Does this mean Piffer will stop whining about how Malmo is actually good and still competitive (not a contender though, huge difference)? Also feels like Helsinki just straight up loses every trade it makes with Malmo

@McLovin Thanks again for fun chats and I'm really glad we could make this work for both sides!
@Pifferfish You're so awesome and I'm sad that we had to trade you, but I can't wait to see you dominate the league again next season!

@dogwoodmaple @NineIQ v2 @Oldhead91 @Tuchy Welcome to Malmo!  We're excited to have you join us and hopefully we can keep things growing! 🪴

I mean almost all the players Helsinki traded are IA, or a career backup. Trunov is the exception, but at best they earn 7-9 TPE per week on average. I honestly think Helstinki hit this one out of the park!

Only if other GMs allow Helstinki to be cap compliant 😅

Grape please put your plug's number in my DMs bc we need what you are smoking. Helsinki in a year for contention and with another Goalie in there system to grow turned Trunov who is 3 seasons away from where Løvstrøm is now into him and an extra pick and cleared a ton of cap off their team.

It must be nice to have an opinion shared by nobody else and call me pointing that out "defending Helsinki" as a way of deflecting from the fact that your take is trash. I wish I could live in your delusion Grape. Helsinki made some ass trades, and his 3 best ones in this offseason, were all with Malmo. @McLovin is trying to change the direction of his team and it's commendable and I think it's low of you, a guy with no stake in the VHL on account of the fact you can't get hired as a GM there, to talk shit on his moves. Also looking at the trophy cases, he has... 2 VHLM GMOTYs to your... Oh jeez, let me pull out the calculator.... oh yeah zero. Quiet down and enjoy the ride with the rest of us if you want, but let's not ruin others experience with this trivial mud throwing that you've made a habit of engaging in. Your parents either are, or should be, disappointed.

Realistically though it's not the worst trade HSK made. I'm sure McLovin knows he probably over valued some of the players and has learned moving forward not to do so.

I will say, it isn't necessarily a bad time to be trying to win in EU. No offense, but a lot of the EU teams are pretty bad. I mean you saw last season, we literally had a ~20 win team make the playoffs, meanwhile Chicago, who had ~40 wins missed in NA. EU is at the moment the weaker conference (at least, compared to last season). I think Moscow and Davos are frontrunners currently to be the two best teams in EU, but after that, it's anyone's game. Who's to say that someone like Helsinki, Prague, Malmo, Riga, etc cannot potentially make it in and go on a run? A lot of people determine "GM Success" with making playoffs and winning. Some of those teams under new GMs really haven't done so, so they see an opening and they go for it. Is it the right opening? Debatable. However, I don't think the core idea of buying players and attempting to make the post-season at this specific point in time isn't a bad idea. I think it's a great opportunity for a lot of these mid-major teams to be able to potentially make a name for themselves and attract players in the future.

I think if there's realistically any team that really lost the off-season out of these teams, it's actually going to be Riga because they're going to get their GM hired late and are essentially having to either scrounge up some players and go for a run somehow, or they attempt to sell off with lower value than what these players would've been at the start of the season. It will be interesting to see how EU turns out this season, because like I said, lots of "middle of the pack" teams that aren't good like MOS/DAV, but are still able to potentially punch their ticket to the playoffs.

Also, sorry for rant, if you don't want to read all of that.

TLDR: Not bad time to buy, just a bit of overvaluing potentially. LEARNING PROCESS.

And to add to this, historically speaking, not sure why but 3rd seeded team tend to do really good in the postseason over like the last 10 seasons. I forget the exact amount of finals appearances they made but I was pretty shocked by the frequency of it. Helsinki to me has taken the shape of last year's Riga team that made the finals but just a tier down other than in net (now) where it's probably even.

I think it will be interesting to see who comes in third. Lots of teams that could snag that spot. It will make EU way more interesting this year, unlike NA who I think top 5 are set in stone..

Also, on Malmo's side:

They had essentially no future coming into this season. They were at 0 essentially. Regardless with if you agree with what they did last season, it's in the past now and they need to look forward. With all these trades, they were able to at least acquire some assets that they could use in the future (INCLUDING FIRST OVERALL).

They've turned 0 into 1 (if you get the reference you are a real one). It's a step in the right direction, but they've got to turn the 1 into like a 10 figuratively speaking. Great start, but lots more to do in the future!

I haven't commented on much of the HSK/MAL off-season drama so I had to jump in. ;)
