Nice read again :) In addition to the cap article of Higgins. Isn't it an idea to offer some kind of hometown discount if you played for the same team 5+ years?   That you could sign for a smaller amount to make your team more competitive.

Just a random thought.

That would work well if teams weren't already competitive. That is the thing that Higgins articles make a great point on. League parity is at an all time high right now. Almost half the games played are one goal games, we have 8 teams who realistically have a shot at making the playoffs. Everyone of them still has options this season and next season. Some are close to the cap but most have retiring players making room, players hitting depreciation and going down in salary cap, draftee's coming up for a lower salary cap. The fact is, the system is working as it's intended to work. Teams are competitive but have options. Teams have just enough cap to play with to make improvements but not to overload and make their team the most powerful team in the league overnight. When a team decides to firesale and rebuild one team is very unlikely to pick up all the pieces simply due to cap restrictions.

I should have thought of that for the article since it literally just happened with Helsinki. 5 players to 4 different teams!
