Reading ADwyer's topic this is something that floated through my mind:

 

Eliminate the VHLM. Sorry for the minor league GMs involved there, but it's something for the greater good.

 

Recreates and new creates would sign with a VHL team for one season instead of being delegatd to the VHLM via waivers prior to their draft, experiencing ice time like they do in the minors but instead tbey already get to know a VHL locker room. There are lots and lots of bot players on every single VHL team, and I figure it wouldn't hurt for the league to get rid of a few of them. For the new members, of course they would be matched up against players that are up and beyond then.

 

The DFA season would not count towards career total goals, hits etc.

 

I'm aware that this is not point blank perfect but my guess that the VHL loses most of its newest members to inactivity during their VHLM days - by incorporating them into the league right away retention could be better.

If you want to eliminate VHLM then we should expand VHL to at least 12, or even 14 teams since two players thing.

That's why I said the expanison thing. Low minutes is gonna be a big problem. 

 

 

The other option is cut two more VHLM teams to make it 6.

All our stats are held in engine; aside from re-creating the players after their draft season there’s no way to have anything they do not count toward their totals.

 

For me the biggest problem here is that re-creates who get a good amount of TPE could be decent depth players but new people coming in are going to get destroyed. Yes, they see a more active locker room and that’s great but they’ll get obliterated in the sim. You’re talking players with 30 TPE going up against defenders and goalies nearing or above 1000. That’s not even considering goalies themselves who would sit on the bench for all but 8 games and then get obliterated for those 8 games. I feel the effect of being thrown into the VHL at such low TPE numbers would dishearten a lot of new members.

Yeah this is a major turn-off identified when brought up in the BOG.

 

I believe @YEAH!stlemania mentioned he had an idea where this would work without alienating the new members but he then might have said he gave up on that, I don't remember.

That was always the issue before. It sucks being out of the major league, but it sucks SOOOOO much more getting rocked and coming out of your first season with like, 3 points.

 

My first time around I actually really enjoyed my time in the VHLM. The team atmosphere was really positive and most of the crew stuck around until draft day. I agree the current system could probably be improved, but elimination isn't the way to do it. It's something we've been working on for years, and it's definitely better than it was back in the day, but there is always room for improvement.

I don't think the idea I had would work too well with the two player rule
