New York, New York.

Contraction has been an interesting process so far. We have seen it put teams over the top in terms of playoff contention, it has replenished the cupboards of some barren franchises. For the hockey franchise in New York City, it has accelerated their rebuild ahead a year or two. During contraction they only added Chase Keller, we say only, but he is a generational talent who may already be the best player in the league. However the affects of contraction led to two other big opportunities. The first came in the draft when Kriztof Mueller who was set to join the Cologne Express joined the draft, and immediately became a top prospect our of the class. In addition to that, former Calgary Wrangler who was subject to contraction became a free agent - that man was Luca Volkov who signed with the New York Americans on a one year deal.

The Americans had a surprising and entertaining season, as they see all of last year's roster return. Led by their captain Case Jones who brought home 3 awards this off-season (Rookie of the Year, Defenseman of the Year, and Top Leader), they also see their veteran superstar Takashi Fujimoto return. Sergei Komarov who had an unbelievable season could be the unsung hero of S58, as he returns shifting to wing to play with Keller and Fujimoto. Launchpad McQuack returns as the second-line center after being an underrated utility players - he will fit more comfortably in the center role as he is set to guide the rookies on the second line. Ike Arkander returns in net, but will have to fight for his starts after the Americans brought in veteran all-star goalie Rhett DeGrath from the Davos Dynamo.

Three other new faces on the roster include Aksel McKnight who at one point was considered the top draft prospect, who is quick and has high hockey IQ, and is projected to be an elite playmaker on the wing. The Americans are also starting Vaclav Hrdina, who recently reclaimed his hockey career, and is looking to have the storybook ending - after being written off as a VHL consideration, he adds some interesting forward depth to this group. They also added Alexander Thrower to their defense corpse, who was alright last year, only led all defensemen in points in the entire league.

One of the more interesting additions, is the one S57 draftee who went back to the minors , Colton Rayne. He had a great season in the minors, and seems to be ready for the big league. He is slated to start on the second pairing, but I wouldn't be surprised if we saw him get significant PP time, as he gets more comfortable in the league.

The Americans could be an interesting team to watch in S58. The general consensus is that they aren't quite ready to compete for a cup, but with the additions and growth of their players, GM Vince Wong believes they could be the team to beat this season.

NY’s roster legit scares me this season with how much you improved. I honestly don’t know how you managed to get in under the cap.
