  17. Game 201: Reign vs. Express Final Score: 2 - 3 Basically everything has stayed the course this season. Calgary are still on top, the battle for Europe rages on, and nothing else matters. The Express have swapped the lead in Europe with Riga 4 times now, and thus win secured a narrow 1-point lead back atop the Conference. From the get-on, the Reign meant to do some damage using their home-ice advantage. They got 3 shots off in the opening 4 minutes, with one of them alluding Zhumbayev and allowing Riga to jump out to an early lead. However, from that point, the Express out-shot Riga 10-3 and managed to even the playing field. P Hamilton zipped a pass along the boards to Lincoln, who turned and fired it across the crease where Mengsk made no mistake of smashing it home. The second period was very, very even. The shots were 7 apiece, and there was not even a penalty in the frame. The difference was another shot by Mengsk with 53 seconds left in the period. P Hamilton and Skovgaard this time adding the assists. And so the Express had the upper hand going into the third. The final period was another even contest. Just over seven minutes into it, Skovgaard managed to beat Clegane for his 30th goal of the season. It was the result of some great passing work by two of the Hamilton brothers. However, the third one, Jeff, felt left out and immediately responded 15 seconds later by supplying Covington with the puck to bring the lead back to a one-goal game. This was all she wrote though, and the Express managed to triumph over their European counter-parts. Not much else needs saying here. It was a great win. 3 Stars 1 - Arcturus Mengsk (COL) 2 - Phil Hamilton (COL) 3 - Niels Skovgaard (COL) Game Link

  21. The All-Star GrandMaster Yes, yes the title is true, although I think I would prefer the title of “Over-Lord” better. What is this all about, you ask? Oh. You didn’t? Too bad, I’m going to tell you anyway. A couple of days back, @Draper popped by my house in his suit and tie. It was a miserable day, all dark and gray and raining like. He was hold an umbrella and a bottle of scotch. I was standing there in my bathrobe, fresh from the shower, looking slightly flabbergasted. I was not expecting him at all. However as soon as I glanced at the 12-year old scotch I knew that this meant business. I beckoned him in and took his umbrella from him. Once settled (and me still in my bathrobe), we sat down on the sofa and he let me know the reason for his unexpected visit. As he started to explain, I poured two glasses of the whiskey from the Isles of Mist into my Glencairn whiskey glasses, adding a whiskey stone to each (right about now, @stevo, @JardyB10 and @frescoelmo are jealous and drooling) “So Phil, I wanted to talk to you about the all-star game, specifically how they are run. I feel like it needs some Phil in them.” “Well, everything can use more Phil in it,” I replied, handing him a glass. “But what do you have in mind?” “The VHL has really appreciated your hard work over the years with running different tournaments – multiple World Cups, the Super Cup, your work in the Hall of Fame and on Team Point Tasks, and of course we’ve honoured all your accomplishments and rightfully inducted you into the Hall of Fame as a Builder, but I think the league needs you once again. We beckon you.” “And here I was, thinking that my work was all done,” I replied with a sigh. “Alright so what do you need?” “If we are going to make the All-Star Weekend a legitmate event for everyone to get excited about, we need someone running it, organizing the drafts and generating hype. When the VHL Admin team thinks of a member capable of that, none spring to mind quicker than yourself. What we need is an All-Star Grandmaster.” “Wow,” I say, my brain a-whir with activity (I swear it wasn’t the whiskey). “That’s a great idea! I can do podcasts to hype it, live drafts of the all-star rosters, face-cam videos, Announcing the line-ups like they do at home games! The ideas are coming thick and fast!” “I knew we could count on you,” Draper said standing up. “This is the stuff I’m talking about.” He turned to the door but I poured him another glass of whiskey. “Best stay here a while to give the storm some time to blow through,” I said. “Let me pitch you more ideas I have if I were to run this…” And that’s the story. Nothing has been confirmed officially by the league Commissioners but there’s a good chance that this will be happening. -- ~phil
