a tale of two Brothers // World Cup/Draft day part 1

It was a very eventful period for the Jansers this offseason. Marcel travelling the world and the seven seas to find new outlets for the VHL and Daniel playing in two medal contending teams in the WJC and the WC. Last but not least, both brothers were eligible for the S81 VHL Entry draft and were excited in which team they were going to land, come draft night.

We start with the World Cup, where Team Western Europe faced off with Team Canada. This was as close an encounter as it can get, as the North American's had to work overtime in order to keep the chance of obtaining Gold alive. Accordingly, they hit the ground running and scored two unanswered goals in the first period. Deathwalker (Jr, Tessier) scored the only goal of the second period, reducing Canada's lead to one goal. All bets were off for the final period. The Stars scored two consecutive goals by le Massiv (Thunder, the Rock Johnson) and Thunder (Deathwalker, the Rock Johnson) in power play. Suddenly, Europe was in the lead with only 6 minutes to play and it was the Canadians' game to lose now. Unfortunately, it took the Maple Leafs exactly 15 seconds to even the score and take the game into OT. After 4:36 minutes in extra time it was Perry who scored the Sudden Death. The three stars were Gobeil (1g/2a), Dood (1g/2a) and Socks (1g/1a). van Giersbergen @enigmatic (.917) performed slightly better than S81 Greg Clegane, Aidan Shaw and Brett Slobodzian Trophy winner as well as VHL First Allstar netminder Camus @solas (.903). No mean feat if you ask us. Alas, with the amount of shots fired at them, they would have needed to carry even harder than they did to drag the team to a victory. The power play was good (1/5) and box play impeccable (5/5).

Daniel had 0g, 0a, -1 and 32:07 minutes icetime

The Maple Leafs would go on to win Gold against the Vikings in a 5-4 OT win. Congratulations to the double gold (WC and WJC)

The game for Bronze was lost to Team World with 7-3. The United Nations won the first and last period with 3-1 each and tied the second period 1-1. the Rock Johnson (McJake), Hadrian (Deathwalker, the Rock Johnson) and Thunder (the Rock Johnson, McJake) in power play scored for the European team. van Giersbergen (.894) could not repeat the semifinal performance and lost the duel against Dimmadome (.900) but also faced more than double the shots (66 vs 30). A. Reinhart (2g/1a), Idaho (2g/0a) and Welch (1g/2a) were named three stars of the match. Both special teams were very good with 1/2 power play and 6/7 penalty kill.

Daniel was noted with 0g, 0a, -3 and 27:50 TOI

There was no rest for the Swiss winger though as not much later, the VHL entry draft took place and with all the predictions of the past weeks, a single digit pick was a possibility. So Daniel stayed up, burning that midnight oil to see the draft live on TV. Luckily for him, he did not have to stay up to witness his as well as Marcel's pick. But the first former Reaper to find a new home was Ixazaluoh @Vice at number five, who calls now Toronto his new home. Cadmael deservedly crowned his All-Star VHLM rookie season with a very high pick in the S81 entry draft. Congratulations to that impressive feat. Daniel was chosen by the Wranglers at number eight and therefore is alos moving to Canada. Sanderson @SpicyGeckowill join his defensive partner Ixazaluoh in the Legion, when he was picked at the first position of the second round (17th overall). Jones @Masu Chan was selected 20th overall by the Riga Reign, which means he will stay in Europe for a while. Marcel @Morcar80 was taken at 28th overall by the Calgary Wranglers, who have high expectations of the young defenceman, who will join his brother, once he developed enough to play in the VHL. Bernier @Julien_Bernierwent at 33rd position overall to Moscow, TheGreat @Alex Thegreatand Jp @WhiskyJack go as number 37 and 38 respectively to the New York Americans. dokis @Sebastienwas selected 54th overall by Seattle, Ayodele @KingOercy at 59th to the Dragons and the Italian Stallion Simeoni @Alesime as 60th pick overall to the Legion and will form a trio infernale with his Reapers team mates Cadmael and Sanderson.

Stay tuned for the update on the VHLE draft coming soon.
