players have overshadowed some extremely good players and that those players will get excluded from the HOF for no other reason than a great player came along. Great article, well written, and unique. I give it a 9 out of 10.
  9. Not sure if the article itself or the following discussion makes this stream worth the read. unfortunately due to so many factors I am not sure it is possible to do a good comparison across all players across all time. It is like that in the NHL as well. Let's just take Ovechkin vs Gretzky for all time scoring. Now I expect as long as Ovechkin can stay healthy that he will beat Gretzky's scoring record but is it really comparable. The game itself has changed drastically between the two era's. Even if you look at only the stick. Players now can have custom curves on their stick, Gretzky played in an era where you could get a penalty if your stick was outside certain guidelines. Lets then discuss wood versus composite. How better would have Gretzky been if he had today's sticks. Sometimes you just have to step back and say they are both great scorers. I give this article a 9 out of 10 for attempting something most people would avoid.
  10. With Season 96 now over and the championship decided I would have expected that it would be simple to come up with a topic for a Media Spot. There are so many things that can be discussed, analyzed, reviewed, or simply just commented on that it really should be more of an issue of simplifying and keeping concise than finding words to fill the page. Yet for some reason or another I am having a tough time getting focused, stringing thoughts in my head and getting them down on the page. Maybe it is an issue having too many things to discuss or that my brain is filled with all the non-VHL related things going on in my life. Whatever it is I am now here, Saturday afternoon having to get this done as I know that I won’t have any other time before the week finishes. Can’t say that is the best introduction to one of my articles I generally call, Random Thoughts but it will do for now. I should also get into the bulk of the article before the person who must assess my ability to count this for points suggests that I didn’t write anything of substance. Thought One – Discord General Chat I have been trying to get on general chat a little more frequently but find it difficult to connect as there seems to be a constant level of tension between people. Even when someone tries to lighten the conversation by bringing up a random topic (like food) the conversation keeps going back to the problem of the day. Not sure there will ever be a cure for this, but it would be nice to have a general chat that was fun and interesting and maybe even positive. Thought Two – Holidays in the VHL This is one time of year that I enjoy in the VHL, the community regardless of what is going on comes together and does something good. Hoping that this will continue this holiday season. For those who put the work into planning tis every year I would like to say thank you. Keep it up it is well worth it. Thought Three – Stepping down as GM This time of year, gets busy for me normally from a work perspective but this year for some reason there is added requirements. I didn’t want my performance as GM to cause others to suffer so I thought it best to step down and let someone else put their all into it. I may look at coming back at some time in the future but for now I will enjoy the simpler life of just running a player. Well, those are the three biggest thoughts I am having regarding lire in the VHL. Hopefully by next week my head will be back in the space of writing a good article. I expect it will be my normal offseason review of what topic I will pick as my overriding theme for the season but who knows for sure. Anyway hope everyone who reads this has a great week and we will see next week.
  11. Things I don’t know that I would like to know the answer to? It has been a while since I have written a VHL.com article as I have been a GM for the last few seasons and as such have not needed to write as much to earn all my TPE. Now that I have stepped down from my position, I will need to start doing these again. So, I thought as my first one I would start by asking others some questions? I am going to keep the focus of the questions on the General Manager position: I am wondering if someone can elaborate on how important line building is on overall success of a team? Has any analysis been done from a GM perspective to look at how effective they are at encouraging first generation players to earn TPE.? Has there been any analysis done on VHLM GM looking at retention levels by team/GM when the player moves from VHLM to VHL/VHLE? Is there evidence to suggest that GM with longer tenures have better overall success than newer GM’s? Is anyone paying attention to VHLM GM statistics with the elimination of the VHLE? Well those are my questions for now. I am not expecting anyone to answer any of these questions but if someone has insight or details, I would love to hear them.
  12. 1. I think we performed above expectations during this playoffs 2. I don't believe in curses, just hard work 3 I lead in hits and shots blocked, which is what it should be 4. Defense is probably the most important 5. Best advise for first gen players, be consistent in your TPE activities 6. I would add a yearly point task for doing a GM evaluation 7. Brrrrm, Brrrm fast car, go round and round. Does this really matter. 8. If I could have dinner with 3 famous people, i would choose Warren Buffett, Geddy Lee, Liam Neeson
  13. It is with great excitement that Felicia Hardy enters another post season. The expectations for success this time being even higher than last season. HC Davos finished third in the conference, taking the deciding point in the last couple games of the season to squeak past Malmo. That gave HC Davos the opportunity to profit from some rest before their first round, battle against Riga. Riga has been a tough team to play against all season and HC Davos knew they were going to need a strong start if they had any expectation of winning. Before game one, veteran player and mentor Grimgor Ironhide met with all the younger players to offer insight and guidance on what to expect. And with that the series began. Everyone has been tight lipped on what exactly was said but it must have worked because the team came out strong winning three of the first four games. In those games Davos put up 15 goals for while only giving up 9. Strong play by veteran netminder Merome Dilson helped secure those games. Riga, as expected pushed back, and were able to take games five and six to tie the series at three all. Everyone knew Riga wasn’t going to roll over and play dead for the rest of the series, and they put up an exceptional fight. In a do or die situation, Davos again came out strong in game seven with a 4-1 victory. Davos came out focused on game 7, determined to play their style of hockey, defensively focused with the intent of taking advantage of the other team’s mistakes. They didn’t deviate from that plan all game and were able to take a decisive win, closing the series. The excitement in the locker room was extremely high after the game seven win, and they took the time to celebrate their accomplishments knowing that they would face the conference and league leading Moscow Menace in the second round. Like Riga, Moscow had a great regular season. HC Davos knows they will be another tough opponent. There isn’t a player in the VHL who doesn’t know what the forward group built around Jarmu Ruutu, George Richmond, and Maverick Goncalves can do offensively. Add to that defensive powerhouses Obuz Schneider Canet du Bocage and Jillian Woods and you have a team that has the potential to beat anyone they face. As the season 96 Victory Cup winner they proved that all season. Again, HC Davos would need to come out strong if they expected to stand a chance in this series, getting behind and having to adjust their gameplay wouldn’t be the best strategy for Davos. With dedication and focus Davos came out in games 1 and 2 of the second round and played some of their best hockey so far this season. Game 1 was a close 3-2 victor that was decided in overtime. Game 2 was more of a one sided affair with Merome Dilson slamming the door closed for his first shutout of this post season. The offense put up 4 tallies to close this one out. Davos gets to play games 3 and 4 at home with the hopes of closing out this series in front of their fans. The players know they have swept Moscow in the playoffs previously so know it is a possibility. They also know they can’t take Moscow lightly and so the plan is to come out strong, try to put up the first goal in each game and set the pace of play. With the championship finals only 2 wins away, Davos feels they are ready to take the next step.
  14. Press conference week of Dec 1 2024, off season 1) What is one thing you are looking forward to this offseason? 2) What is one thing you are dreading this offseason? 3) What are you looking forward to next season? 4) What is one thing that has you concerned about next season? 5) What is one goal you have for the offseason? 6) Do you expect to keep earning TPE at the same pace over the offseason?
  15. In case you missed it, Season 96 regular season has ended. It was a fantastic season with many players having exceptional seasons. But now with the brackets set, playoffs will be starting shortly. With that said, as we wait for the playoffs it becomes the perfect time to take a look back at how Felicia Hardy performed and what can be expected as we proceed into season 97. To evaluate the play of Felicia Hardy I am going to first compare this season to last season to see if there was improvement or to see if the sophomore slump hit. Once that is completed, we will look at how Felicia Hardy did against other players in the league both positionally and against Felicia’s production. Season 95 had Felicia Hardy putting up the following statistics: Goals 11, Assists 54, total points 65. Plus/minus of –15, Penalty minutes 96, Hits 138 and Shots Blocked 139 For a rookie season that was good showing featuring strong production and overall stable physical play. The only drawback being the plus/minus statistic which was noted by analyst as one of the only reasons Felicia wasn’t considered more strongly as rookie of the year. Season 96 as a comparison is as follows: Goals 9, Assists 73, total points 82. Plus/minus of 37, Penalty minutes 147, Hits 182 and Shots Blocked 119 Many people regress in their second season, that isn’t the case here. In fact, there is considerable improvement over the rookie season. A 26% improvement in production and a whopping positive 52-point improvement in plus/minus. Season 96 is a great season for Felicia Hardy. Now to put thing in perspective we will look to see how that establishes Felicia Hardy when it comes to the league as a whole Looking at the position of Defender, Felicia Hardy placed 8th overall, 3 points ahead of Lucy Leitner and 1 point behind Callum Gary Yannick Janser. To be comparing to those 2 well respected players is impressive especially given the fact that Felicia Hardy played most of their time on the second line of Davos. From an assist perspective Felicia Hardy placed 5th in the league, 2 assist higher than Leif Reingaard and 1 assist behind Spanish Moon Moth. Again, to be placed in that company of players is a respectable position. So, we will look ahead to season 97. Felicia Hardy expects remarkable things next season especially if they can crack the top defensive line and get to play a larger number of minutes with Davos’ productive powerhouses. Rumor has it that Grimgor Ironhide has set their sights on a 100-point for next season, and Felicia Hardy plans to come alongside their teammate as much as possible to make that happen. Well, that is a look at Felicia Hardy and their performance for season 96. Season fast approaches but before that comes, we get to watch the VHL’s top performers battle in the playoffs. Playoff hockey is always a step better than the regular season, so I expect that the fans are in for a treat.
  16. As the regular season comes to an end we look forward to the playoffs, let's answer some playoff questions. 1) League wide, how important do you think goalies will be in winning the championship? 2) Goals league wide were down for the regular season, do you expect that trend to continue in the playoffs? 3) Do you expect that Mexico will win the first round against San Diego? 4) Who will be our most valuable player and why? 5) Will we see an upset in the first round, which team do you expect to be upset? 6) Who are you predicting will win the championship and why?
  17. Would love to see how your analysis of player build efficiency lines up with player productivity
  18. Time marches on and brings Season 96 of the VHLM along with it. With only 14 games left in the regular season it is a great time to stop and look at what has occurred so far, how the VHLM is shaping up for the playoff and finally how that will play out for the Mexico City Kings. With the collapse of the VHLE which resulted in many players stepping back into the VHLM everyone expected this season to be different. And without any level of surprise the expected has become reality. Yet I am not sure anyone could have predicted how odd of a season it would be. First thing to note is that the VHLM is experiencing a massive division in game results. The Eastern conference is excelling, with even the last place team having a positive goal differential. Oddly enough the last place team in the East is tied for points with first place team in the West. Only time will tell if this is a one season glitch due to the makeup of teams or if this will be a longer standing pattern where one conference is notably stronger than the other. My prediction is that it will take a season or two to redistribute players throughout the league and that over time a shift will occur in managing players who earn at lower than max levels. This will allow those players to play 2-4 seasons with a team making for a longer impact on a franchises’ performance over time. Second item to note is the impact of goaltending on the VHLM. In my opinion the fact that we have goalies with above 200tpe builds now competing with Players with below 200TPE builds is creating a significant impact on the scoring in the league. I haven’t done any statistical analysis on the topic, but my gut feeling by looking a the number of shutouts this season so far and comparing it against the entire season 95 shows an increase impact by goalies on the league. Again, it is another topic that needs to have further analysis over time, but I expect that the VHLM GM will be positioning for the stronger goalies each. Season. Third, and I can’t prove this, but it feels like the interactions between GM this season are significantly lower than in prior seasons. In some ways I think that is good as we have had no arguments over minor rule interpretations, but also in some ways worse as there has potentially been a lower sense of engagement than in prior seasons. I may be reading too much into this and it may be that GM’s are spending more time with their players, or there are less questions as GM experience increases but to me it feels like potentially lower engagement. So, with all that said how do I think it will impact the Mexico City Kings. I expect this season we will fall into a playoff spot and hopefully do well in our first round showing. I expect that the success of our goaltending will be key. If we can get a few good defensive games, we should come out on top. Looking farther out I am already working on a plan for offseason, potential trades, draft priorities and seriously considering picking up an AGM to assist in the locker room. So those are my thoughts, we will see how everything works out or doesn’t work out and go from there. One thing is for sure, this is a new VHLM.
  19. Press Conference Week of Nov 17 2024 1) What do you think are our chances of making the playoffs this season? 2) What do you think about the standings structure currently in the VHLM with the East seaming significantly stronger than the west? 3) How do you assess our chances of winning the championship this season? 4) Which team do you think will make the toughest opponent? 5) Who on our team do you expect to have the highest playoff points? 6) Will our goaltending be a major factor in our playoff games?
  20. Press conference for trade deadline and theme week 1) What are your thoughts on the theme week topic? 2) Provide a suggestion for next seasons theme week? 3) What do you think our biggest trade goal is this season? 4) What is one asset we shouldn't part with in a trade? 5) Do we trade to improve this season or the future? Why? 6) How valuable do you expect draft pick to be in the next couple seasons?
