  1. With this season being the first with the new Super Coach fantasy opportunity (and because I need TPE), I thought I would review my fantasy picks for S88. While I can't exactly gauge how good my Super Coach team might be, I think this VHFL squad is the best I have ever drafted in my entire 3 seasons of it. I have high hopes which hopefully don't come crashing down too quickly. VHFL F - Brendan Marner @MetalToday Pick #6 (absolute steal) At 5th overall on the VHFL leaderboards and the 2nd forward, this was the pick that made sense at #6. Marner is the player with the highest TPA across the VHL, leading The Board Game Clue on Skates by more than 50. With a staggering league leading 111 points last year, similar numbers would be awesome and a total even higher than that would give me a huge boost. They score, pass, hit, and lead Warsaw, crucial to their success in every game. If shot blocking numbers get a bit higher this year, Marner would be even more of a perfect VHFL player. S87 rank: -5th among skaters -2nd among forwards F - Landon Wolanin @jacobcarson877 Pick #7 (absolute steal) Wolanin will no doubt tear apart the league's defense and goaltending for another year while playing with the likes of Daniel Janser and Leandro Goncalves as well as Marlins legend Vincent Laroche-Gagnier. Coming hot off a 99 point season and looking for more, Landon the Marlins legend has seemingly succeeded in fighting off hard hitting depreciation, still ranked top 10 in TPA. In S87, he was ranked second in goals to only the insane season of Sirdsvaldis Miglaskems and 5th in overall points. I only see Calgary becoming stronger this season after winning the Continental Cup and with them, Wolanin's fantasy stats. S87 rank: -14th among skaters -5th among forwards F - Vasile Lamb @dlamb Pick #18 (absolute steal) Lamb, my 3rd round pick and perennially one of the best in the league, looks lined up for another great season to round out my forward group. With 945 TPA to their name, they will work with Hulk Hogan 2 and Tavish Degroot to try to get Seattle deep into the playoffs. Lamb ranked 1st overall in VHL hits last season and put up an impressive 85 points and although depreciation will have taken its toll, the players they are surrounded with will make up for any impact that may have I hope. Taking all three forwards with my first 3 picks seems to have panned out really well considering I still had such good defensive and goaltending talent left on the board. S87 rank: -9th among skaters -3rd among forwards D - Siyan Yasilievich @badcolethetitan Pick #19 (absolute steal) After posting what has been by far the most stellar season of their career with NINETY FOUR POINTS and 23 goals as a defenseman, Yasilievich, an S83, looks to repeat their greatness. They had triple digits in hits and blocks as well as 19 points in 16 games in aid of Davos' finals run. Not to mention, winning the Alexander Beketov trophy for most assists. Siyan's move to London shouldn't slow them down too much as they now have the opportunity to play with Hari Singh Nalwa and forwards the likes of Molly the Cat, Igor Molotov, and Marlins legend Leonard Triller. A more than solid pick I was certain I wouldn't get as low as 18 and one I am very glad I did. S87 rank: -12th among skaters -8th among defensemen D - AK92 Wit da Hoodie @hedgehog337 Pick #30 (absolute steal) AK92 Wit da Hoodie is starting the season off the right way with 14 points in 9 games, already solidifying my faith in what was an amazing grab at 30. Tied for 3rd in league scoring, they look to be on their way to an even better season than last year. Having had 66 points, 218 hits, and 168 blocks, the huge boost in TPE this year to above 1100 is going to drive the numbers up and should place AK92 as one of the best defensemen in the league. They will play with Hammar Voss in Moscow, the player with the third most TPA leaguewide, and have dynamic stars like Ronan Lavelle and Tomas Sogaard to feed the puck to, something that has happened many times this year already. S87 rank: -20th among skaters -11th among defenseman G - Lachlan Summers @kirbithan Pick #31 (absolute steal) Lachlan Summers, a true Marlins legend also known as the Mad Aussie, is a wild card pick for this year, but one I think will be one of, if not the biggest breakout star this year. I picked him to win the Stolzschweiger because after placing top 3 in GAA and SV% last year (despite the small sample size) my confidence is high. Davos is going to be a force for another season this year, looking to repeat their finals run and secure the championship this time. Boosting my confidence is the presence of dependable defensemen like Jake Thunder and David Jokinen the Marlins legend who will further aid in Lachlan's attempt to win me both my VHFL and my Super Coach TPE (as that is of course his primary aim). S87 rank: -17th among goalies (rookie in S88) I think every one of the players I selected should have been gone before the point where I picked them, some by a significant margin. If things play out how I think they will, which of course there is no guarantee of, I have an excellent chance at those 6 TPE. Super Coach LW - Nezuko (cost - 10) For my big cost player, I picked Nezuko partially because I couldn't afford a Wolanin or a Marner as it would leave me with very little room to maneuver with my other players. Nezuko also simply had an insane 98 point season last year, a solid jump from 84 the season before and they are also surrounded by 4 other 1000+ TPA players in Miglaskems, Maloish, Murray, and Vandelay. Hopefully they can be of similar value to those very top players at an excellent and efficient cost. S87 rank: -22nd among skaters -11th among forwards LW - Sadie St-Louis (cost - 6) @sadie Well I've gone and picked myself. After having a good season with 59 points last year, Sadie St-Louis the Marlins legend should improve even more this year playing with teammates like Daniel Weaver and the Frenchman (who I totally didn't also pick). She had triple digit hits and for only 6 cost, should be one of the best value picks at that cost to make this work. Also, if I had a good season and didn't pick myself, I totally would have regretted it. S87 rank: -84th among skaters -47th among forwards C - The Frenchman (cost - @OrbitingDeath The Frenchman, after a large resurgence with 77 points in 72 games after having 51 in S86, is one of the players I am most optimistic about this year. OrbitingDeath from what I have seen, finds ways to build amazing players season after season, and hopefully the Frenchman is no exception. I depend on Riga and their young core for my Super Coach team to work at all, and they are going to lead them into the future. This year, they should break the 100 hit mark and I hope for somewhere in the 80s in points if not just for the sake of Super Coach, but for the sake of Riga and St-Louis' fortunes. S87 rank: -69th among skaters -39th among forwards D - Skor McFleury (cost - 6) @Alex To finish out my over-dependence and bias towards the Riga Reign, we have Skor McFleury. McFleury was one of the most exciting young rookies this league had to offer last year, placing 8th in rookie scoring as an S87 defenseman among many S86 players. I think playing with Max Torq is going to be an absolutely massive points boost for Skor and the fact that Riga SHOULD be more competitive in general certainly won't hurt. They are definitely the 6 cost defenseman with by far the most upside and I am excited to see what happens for them. S87 rank: -98th among skaters D - Tater Tottingham (cost - 5) @Trunkxolotl To finish out my Super Coach skaters, we have Tater Tottingham. They had a quiet but very solid 100 hits and 150 shots blocked last season, which along with their 35 points was good enough to lift them into the top one hundred skaters for VHFL. As the defenseman with the highest TPA on the Toronto Legion, Tottingham should see a lot of playing time and hopefully will get to create with the likes of Mac Atlas on the power play as well. The big minutes Tottingham may play give me hope for a big breakout season and I hope this is a good underdog pick. S87 rank: -92nd among skaters G - Lachlan Summers (cost - 7) i have said my piece on this australian man already, 3.82, 3.62 Well there we have it. My fantasy hopes for the S88 VHL season. One team full of players that I am brimming with confidence in, and one team with a much more uncertain future. I'd say it is definitely unique though which I believe counted for something. Please be kind to me simon.
  2. D - AK92 Wit da Hoodie G - Lachlan Summers @Brandon @Daniel Janser I think we just go straight to you
  3. Sorry I had noted he was taken and was gonna pick Lamb instead, then my brain apparently said no
  4. F - Vasile Lamb D - Siyan Yasilievich @Brandon
  5. 10/10. The orange pops out beautifully against the green background and the gradient on the vhl logo works well because it doesn't blend in with the jersey surrounding it. The choice of render being this specific red panda is great because of the expression and the textures in the foreground/font with the cute tail on the D just bring it home.
  6. F - Brendan Marner F - Landon Wolanin @Brandon you can make two picks here to make up your last turn
  7. Chicago Phoenix Press Conference (for weeks ending 4/2 or 4/9) Answer 3 questions for 1 TPE, answer all 6 for 2! claim here --> https://vhlportal.com/players/playermgmt under capped --> press conference 1. What place do you think Chicago will finish in the NA Conference this year? 2. Do you participate in VHFL/Super Coach and do you like that the league runs them? 3. Who do you think will lead the VHL in points this year? 4. What do you like most about the VHL? 5. Do you follow professional hockey? If so, what team/league? 6. Do you have a "bucket list" thing that you want to accomplish in life?
  8. After a sad end to her season, being swept by Davos, Sadie St-Louis has retreated to Hawaii for a lovely vacation with her fiancée Addie, Lachlan Summers, and his husband Frankie. Spending most of their time on the beach and in the water, it is a nice change from the stress that the playoffs brought and the cold of Latvia. But when this trip comes to its eventual end, Sadie will return to Riga and begin preparation for the S88 season. With new teammates in Sergey Preobrazhensky and Max Torq who will be instrumental in a potential cup run, she will work on building chemistry and getting closer with the team. She will be spending a lot of time working on getting faster and working on her poke checking this offseason to better aid in creating chances next season. Hopefully this will show itself in her point and plus-minus totals after next year ends. She is also planning on setting a wedding date- currently they plan to be married during Riga's midseason bye. St-Louis looks forward to next season as an opportunity to really establish herself as an upper level player in the VHL and to leave no doubt about it.
  9. 1. How do you feel about Riga trades this off-season (Sergey and Max Torq)? I feel great about them! We will definitely have a better shot next season. 2. Who is your favorite teammate and why is it Daniel Weaver? It's tough between Weaver and the Frenchman- they both are immensely helpful to my production 3. What did you improve to help the team this off-season? Getting that defense up to better be able to generate counterattacks (as well as prevent goals). 4. Do you think Riga is now a contender this season? Absolutely- We should never be counted out and I think we will go even further than last year, hopefully winning it all. 5. Who do you think will be the best player for Riga in the upcoming season? I have to go with Daniel Weaver- points-wise at least. Nearing 1000 TPE, they will be an absolute force. 6. Who will with the Stanley Cup this season if you watch hockey? I would say the Bruins, but I think they'll choke. I would say the Leafs but we know how their season will end. So I am going with Canes or Oilers for the Cup this year.
  10. 1. Do you expect Riga to be very busy with trades this offseason? We've already landed a couple of big players this offseason (because i am doing this press conference at the end of the week) but I would have said yes, I expected us to make some moves. 2. Are there any specific prospects you're hoping for Riga to take this season? I think being able to grab Liv Slater would be good because they are the best D available in their range and there is a steep dropoff after. 3. How's your health this offseason - were you dealing with any nagging injuries that are healing? It has been very good, thankfully no injuries. 4. Who do you think should be captain next season or is it too early to say? I think it is too early to say but I would definitely give it to The Frenchman or Daniel Weaver- just don't know which one. 5. Did you watch the WBC (World Baseball Classic)? Is it big where you live? I followed it a little bit but wasn't watching closely- it is big in the US but hockey has taken me over. 6. What's a superpower you'd love to have? Flying/teleportation would be immensely helpful and cool.
  11. Congrats on getting your wedding plans settled! That's awesome and I hope it goes well! this is my question too- I think you should just give me the answers next season
  12. At the end of every VHL season, we at the DBC highlight the 10 best players in the league as well as two rookies with promise. Today, we will review the season of Sadie St-Louis, a promising Canadian rookie out of Trois-Rivières. She, along with The Frenchman, Daniel Weaver, and Skor McFleury, make up a strong and young skater core on the Riga Reign that should shine for years to come. Drafted 4th overall in the S86 draft, great things are expected of St-Louis after having had an incredible VHLE year and posting strong numbers before that in the VHLM for the Marlins and Lynx. Sadie St-Louis' S87 Stats: GP: 72 G: 26 (1st) A: 33 (2nd) P: 59 (1st) +/-: -4 Shots: 294 PIM: 46 Hits: 116 SB: 32 GWG: 4 PPG: 3 Playoffs: GP: 7 G: 1 A: 3 P: 4 +/-: 2 Shots: 21 PIM: 7 Hits: 14 SB: 2 Leading the rookies in points and goals, she may have a chance at winning the Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy at the VHL Awards! Already, she is setting herself up for decent numbers in the years to come. Offseason areas to work on would definitely include her wrist shot, as making the most of the shots she gets would net her significantly higher goal totals. Many of the top scorers in the league boast double-digit shooting percentage, and it is definitely not luck. Too many shots were whistled just wide of the net this year. Shot blocking constitutes another area for improvement; St-Louis should work on getting her body in front of more pucks. There have been many instances this year of her failing to block the shot and only screening the goaltender. It may have contributed to that negative plus-minus as well. It was an interesting first season for St-Louis, as going into it, not much was expected of Riga. She started out the year on the second line, and although she herself took a while to get going production-wise, Riga did not. They started out 9-3, pushing into 2nd in the European Conference. Almost halfway through the year, Riga stumbled and began losing much more than before. St-Louis was moved to the first line and given more minutes. Immediately, her production exploded from what it had been previously, netting herself 9 points in the first 7 games after the change and having 12 in 12. Towards the end of the season, the European Conference playoff race began to heat up. It was unusually close, only a couple of points separated the 7th and 2nd place teams at any given time for weeks. Sadie's production slowed down at the wrong time, right as it started to matter most. Riga fell out of a playoff spot only to find themselves back in it after the next game repeatedly. They managed to squeak their way into a wildcard spot at the end, a good result given the expectations going into the season. Warsaw was the Reign's wildcard round opponent, boasting one of the best offenses in the conference. Riga, with big help from the defense and goaltending, dispatched the Predators easily in a three-game sweep. Sadie St-Louis posted 2 points in these three games, and played some of her best defensive hockey of the season, closing on pucks and finishing checks more consistently than she had been. But waiting for her in the next round was HC Davos Dynamo, a team who had shut her down with ease almost every time they met in the regular season. Statistics for St-Louis in this series were considerably worse, but she still managed to earn 2 points in the 4 games it lasted. Davos, in four highly contested games they won each of by only one goal, managed to sweep Riga out of the playoffs. Dejected, they returned to Latvia and resolved to come back stronger in S88. Finishing off this player spotlight, DBC's Keita Mālina interviewing Sadie St-Louis (translated from Latvian): Keita Mālina: I know this isn't the ending you were hoping for, but what do you think you got out of this playoff experience? Sadie St-Louis: I think it really solidifies the desire to get back there and it definitely helped the team chemistry. I'm sure I'll use that experience to hopefully win a cup in the years to come. I was glad that Lachlan [Summers] at least made it to the next round with Davos. KM: Looking back at all of [season] 87, what was your favorite moment? What are you most proud of so far? SSL: It must be said that scoring the first VHL goal was the most important thing in terms of hockey. I will remember seeing the back of the net shaking forever and being with my teammates, it was pure happiness. But I'm also now engaged to Addie [St-Louis' girlfriend] — that beats everything else. I am most proud of learning Latvian this year, to tell the truth. It was such a difficult language, but digging into it gets me there. KM: What's the first thing you plan to do with your free time this offseason? SSL: Addie and I really want to go to Iceland, so that's the plan for a couple of weeks. Other than that, it will be family time and a lot of training. KM: What do you think of your chances of winning the Stolzschweiger Trophy this year? You are undoubtedly one of the leaders and you may be preparing for such an opportunity. SSL: I, of course, have thought I could get an award. I think [Matt] Murdock probably gets it just because of the workload and the results they've faced, but I really hope I can win. A few years ago in 2014 when a banana attack allegedly occurred, I would never have imagined that I would ever be a VHL player, let alone win silverware in my first year. KM: Do you have any end-of-season notes, like comments for the team, the fans, or anyone watching? SSL: Yes. I want to say thank you to the fans for being with Riga last year and supporting us with strength this year all the way to the playoffs. We'll win you a cup next year! Also to my teammates: you already know this, but thanks again for being part of the best team I've ever played on - let's make it even better next [Season] 88. That wraps up our player highlight of #26 Sadie St-Louis of the Riga Reign. The following week, we'll be releasing a spotlight on a lesser-known rookie goaltender with quietly amazing stats this year. Next up, Lachlan Summers, the future of HC Davos Dynamo.
  13. For Week ending March 19th Answer 3 questions for 1 TPE Answer 6 questions for 2! You can claim it herehttps://vhlportal.com/players/playermgmt under Capped and then Press Conference. 1. Unfortunately, the Vikings season came to an end against Oslo despite a valiant effort from Travis Clark with 50 saves. Oslo was able to overcome the defense that had stopped them in the first half of the series. The final with the Storm and the Express is deadlocked at 2-2; who do you think wins the championship for S87? 2. Our excellent GM, MubbleFubbles, is stepping down as this season ends. What is something you appreciated about him during his tenure with Stockholm? 3. What is the biggest thing your player needs to work on in preparation for next season? 4. If you were to relocate a VHL team, who would you put where (and what would their name be)? 5. In the playoffs, would you rather be decisively beaten in 4/5 games or lose heartbreakingly in a game 7? 6. Do you have a favorite book/movie? If so, what is it?
  14. i have just now learned from you that storygraph exists and am now very much on there
  15. this is positively beautiful thank you!
  16. i don't believe they are related, just a funny coincidence with names!
  17. Also I'll take a sig! Player name: Sadie St-Louis Player render: Mélodie Daoust Team: Riga Reign Additional stuff: whatever you want!
