Deschamps on pace for record(?) worst season Seattle, Wash. -- With a mere one assist through 22 games, fans in Seattle are curious if rookie center Maxime Deschamps will ever find the back of the net. If the first sample size is any indication, he may very well not. Playing on the team's fourth line, Deschamps has managed only 13 shots on goal thus far - a very concerning number. Perhaps even more concerning is the fact that linemate Jace Hines has also managed only a single point to his name - albeit a goal - making the team's fourth line essentially all but anemic when it comes to creating offense. That said, the team doesn't seem overly concerned as Deschamps just signed a five-year contract extension with the team that will be poised to see him play out his entire VHL career in the Pacific Northwest. While fans may find the move curious, locking the French-born center up to a very team friendly cap hit could prove to be a bargain in the long run. But for what Deschamps is paid to do as a defensive role player, surely fans wouldn't be adverse to seeing him score at least once.

Deschamps taken out by trip to Mongolian Grill Bern, Switzerland -- Brampton centre Maxime Deschamps is expected to be a game-time decision in the team's upcoming game against the Bern Royals as a result of food poisoning suffered from a trip to the Mongolian Grill prior to the team's departure overseas. The 20-year-old confirmed reports that getting seafood in your stir-fry from the popular Japanese buffet-style restaurant is always a poor decision and not one you should consider anytime soon. "People told me to be wary of the seafood but I decided to get some anyways. Obviously it wasn't the right play because I've been seeing what it looks like coming out the other direction," Deschamps said. After being bed-ridden on Sunday, Deschamps did make the flight with the team but is expected to take a wait-and-see approach ahead of tomorrow night's game. "I'm hoping to be in the lineup, that's the plan right now. I'll eat some normal food before now and then and hopefully things settle accordingly."

Deschamps encouraged to stop hurting VHLM players, says 'F U' Brampton, Ont. -- In the wake of several serious injuries inflicted on opposing players this season, Brampton Blades forward Maxime Deschamps has been politely asked by the league to stop injuring fellow players. Despite the politeness of the letter, seeing that it was penned by none other than former (?) VHL Commissioner JARDY, Deschamps politely responded by telling the washed up executive to **** off. In his victory lap season with the Blades, Deschamps has become a physical force in the league, racking up a league-best 218 hits in only 51 games played. The fun doesn't end there, either, as Deschamps also leads the league with 103 minutes in penalties earned despite only five major penalties during the season. Where does it stem from? Well you see Deschamps is far from a talent with the puck, and while his 49 points in 51 games might sound respectable, make no mistake that Deschamps' impact on the game has little to do with the offensive side of the game. As the league moves into the stretch drive of the regular season, lord only knows how many innocent VHLM players will feel the wrath of this French beast.

Deschamps prioritizing off-ice training Brampton, Ont. -- Off-ice training is a bit of a foreign concept for French-born centre Maxime Deschamps, but if the team's coaching staff have their way, that's all about to change very quickly. "He has to get better off the ice," a comment echoed by the team's coach. "Maxime is 195 lbs. right now but he's just not strong enough at his current weight. We really believe that if he can bolster himself in that area it will have a major impact on who he is as a player." And so begins the work. Deschamps has already increased his off-ice training regiment significantly and is seeing some improved results in the early-going. "The team is pushing me very hard to be a stronger player on the ice. They love the way I compete and the two-way element I bring, but they tell me that if I want to play at the next level, I need to get stronger," Deschamps said. "Obviously the VHL is where I want to be so I'm really focusing on improving in this area. It's really just about how hard you're willing to work. If you put the work in, good things will come from it." The early returns are encouraging, however, there's no doubting the fact that Deschamps has a long way to go just yet. In his second full season with Brampton, team officials in Seattle would have hoped to see him in the VHL by now, but the waiting game is one that requires patience. "I think I'm getting close (to the VHL)," Deschamps said. "I want them to see that I'm willing to do what it takes."
