  7. Shankly's Goals Analyzed A list of Shankly’s career goals was just leaked following a closer look at the highly-touted prospect, which was spurred on by the words of New York Americans’ General Manager Mr. Power. Power expressed interest in selecting the power-forward with his first overall pick in the upcoming Season 52 VHL Entry Draft. Below is a list of his career goals, followed by VHL.com’s analysis of the likelihood of such goals being reached: ------------------------------------------- 2 Scott Boulet Trophies It doesn’t really matter what team he’s on, but Shankly may find this harder than he anticipates. Right now the reigning Boulet recipient is Zach Parechkin, and he’s a lock to win another one this season. Considering he’s still got 3 seasons after the conclusion of this one before his career is up, this definitely damages his chances for two. It’s way more likely that he’ll manage to get one, but with the amount of TPE floating around these days, many forwards are maxing out their checking and strength, even if they aren’t building to be a power-forward like Shankly is, therefore the competition for this award becomes much harder. This is another reason why it’s quite unlikely for Shankly to capture two of the coveted awards. 2 Continental Cups This one is definitely more likely, even though it will still be extremely difficult. Unlike the Boulet, with this goal, it definitely matters which team he is on. Given Phil Knight’s players’ past trends, they don’t tend to hop around in Free Agency much. In fact, none of Knight’s players has ever played for more than two teams (Actually Rafter spent his last playoff-run in New York which would technically make that his third team with Davos and Helsinki being the other two,, but he was inactive so to me that doesn’t count). Knowing this, and assuming New York takes him, he definitely won’t be winning a Cup for the first two seasons of his career. After that, New York will be ready for a legitimate Cup run, but it is impossible to foreshadow the wheelings and dealings of the VHL so to make any predictions past two seasons is just absurd and pedantic. Though with the direction New York is headed, we can see than winning twice within the next 8 seasons. 1 Kevin Brooks Trophy This actually makes sense. He is on track to be a top-line forward and thus will be playing with and against great players. He’ll definitely be getting powerplay minutes and so, as long as Ravenwing/Maxwell don’t have another randomly terrible season, they will definitely be helping him out with scoring. This is also on the basis that he is actually paired with them, which is not guaranteed either. However, if the end of the VHLM season is anything to go by (it’s not) then he definitely will be an elite scorer in the VHL so this bodes well for him here. 1 Scotty Campbell Trophy The fact that he is a power-forward helps him out here. If he can manage to get his hands on a Boulet, then he will have a much better chance at the Campbell Trophy. This is because if it boils down to a pure goal-scorer and him, he should edge his opponent out because of his ability to create take-away opportunities by way of hits. However, with the amount of talent in the VHL at the moment, especially between the pipes, there is never a guarantee that anyone will win it. So all-in-all the outlook for his goals are very uncertain. This is obviously not a surprise, since he hasn’t even played a game in the VHL. Who knows, he could be the biggest VHL bust since Jaroslav Oslig. Time will tell.
  8. For the first time since the draft lottery took place, Shankly has made a comment regarding the New York Americans, who just minutes after the lottery announced their intentions to make Shankly their first pick: “Well first off, I am absolutely flattered that Mr. Power even considered picking me up at all, much less as the first overall! It’s a dream come true.” When asked about playing for the Americans, Shankly said: “Well growing up they were one of the most dominant teams in the VHL and they still remain one of the most successful teams ever. When all my mates talk about heading overseas to America, of course the first city we all talk about is New York. So again, it just feels like a dream – and I kind of refuse to believe it until the draft actually happens.” We also asked how he think he’d fit in with the team: “Well I would love to get the chance to play with Ravenwing and Maxwell. I think my playing style would complement their skill set nicely. I would love to do what I can to bring this team back to playoff contention.”
  9. Phil Hamilton is desperately trying to hang on to some hope of progressing into the VHL Finals this season, which would coincidentally earn him his 6th Terence Fong trophy. However, that is not the goal, as he has his eyes set firmly on the Continental Cup. “We fell just short of reaching the finals last season, after a game seven loss to Davos, and I know that if we had made it, we would have won the Cup. Ever since draft day I’ve wanted three cups in my career and I started off great with two consecutive ones, but every season since we’ve fallen just short. With Calgary being as dominant as they have been, this season’s not looking extremely likely either. That is all on the basis of us getting passed Riga, who are an extremely strong side and have had our number more often than not this season. But since I only have two shots left at a Cup, it’s “bar-down” time and I will play with more ferocity than ever before.”
