Thanks for joining us here at VHLM This Week as we got the broadcasting rights to game 1, and hopefully more as the series continues. We'll be broadcasting from the Saskatoon Ice Dome, where the Wild have opened their home up for this tournament to be played in their barn. Let's jump to it. First off, let's look at the starting line-ups for both sides. Strauss wins the draw and this game is underway! Old Boys chip it down the ice but the New Kids pick it up and move it up ice. Old Boys break it up and get it out of the zone, but the New Kids are all over them. They move the puck back in and Reikkinen gets the loose puck. He steps into the slot and looks top corner. Puck rings around the boards and Clark Marcellin picks it up and just slams one on net. Aidan Shaw easily turns it into the corner, and the New Kids finally register a shot on the scoresheet. New Kids keep it deep but can't register another shot and David Walcott ices the puck to get some of the pressure off. 1:55 through the first. Moving the puck around they set up a shot. Pass to Reikkinen, he has time! Settles it, looks, shoots! GREAT SAVE BY SHAW! He snatched that puck clean out of the air and is looking very sharp early in this game. Rafter wins the ensuing draw again for the New Kids and Smalling fires a quick wrist shot right off the draw but Adam Schultz is there for the Old Boys to get his body in the way. New Kids are still on the puck and are looking for something but Schultz gets the puck away and looks to move up the ice. Rybak takes the puck and cuts into the slot and lets go off a quick snap shot, well wide. Chershenko picks up the loose pick in the corner and tries to tuck one in on Shaw but Shaw's there to hug the post. Puck bounces back to Chersenko though and he fires one! Schultz is all over the ice and looking fearless and he steps in front of another one. Puck bounces out to Jarvis Baldwin who lets loose a laser beam! Rybak tips it! New Kids just keep coming (giggity) and Snijider, Higgins and Rybak all get quality chances but Aidan Shaw is not giving an inch! 4:33 through the first and the Old Boys FINALLY register a shot as Anton Brekkar wrists a weak one on Alexander Labatte who turns it aside with ease. DO YOU BELIEVE IN UNLIKELYHOODS?! Old Boys open the scoring in the tournament after being thoroughly manhandled for the first 5 minutes of the game.
