Season 94 has started and the Americans caught a good start. As is standard since Janser's arrival in the big apple, his team shows one of the better defence in the league. The hulking Swiss defender with the no-nonsense attitude is loved by his team mates and feared by his opponents. The hardnosed back just came back from a ProAm campaign for the ages, where he collected almost twelve hundred penalty minutes and a 35-21-61 fighting record in just 58 games. Even HOF defender Brian Payne, renowned for his gritty play, said 'Wow! Insane fight numbers for CGY. 35 fight wins (in the round robin) is impressive. GM Vince Wong was quoted during the official announcement of the New York leadership group, where Callum was confirmed as an alternate captain, that: 'He (Callum) commands respect on the ice, and he is the man on defense that keeps the opposing players honest.'.

So let's see what the veteran defender can do for the cup-draught-ridden franchise from the Empire State.

1-4

In New York's season opener against the erstwhile Continental Cup Champion the DC Dragons, the former showed a display of text book defence, only allowing the one goal which spoiled 36xW's potential shutout. Jeannot scored th only goal in the first period. Dodo grabbed his first point for his new team with an apple on said goal. The premieres kept on rolling as Trunov found in the second frame the back of the net for the first time in an Americans jersey. The Dragons pulled on back during a man advantage, but Analfist and the oldest VHL rookie in recorded history 137 year old Wayne Gretzky (the third debutant on this night) put the nail in DC's coffin. Analfist (1g/0a), Janser (0g/1a) and Amish (0g/2a) were named the three stars of the match. While rookie netminder Benson (.905) showed a decent performance on his debut, 36xW (.944) clearly took the win in the netminder duel. New Yorks special teams need some fine tuning after a long off-season as neither the penalty killing (2/3) nor the power play (0/3) were up to scratch.

CGY was recorded with 0g, 1a, +2, 0 PIM, 5 hits and 2sb

6-5

In a duel between two Original Eight franchises, the Americans took a hard fought win over 'The Six'. It was the Legion though, who first scored back-to-back goals. Before the first siren, Jeannot was able to cut Toronto's lead in half in a powerplay situation. The second period looked even worse for the New York outfit as they only had Amish's marker against their opponent's three. Two of them in less than 30 seconds after the NY defender's mitigating goal. However, the Americans executed great vengeance upon them with furious rebukes by scoring four consecutive goals and snatching victory from the jaws of defeat. Davis, Jeannot, Yvel and Trunov found the back of the net for their team. The Legion had no rebuttal to this onslaught and left the ice as a beaten team. The post match honours went to Jaks (3g/1a), Jeannot (2g/1a) and Analfist (0g/4a). As is expected in such a high scoring game, the netminding left much to be desired, with the better end for 36xW (.902) over his adversary Castle (.813). New Yorks powerplay was Uber-efficient (3/4) and the box play immaculate (2/2).

Janser left the ice with 0g, 1a, +1, 7 PIM (Fighting, High Sticking, with obviously no effect on the score), 3 hits, 4sb and 1 fight won.

Due to their early success, the Americans are sitting first in the league, but of course it is early in the season and this can change swiftly.

CGY's score sheet so far reads as follows:

2gp, 0g, 2a, 2pts, +3, 7 PIM, 8 hits, 7sb, 1-0-0 fighting record
