SSN Releases First Edition of FUTURES 15

 

Over the last week, NEXT GEN produced its first editions of RISE and FUTURES, Sports Sim Network’s new scouting and recruiting brands tasked with following the rising stars and future leaders of the simulation sports universe. Tonight, we bring you the first edition of Futures 15, where we rank the top 15 amateurs in all of professional sports.

 

Atop our list in Volume 1 is none other than Benjamin Chevelle, Maryland basketball prize pupil and the NCAA’s likely Most Valuable Player of the Year. Chevelle, a 6’11 behemoth of a young man, set the nation ablaze in Season 39 with 30.6 points per game while helping lead the Maryland Terrapins to a #1 seed in March Madness and a 63-19 record. Chavelle projects to become the top pick in next weeks S40 SBA Draft, where the Toronto Thunderbirds currently hold the 1st overall selection.

 

Behind Chevelle is college football’s Defensive Player of the Year, Case Archer. The Notre Dame alumn tallied an unheard of 17 interceptions in Season 13 while helping a retooling Notre Dame Fighting Irish program to a 9-5 record. The #6 pick in the S14 EFL Draft by New York, Archer was a consensus All-American choice and finished 1 vote shy in the Heisman voting to Alabama runningback Boaty McBoatface, who made our list at #4.

 

McBoatface set NCAA records for rushing yards and yards from scrimmage in S13, leading to his 5th selection in the EFL Draft by the Seattle Predators. McBoatface started the season ranked low in the EFL Futures list and skyrocketed to the 4th ranking, respectively. Both McBoatface and Archer were named Player of the Year for their sides of the ball and expect to be franchise players for their pro organizations. The top selection in Thursday’s EFL Draft was Archer’s teammate at Notre Dame, J.J. Hendrix. Hendrix narrowly made our list, landing at #15 on FUTURES 15.

 

Last week, the VHL held it’s S67 Entry Draft. With the third pick, the upstart Malmo Nighthawks selected Center Phil Marleau from VHLM’s San Diego. Marleau, a massive 6’5 center with all-around skills, comes in at 3rd on our list as well, two spots ahead of Goalie Rayz Funk, who was taken a pick ahead of Marleau in last weeks VHL Draft. Marleau and Funk lead a cast of four VHLers to grace the Future 15 list, as six players from the VHL made our list. That ties with the SBA for most representation.

 

Defensemen Hulk Hogan(5th pick, Seattle) slides in at #10 a spot ahead of Center Aston Martin(4th, HC Davos). Both were selected higher than our 7th ranked player, ACL Tear(#12, New York), and 9th ranked Bjorn Scoringsonn(#9, HC Davos). Missing from the list is Defenseman Lincoln Tate, who was the first selection in the VHL Draft. Time will tell if Tate can outplay the six FUTURES represented by the VHL in Edition 1 of our rankings.

 

Entering this weeks SBA Draft, Chevelle will be joined by five players featured in our FUTURES 15 list including 6th ranked Leonard Church, Duke’s masterful shooting guard who will contest Chevelle’s status as MVP when the award is voted upon this weekend. Arizona point guard Barry Allen Taylor, son of soon-to-be SBA Hall of Famer Kyle Eric Taylor, slotted in at #8 on our list ahead of fellow guards Mvi Skyhailuk and Lou Cifer, 12th and 14th respectively

 

Likely the most surprising omission from the list is Michigan quarterback Max Byrd, whose questionable eligibility for the EFL Draft has tanked his stock and put his status as a FUTURE in jeopardy. Oddly enough his brother, cornerback Jax Byrd, made the list at #12. Jax was selected 16th in the 2nd round by the New York Herd. Max was taken in the 5th round, pick #39, by the defending champion Los Angeles Reign.

 

The first edition of SSN Futures is sure to be polarizing in the years to come. Ranked, and then rewritten, prior to any draft it’s an honest take on the top talent in the professional sports sim universe. Who will prove they truly belonged as an inaugural member of the FUTURES 15? Who will become our first bust? Who will show they belonged on this list over the next 6-10 seasons? Only time will tell.
