S68 Entry Draft for Mississauga Players

Mr. Berocka (AGM Mississauga Hounds)

The S68 VHL Entry Draft has just come to a close and as the Mississauga AGM I will be looking at how our players went in this draft. So, without further ado this is where the final members of the s67 Mississauga Hounds ended up.

For fans of the Hounds and players themselves had to sit nervously through the first round and most of the second round until the first Hound was picked at #25 and this was Balentine Kidd @TukTukTheGreat who was selected by the new D.C. Dragons. Ranked #29 in the rankings means that Kidd was drafted a little bit higher than his stock would suggest. Kidd joined the Hounds 28 games into the season when management hired him as a Free Agent. The English Centre jumped into the team and played quite well for someone who joined later in the season finishing with 19G, 15A for a total of 34 Points. The two way centre really went above and beyond laying more than a hit per game and also blocking 59 shots, which really helped rookie goaltender Block Buster. It appears from recent reports that Kidd will not be playing for the Dragons this season and will also take part in the VHLM Dispersal Draft so the Hounds management would like to wish Kidd best of luck in this draft.

Less than 10 picks latter the second Hounds player was selected and that was Nate Telker @Telkster. He was picked at #32 by the Moscow Menace which was an astonishing more than 10 spots above his rankings. GM Victor must have taken a particular liking for the young Canadian. He only played a very small amount of the Season with the Hounds at only 32 games. During those games he pulled out only 6 assists with no goals on 30 shots. But his expertise showed in the defensive portion with 38 hits and 13 shot blocks whilst only spending 10 minutes in the penalty box. He improved greatly over the season and it will be interesting to see what happens as he grows. Like Kidd and most players mentioned here he will not be playing in the VHL this season and will also take part in the VHLM Dispersal Draft so the Hounds management would like to wish Telker best of luck in this draft.

Only five picks later we saw that D.C Dragons select another Hound player Liam Rooney @elrune1988 at spot #37 a jump of 3 spots over his draft ranking. Rooney’s debut happened to be the same game as Kidd’s debut, and it appears you can not split the two players with them both playing for the Dragons in the future. The Canadian centre scored a total of 25 points in the 44 games he played with 8 goals and 17 assists. It is quite obvious that his role was not as a scorer but instead to be a physical presence with 98 hits and spending 42 minutes in the penalty box. It will be good to watch when he jumps up to the Dragons with Kidd too see if the centres from Mississauga can perform on the big stage. Best of luck in the Dispersal draft Rooney.

Hounds fans did not have to wait long as the other VHL expansion team the Prague Phantoms picked Jacob Perry @Liberty_Cabbage at the next pick of #38. Perry was drafted 4 spots higher than where he was predicted to go by the rankings, this shows that the Hounds seem to be a target for potential gems in the draft. The defenceman from the USA plays an extremely physical game, playing the whole season for the Hounds Perry put up 186 Hits which was 9th in the league and 106 shots blocked which was 6th in the league. Perry isn’t afraid to put his body on the line and do what ever he can to support the team. I am sure that if he keeps up the training, he could be a star defender for the Phantoms. Best of luck moving up to the VHL and the VHLM draft Perry.

The starting Goalie for the Hounds Block Buster @Banana2311 was the next of the Hounds to be drafted at 46th overall. This was the first of the Hounds that dropped from the draft rankings to their actual draft spot. This could have been due to the average season that the Hounds had. Buster didn’t put up fantastic numbers over the season but this is also a show that without a full team in front of the goalie a couple of shots will go through. From what I have heard from Buster he will not take this lightly and make sure it is known that he should have been drafted higher. The VHLM team that drafts Buster will hopefully see him up to his full potential. Best of luck Buster wherever you end up in the VHLM. I think that Buster could make a fantastic back up for any VHL team or even a starter depending on growth.

With the last pick of the Draft Lukas Schweitzer @GlowyGoat was selected by the Prague Phantoms. This was an interesting selection as Schweitzer didn’t play a single game for the Hounds and hasn’t seen any ice time since before the trade deadline. There is not much to say on this selection other than it will definitely be a wait and see pick. As Schweitzer is still a Hound hopefully we will see him on the ice next season.

I would like to say that it has been a pleasure to be the AGM of these hard working players and that I am sure they will all perform extremely well on their new teams. Best of luck @Victor, @diamond_ace and @Enorama on your selections and I hope they perform well for you.
