Arce reacted to Laine in Marlins look to Greenland for back-to-back cups
The Miami Marlins, fresh off a Founder's Cup Championship in S89 have been looking to stock the cupboards with some young, fresh talent as the team gears up to push for back-to-back championships, which would make them the first team since the S83-84 Las Vegas Aces to accomplish that feat. With the season just around the corner, Marlins GM @Arce hopes to have found his two missing pieces in a massively talented, off the radar family.

First, The Marlins picked up RW Dietrich Reingaard from the undrafted market. The hulking 6' 7" is a force to be reckoned with on any line. His up and down punishing style of play will have you feeling it both on the ice, and on the scoresheet. The 16 year old phenom signed with the Marlins earlier this week and put the Marlins right back into the Cup conversation, with Reingaard expected to have a huge season. However, the Marlins pulled off a move that put the entire VHLM on notice.

You see, the Reingaards have a long history of hockey lineage. Deitrich is just the youngest of FOUR Reingaard brothers who are all involved in hockey.

Third in line is Lief Reingaard, a stout two-way defenseman who also plays on the Marlins, and helped lure Deitrich to North America. He's the smallest of the Reingaard brothers by a large margin, standing only 5' 9" and weighing 165 pounds, but hits like a wrecking ball and isn't afraid to use his body to both punish his opponents and block shots. His slapshot is one of the deadliest in the VHLM and he's projecting as a 1st round talent in the S91 VHL Draft.

Second in line is Thor Reingaard, probably the most notable of the four brothers. Thor combines size and scoring into one deadly package. He's known for his tenacity down low in corners and can bruise through the middle on the rush. He wins faceoffs with ease and can easily beat you with his slapshot and wrist shot. He is easily in the conversation to go 1st overall in the S91 VHL Draft, and has already made the jump to the VHLE in hopes of competing with the Vasteras Iron Eagles.

We all known about these three, but aren't we forgetting one? The old of the Reingaard brothers is an interesting proposition

The oldest of the Reingaard brothers is Aanarsi Reingaard. This hulking 6' 5" RW is the newest San Diego Marlin. He was a phenom growing up alongside his brothers, as the four together ripped through every Greenland hockey league and even some Major Junior leagues in Europe. Aanarsi's combination of size, strength, speed, and scoring is unlike any other prospect coming out of Greenland. He has an incredible one-timed release, frequently fed on the power play by his brothers. His 6' 5" frame and immense strength allow him to go into the corners and grind for loose pucks. When he's not fighting for pucks, he's looking for open space on the ice or backchecking like crazy. He loves to get in shooting lanes and can retrieve the puck and thrive on the rush with his speed and hands. If you give him even a split second of space by himself in the offensive zone with his brothers on the ice, odds are the puck will end up in the back of your net.

San Diego has undeniably become a Founder's Cup Favourite with this signing. The reunification of the Aanarsi and Deitrich on a line together and Lief running the blue line will be a force that's hard to stop with the chemistry between those three. Not to mention the rest of the roster already rounding into peak form. We'll have to wait and see, but San Diego looks poised for a shot at the elusive back-to-back.

I've missed this place! It's been probably two years now since I've been able to be around much at all. Life just got real busy all of a sudden towards the end of my first player's career. When I made my second player I was kind of figuring it would be tough to be around much but I wanted to give it a try. Fortunately things have kinda settled down now and I think I can reasonably commit to being active again.

It's cool to see so many familiar names still around and I appreciate the warm welcome I've already received when I just created my new player a couple of hours ago. Hope you've all been well - this is a great community and I'm definitely looking forward to getting back into it. Right at the start of a new season is kind of a fun time to join and I'm hoping to find my new team soon. Time for my new player to channel his inner Addison McLaren and help bring someone a VHLM championship

San Diego here we come I have lived in the United States my whole life but I have never been to the west coast. I have been picked in the 3rd round of the VHLM entry draft to the San Diego Marlins I think I could have been picked higher than 26th overall. This however gives me a lot of time to prove to those other teams they should have picked me.

Firstly, I would l like to thank Arce for giving me the chance to play in the VHLM and I think the team that he is putting together is a great one and hopefully we can achieve a lot of greatness this season.

I am keen to work with other big names of the VHL to make San Diego a great team and hopefully take us far into the playoffs. But I don’t want to be getting ahead of myself too far the season hasn’t started and the draft still isn’t done at the time of writing this. However I want to be a great player and I think that San Diego should be a great starting block for this.

So when the Marlins take the ice for their first game look out for me on the ice.

Arce reacted to JigglyGumballs in Alright, let's do this one last time.
My name is JigglyGumballs, otherwise known as Jiggs. And I am the one who traded the picks and trusted the process. I joined all the way back in June 2020 and for the past year or so, I have been inactive. But now I'm back. A lot has changed since I was last here, a lot of familiar faces, a lot of new ones. A lot has changed with the league itself. Like wtf I can't believe that trivia is on the portal. Anyways, as a sorta older member coming back to the league, I feel like I should introduce (or reintroduce) myself. And no it's not cuz of le good ol' TPE grind but so I can try and adjust to all the new stuff okay.

So. Over my time in the VHL, I was pretty active when I first joined and subsequently throughout the career of my first player. Who was creatively named Jiggly Gumballs, who would've thought lol. I prided myself in trying to max out my TPE earning every week and amassing 1002 TPE over my first player's career. I also had an active presence on my team LR's. Eventually, I had become the AGM of the Las Vegas Aces of the VHLM, back when @Spartan was GM of the team. I then took over as GM when Spraytan departed, and sorta coined the term TRADE THE PICKS, TRUST THE PROCESS. The reasoning behind that was the mentality we had in the M at the time. To keep an active LR and team, and thus to help recruitment at the time, the goal was to contend as much as possible. Thus the trade the picks, trust the process mentality began. I memed the living shit out of it, along with trading for 6th rounders which was counter-intuitive towards that mentality, and somehow was okay at being a GM in the M. After that period of time, I gradually got busy with life and stepped down. Taking some time off the league before creating my second player, Gruffud Theofylaktos. At this time, I tried becoming active again and milked the loving shit of my return (like I am now lol) when I did come back. I was apparently AGM of Davos for a period of time before I became inactive yet again. Idk why I don't remember that but apparently I was. This time though, I stayed inactive for a whole year.

That leaves us with today. So what's the plan now? What's the goal? So the goal right now is to keep things chill and get myself back into the VHL community. I don't think I'll have the time or motivation to make articles the same way I did prior, so I'll try my best to at least be a welfare player, and occasional full TPE earner. I'm also gonna try and apply for positions again once I get back into the thick of it. It won't be for a while though. I rushed back into the TPE and VHL grind with my second player and subsequently burnt myself out. So instead of doing that, I want to adjust slowly and just get back to talking to y'all. When I feel like I'm ready, I'll apply for open positions again.

So that's that. Me back. Me want to VHL. Thanks to @Zetterberg for convincing me to come back.

With that in mind, there will come a time again where I will trade the picks. And you better be ready to trust the process...

Arce reacted to Brandon in Draft Class | VHL Career Stats
Wanted to throw a suggestion out there that I've been thinking of for a while... Including VHL career stats on the VHL Entry Draft page as a tab.

I've included a few screenshots of what it would look like, essentially just a tab called Career Stats, where if you click it, the data would look like the existing League Overall tab, but it would only include the players from that seasons draft class. Users can sort by games played, goals, points, +/-, hits, etc.

Example of Potential New Draft Page:

VHL Career Stats Page (replace players below with draft class and career stats):

^ numbers would all be way higher

I feel like it would be a really neat addition, given the data is already displayed around the site in various aspects, probably wouldn't take a ton of development effort (developer's most hated words). I'd imagine we'd see some really interesting and insightful Media Spots pop up because of it, going back and really digging into some unique career statistics that stick out in certain draft classes (like who is the most clutch player, or top sniper with shooting %), or just reviewing a draft class in general, either while the class is still active, or after retirement.

The idea spawned from the fact that I'm always checking hockeydb draft classes to see which players performed the best years later. This page could also be further expanded to Career Playoff Stats, although I feel like Regular Season stats are more foundational to everyone.

Arce got a reaction from Brandon in Career Reflection: Ronan Lavelle
It is hard to believe Ronan Lavelle is entering his final season. It seems like just yesterday Lavelle was an S82 prospect awaiting his draft year. Lavelle’s career has been a very fun ride. From “Lavelle sim” after a rocky rookie season, to a Continental Cup, then on to become the scoring leader in the ole whole VHL.

    The Beginning:

Ronan Lavelle entered S83 as a rookie as a member of the DC Dragons. Lavelle was selected 7th overall by DC, and had just won the scoring title for the Geneva Rush of the VHLE. The MVP Trophy then was renamed the Ronan Lavelle Trophy. The expectations were high for the young Dragon. Lavelle started off his career with fire out of the gate. Lavelle would record 2 goals in his first career game. This amazing start would not last however as Lavelle would only find the back of the net 11 more times over the next 71 games and scored 40 total points. Expected for a rookie campaign? Sure. Disappointing to him? Absolutely. To make matters worse, DC got swept 3-0 by their rival Chicago Phoenix. The silver lining is Lavelle scored twice in the series and was a point per game player.

    The S85 Cup:

The S85 season would be a special one for Ronan Lavelle and the DC Dragons. The Dragons themselves weren’t by any means an elite tier team record wise during the regular season. They finished third in the North American Conference with 84 points. Ronan Lavelle had his best season to date with 98 points including 46 goals which led the Dragons in points. Lavelle led everyone in the playoffs with 26 points which won him the playoff MVP honors. This would be Lavelle’s second trophy of an impressive collection as he hoisted the Continental Cup up after sealing the deal against the Moscow Menace in 5 games. Lavelle was thriving in individual hardware as well as the one that means the most. The Dragons were champions, Ronan Lavelle was a champion.

    Back to Back Scoring Titles:

Ronan Lavelle was chasing the high of another Continental Cup. With DC entering the end of its current competitive cycle, Lavelle had a new home in Moscow. Forward to the S88 season, Lavelle has hit another career milestone. Win a scoring title! Lavelle would go on to lead the league in points with 109. Lavelle and linemate Tomas Sogaard who won the goal title took the league by storm. The crazy part? Lavelle would somehow one up himself again in S89. Lavelle won the scoring title by 1 point, finishing with 115 points. This time, Lavelle was the goal scorer. He went on to lead the league in goals with 56. At this point in Lavelle’s career, he has one season left to try to get himself into any kind of Hall of Fame discussions. How will he fair?

The long wait is over at last, one of the longest droughts seen in many years. The San Diego Marlins have won the S89 Founders Cup, the first time since S86. This means they had faced a whole 3 season drought. This span had tortured the poor San Diego fanbase. But still, the fans stayed loyal and they did not lose any season ticket holders. The S89 season was special to this Marlins squad, as it had a special group. Marlins Captain Sjin was the only member of both the S86 and S89 championship rosters. “It was great to finally break through and win it all. It was a huge relief.” Captain Sjin said. “We know the fans have been waiting a long time for this, we are only sorry we couldn’t get it done sooner after S86. Sjin concluded.

The S89 off-season had many question marks surrounding the Marlins after a good S88 run. Only Sjin and Brad Marchand were returning. The Marlins would have to build through the draft despite not having a 2nd round pick. It is difficult to establish a core when you need to find a goaltender and address every other field. The Marlins went with a familiar face, defenseman Marty Byrd who was a critical waiver pickup in S88. It was expected by many, and San Diego was very pleased to get Marty back. Later in the 1st round the Marlins were also able to get fellow waiver hero Baby Moo Moo back! Moo Moo was the best forward for the Marlins in the S88 playoffs. In the 3rd round, Marlins GM Zach Arce got crafty and unconventional. He drafted goaltender Clark which shocked many. San Diego had spoken to Clark quite a few times prior to the draft and decided he was going to be their backbone in S89. The Marlins next selected in round 4 and chose Tyrece the beast to get some scoring help on the offensive front. Another unconventional move? Sure but Tyrece was on the rise at this point. In round 6, the move that really pushed the Marlins to contender status. The Marlins decided to roll some dice and selected forward Savaisk Tzesar who was on the fence of which league he’d play in. One conversation with Arce, and Tzesar was playing down for the Marlins!

The Marlins headed into the season knowing it would be a difficult task with teams like Philadelphia, Houston and Mexico City competing with them. They had FIVE waiver pickups over the course of this incredible run. All of which played a big part of their run. They picked up three defensemen which gave them their 4 defensmen core in Vladimir Kozlov, Factor Lee and Joseph Dubois. They were also joined by forwards Eric White Jr. and Afonya Romanov, both showing very noticeable progress throughout the season.

The Philadelphia Reapers established themselves as the #1 seed of the VHLM early on and got a very sizable led to secure that. San Diego battled all season long with Houston for the #2 seed and it came down to the last two games of the season. The result? The Marlins would finish 3rd overall by ONE point. Brad Marchand carried the team with a tied league lead of 99 points and leading 46 goals for the season. Meanwhile the team was able to rely heavily on goaltender Clark, who had a Devereux like season.

In the playoffs, the Marlins would play a talented Halifax 21st team. It was uncertain who would win this series. The Marlins would take it in 5 games, but in a series much close than that number shows. There were 3 games in the series that could have gone either way. The difference? San Diego had Clark and Halifax didn’t. The Marlins then went on to book their ticket to the Founders Cup final after disposing Ottawa in 5 games as well! San Diego had success against Philadelphia in the regular season. But that means nothing, none of anything that happened during the regular season at this point. Philadelphia was not only the defending champs, they were the top seed. The Marlins were ready. They split both games in Philly 1-1. Games 3 and 4 would set the tone for the series. San Diego took both games! Both games could have gone either way. Clark shut the door. San Diego had the most difficult task now. Winning that final game against this Reapers team. They did it! Kozlov opened up the scoring, then Tyrece struck right after! The door would be closed by Baby Moo Moo. A 3-1 final, a champion was to be crowned! Clark with another stellar performance and this deserving Marlins squad was hoisting the cup. The team all worked so hard. Many players asking for Jody’s e approvals constantly, something every VHLM GM wants to see. The best and worst part? Many of these guys will move to the VHLE next season. Great because Arce has done his job to help players take the next step. Bitter because these players will be so missed. What lies ahead for the S90 Marlins? We will see after another mass team reset and a slew of draft picks!

Arce got a reaction from jacobcarson877 in The San Diego Marlins Are Founders Cup Champions
