Normally this would just go to the ban thread but given the circumstances I think it's best that everyone know what's going on.

It has unfortunately come to the attention of myself and @Acydburn that @Josh has been embezzling league funds for his own purposes. Via his access to the league PayPal he was stripping donation funds as payments for portal, forum, and domain hosting with amounts far higher than were actually needed. Because the line items were things he was paying for we had no reason, for a number of years, to think anything of it and were unaware that the costs were actually far less than what he was reimbursing himself which amounts to potentially thousands of dollars; we're still working out the total figures.

Obviously we are completely shocked at this behaviour and have immediately stripped Josh of his role as commissioner pending potential future legal action. We have always held firm that the league funds are used exclusively on league related activities so I am quite frankly pissed that a member of the blue team would take donation money for their own uses; whatever his excuses may be. Please be aware that we will be launching a further investigation and audit of all our costs and funds to be sure that no one else has done anything of the sort in the past.

    Sincerely,
    @Commissioner

Edit: In case any future people see the is and don’t see the date; it was purely an April Fool’s joke, Josh was in on it (in fact it was his idea) and the donation money is not only safe but audited.

Super well written article! I love how you bolded the parts where your player was talking it makes it really easy to follow! The article was a super smooth read and was enjoyable to read about your players journey and his promotion to the E! It is a really good time so I’m sure you’ll enjoy it!

grammar was well done, if you wanted to get really spicy you could add a picture or a couple titles but that’s just nitpicking. Overall this is very well done and I wish you the best of luck moving forward!

The next season is upon Anderson, and his eyes have been opened. In just his third season playing in the VHL system, Olumide is now on his third team. This time, however, it is one of promotion and promise, as he has been moved up to the VHLE, a league that is one step from the majors, and one that is more expansive than the previous one. As such, the Bratislava Watchmen are lucky winters of Anderson's services, which should help the team reach new heights - or at least, that is what Anderson is saying; Reports were able to catch the Left wing player at a practice for Team World and in asking him how he has felt throughout the seasons, he said this:

“I like to think that I am where I need to be and while the truth of the situation remains that I feel like I may have done well with another year in Philadelphia, I'm ready to take on the task of a new league with my new teammates. I've not been watching enough to know what the team needs from me specifically, but right now I'm sorry if focused on the classic and trying to bring glory for team world. Once that is done, we Watchmen will get together and see what needs to be worked on throughout the season with more knowledge and nuance”.

One can understand his desire to stay one more season in Philadelphia - after the run they had, which was what Anderson was looking for in that circuit, many fans wanted to see that team make another crack at the title. Alas, the team wasn't able to capitalize at the right time, and now time has progressed the staples of that team further than what could be hired in the VHLM.

When asked about his plans for the upcoming season would be, he mentioned that he had some goals that were specific to him regarding the technical aspects of the game, saying:

“I'm not someone who played hockey all their life: it was quite a late pickup for me and I've been grateful for my spa along the Minor circuit, as they let me find myself on the ice, and the results came about well enough, I suppose. Now as I move to the next challenge, I also wish to be challenged more than I was before. I believe I've been very offensively oriented in previous seasons, but perhaps some technique with my deking or some defense would help round me out and allow for the game to really open up for me against tougher competition. As I said before, I'm not sure what my new team will want for me but I know that in addition to that I'll make some time to perfect skills that'll help me put my stamp on the game”.

Time will tell what Olumide will become: worth work, will he be an offensive dynamo for the team, or will things go a different path, leading to a defensive minded wing or perhaps a utility guy that acts as the glue for the team moving forward? Regardless of the answer, Anderson seems ready to tackle the challenge with open arms.

Theory got a reaction from jacobcarson877 in Anderson Remains Mysterious as to Progression
The development of Olumide Anderson has been something to watch thus far. While it may not look it, the Wing has learned to develop some sort of offensive vision and has seen increases in his assists from his previous season - all while becoming faster than last season as well. The Reapers, Olu’s new team, have recently been on a five-game winning streak while having the third-highest goal differential in the VHLM.

Anderson still thinks it is not enough.

“The goal when I first got to the league”, he stated after a solid outing against his former team, “was to establish a presence; I feel like I can be a great player if I continue to try to dominate with speed alone, forcing opponents to choose what to take away with less time, but that can’t be all of my game”. Many would think he is out of his mind to say that he wants to expand his game beyond what he is at the moment, but Olumide went on to explain that his presence could be better with being able to be a multi-faceted player, mentioning that his stats may have been improving but that there were many losses he could have been better at. At this rate, he’s had as many goals as last season and is currently building a solid resume as a contributor - logging almost 75% of his total assists last season with much of the season left to go. Time will tell where Anderson wants to expand his game to, but one thing is for certain: he sees each current game as a microcosm of his successes and failures, and will work to be better at something down the line.

Theory got a reaction from Spartan in Olumide Anderson Speaks On His First Impressions of His Start in the league
Olumide Anderson has been on the ice for a handful of games and has been performing relatively well when it comes to the main two stats - goals and assists  - but the team has been relatively up and down, though they are riding a 2-game win streak at the moment. After a grueling 5-4 win against Philadelphia, we spoke to Anderson about his experience thus far throughout his first year in the league:

“I think that I am doing well enough, at least with the levels we are talking about for me. I came into this sport without even knowing the position I would play on the line for Halifax, just believing that I would see the Ice in some capacity. To have not only gotten some significant minutes but be able to score meaningful goals in the process is a dream come true so far. I think that I have to become more adept with the puck, as I am taking way too many shots on goal to really be worried about effectiveness, but at the moment I am just taking things one step at a time, in hopes of being better than I was yesterday.”

With 9 goals in his 15 games played, one can say that he has definitely made a strong impression to begin his career, though he is correct - a shot percentage of 10.67% may be good enough for 4th on the team, but there must be improvements from Anderson to take his game to the next level.

    Hello, VHL community.

My Name is Theory. At least, that is what my username says. I am a fan of sports, and while I do have a little more experience with the sports I played in real life - those being tennis and Basketball (with a splash of football) - I am always interested in the coaching side of things. I get curious about every sport’s best coaching strategies and tend to formulate opinions and understandings based on accumulated knowledge. That has helped me in various other sim leagues, like the sister league of the VHL, the SBA, and the EFL.

I mention this because I want to know everything that goes on the ice in the VHL - and this will more than likely lead me into the annals of VHL history as well as a polishing of important stats in Hockey overall. I have already found a home in Halifax, and while I do my proper DD on the history of my team, I have already taken to the ice in a couple of games - even getting to score the first goal of my career as a VHL member. It is all an exciting experience and all that, but I do have another reason as to why I am writing this introductory article:

I want to be the best, if not one of the best, to do it on this platform. While that may have only gotten me two titles in the SBA thus far (and 2 in the EFL), the motive behind my work there is not the same as over here. I seek to bring dominance to the ice for the 21st because I want to showcase I am not a slouch. We have not had the best outings since my mid-season entry, but with the advent of experimentation, I have found a third thing about myself within sim leagues - I love to experiment with builds. I look at players in the big leagues and see a lot of them lack things like Leadership; when starting, I saw that the stat was stated to benefit minimally. To that, I say: so what? If the stat can influence wins, I will more than likely invest Points into it. Yes, I am ready to invest in stats that actually help the team, but I want to undergo a career-long project of making individuals with high leadership. It may be done/have been done before by people still in the league, but I think if I can be of service to a team, while also helping with poise and leadership qualities, Both I and the team will go farther than with just skill alone.

I don’t really know how to wrap up my opening diatribe, but I am happy that I scored a goal in my first season - though we then proceeded to give up 7 to Mississauga (a team that I would’ve signed to had they been closer to home). In the upcoming games I play, I can only hope for meager improvements as I aim to get better at playing on the ice and helping Halifax turn things around. Here’s to my next one, I hope y’all stick around as I get better at this.

Welcome to the VHL, Theory! We're happy to have you. You should have received a PM with some more detailed information, but to get started quickly you will want to head over to the "How to Create a Player" topic. That topic will offer you detailed information about how to use the VHL Portal to create your player and get you started. We also highly recommend joining the VHL Discord where there is a channel dedicated to helping new members with any questions that they may have about the league or improving their player.

Once your player is made VHLM General Managers will be in touch with you about joining their teams. In the meantime, please feel free to ask any questions you have here or in your create-a-player thread. We're happy to have you in the community and we hope you stick around!
  25. Cheers
