  5. I always enjoy seeing these posts pop up. It’s really cool seeing the effort you put into them for the newer players. Knowing someone has noticed you and cared enough to make a spotlight just for you is a huge motivation.
  6. The commitment to the bit made this so hard to read but so accurate hahaha
  7. Walking into the media room in a dark navy suit, wearing a Hounds logo lapel pin and taking a seat down at a simple table in front of a modest group of reporters, Ace Wilde gave a nod to address those who had come to his short-notice press conference. “It has been a week since the S95 VHLM draft and the Mississauga Hounds are happy with all of the selections that we have made. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get in contact with Marek Vojtisek’s agents so we had to release them, but we will be happy to reinstate them should they reach back out to us. The remaining players, including the returning [Cody] Cobberson @Hendrix Cobberson and Clapper [Clapbomb Bardownski III] @Eb14, are all warming up nicely with each other in the locker room and building chemistry. There are a couple of standouts though, which is why I called this conference to begin with.” At this point, Wilde shifted his seat slightly to the left while giving the group a smirk. AGM Matt Skills @mmrs617 came out to join him at the table, carrying some folded jerseys and giving Wilde a knowing look. Ace continued, “In the short time they’ve been teammates, this group has come together and really pushed each other. In eight games so far this season we already have six wins and this makes us incredibly excited about the future. We have a few players here whose agencies have been with the VHL and it’s farm systems for quite some time and we’re happy to see those players stepping it up and helping out those who are relatively new and unknown to this league. There are always new players, and new agencies, who storm into the VHL scene and surprise people, and as a developmental league here in the VHLM we want to recognize that. So without further ado, Matt Skills and I would like to announce the Season 95 captains of the Mississauga Hounds.” Ace stood up, unfolded the topmost jersey in the pile, and held it up. “The first alternate captain we’d like to recognize today is Clapbomb Bardownski III. As our longest-serving member of the organization, and reigning Matt Bentz Trophy winner, Clapper is the epitome of what we’re looking for here in Mississauga. He is someone who puts their body on the line night in and night out and still manages to put up staggering numbers. Bardownski III plays in every situation and doesn’t take a shift off. Congratulations, you’ve earned it.” From the wings of the room, the aforementioned Clapbomb Bardownski III entered to put their new “A” adorned jersey on and pose for some photos before taking a seat at the end of the table. “Next,” Wilde continued, “With an agency tied so closely to the Hounds, we couldn’t pass up the chance to put our next alternate captain into a leadership position. Now, this player hasn’t just come into the locker room and expected to be treated like royalty. They have understood the position they’re in as an established player and have not taken that role lightly, offering to help anyone in need and being a support in the locker room. Because of this, we’d like to announce that Wefernardo Mackingikus @vincentlg2007 will also be wearing an “A” for us this season. We have nothing but praise for Mack and can’t wait to see him be a leader for this team and a beast on the ice.” Again, Mackingikus joined the group at the head table to don his new jersey and pose for a photo op. After the camera shutters stopped and the reporters took their seats again, Ace addressed the microphone for the last time. “That just leaves us with our captain. After hearing about this player joining the league last season at the trade deadline, we were interested and wanted to know more. We had the chance to meet them in the offseason and get an interview in before the draft and we were blown away. For someone who had only 16 games under their belt and an agency that signed on with the VHL just over a month ago, we were pleasantly surprised at the poise and the knowledge that this player possessed. When they were still available for the 14th pick of the draft we knew we had to pick them up and add them to our roster, and they have continued to impress. As a defenceman, in just eight games so far they have surpassed their point total from last season, with 11, and will easily set career highs in every category within the week. In the locker room they have been active and vocal in every aspect, graciously welcoming our new waiver pickup Jay Sikes @JaySmacksss, pumping up rookie goalie Gustav Larsson @azie, and always willing to be that rock after every game. So let’s keep you from waiting any longer. The captain and leader of the Mississauga Hounds for Season 95 will be… Slava Kovalenko @OblivionWalker!” Everyone in the room stood up and clapped as Kovalenko entered the room to be adorned in their brand-new jersey. Everyone gathered to congratulate the young Canadian with handshakes and photos before grouping together and getting a picture as the three: Kovalenko, Bardownski III, and Mackingikus took centre stage as the new leadership group of the S95 Mississauga Hounds. Congratulations to the new captains: C - Slava Kovalenko @OblivionWalker A - Clapbomb Bardownski III @Eb14 A - Wefernando Mackingikus @vincentlg2007 (901 words)

  14. So my first VHLM draft as GM of the Mississauga Hounds has come and gone and here is my experience so far. First, trading is hard, especially in the offseason. GMs have a plan in mind so throwing a wrench into that and offering a trade means that someone has to get a little uncomfortable and compromise if you want to get something done. Throughout this offseason I have put a few offers out there, and negotiations were good, but ultimately it didn’t fit into the plans that GMs already had in mind. This experience was humbling to me because it made me get out of my comfort zone. I have had to learn that it’s not going to be as easy as sending out an offer and it being accepted immediately. Next, scouting isn’t as easy as I thought either. I took it upon myself to put my focus on the inactive players in the draft class and try to bring them back to the league. I know when I was first scouted the experience was pretty cool since it made it feel like a real draft, which I will never personally experience. I tried to make the players feel the same way but getting through to the inactive proved to be more difficult than I thought. The ones who did respond made the effort worth it though, since it means a couple more faces will stick around. As for draft day, here’s Mississauga’s picks and the reasoning for them: 8th overall: Ozzy Batty @Ozzy Batty This one was a no brainer. We had to bring Batty back for another season to earn some more points with the Hounds and we were happy they were available. 14th overall: Slava Kovalenko @OblivionWalker Kovalenko is a big shut down defender who is a big earner as a first gen. We couldn’t pass them up as our top defenceman. 19th overall: Wefernardo Mackingikus @vincentlg2007 Vincent is a Hounds legend so we had to bring him in to get that locker room presence. Someone who earns and knows their way around the league, especially as a former GM, is invaluable when developing new talent. 22nd overall: Kurt Bachmann @Blutch A first gen who’s interview was exactly what we were looking for. They are another shut down defender who will keep out back end strong for a couple of seasons. 35th overall: Gustav Larsson @azie Another first gen who interviewed well. This is our goalie of the future. Although earning is low right now, I’m confident Azie is going to find their way around and be exactly what we need as our backstop. 44th overall: Liamdots Sarkanis @Anomalijs A homegrown player who we were lucky enough to bring back. Sarkanis was a point per game player and in the 4th round, that’s a real gem. 46th: Marek Vojtisek @MAVO Vojtisek hasn’t earned anything yet and hasn’t applied their points, but I’m excited to work with them and get them on track. I’m really hoping this player can be a diamond for us and play a couple of seasons for the Hounds. Overall, I’m happy with my performance this time around. I’m excited to work with all of our new players and really build this team. Let’s Go Hounds!
