  6. Lukas Novacek is a very physical Defender who hits everything that moves and eats pucks for breakfast. Novacek is in his second full season in the VHLM with the Oslo Storm and has hit a wall in his development. He has the build of a stay at home defender but with good passing skills. Novacek is great at moving the puck and that helped to play a large role in the championship season a year ago. Last season he scored a total of 16 goals and 56 assists on the vastly superior Oslo squad. He followed up that strong regular season by potting two goals and 7 assists on the way to a cup title. This year his point totals have dropped in nearly half as the team undergoes a rebuilding year. He has posted a meager 9 goals and 41 assists with all the goals coming on the man advantage. The strength of his game however is on the physical side and he's had an excellent season there. He has been a hitting machine this season improving his hit count by nearly over 100 by the team the season ends. Novacek is by far the leader in hits this season eclipsing the next best player 35. He is third in the league in shot blocks and has more or less posted the same total as a year ago. There are many people in the hockey world don't put any stock into plus minus and Novacek is a fine example as to why many now consider it a nearly useless tool. Last season on a championship calibre squad he posted a nice +23, while this year on the struggling Storm he has been on the ice for many more goals posting a -46. However this plus minus total is not entirely surprising as he is playing on the top pair with Paolo Nano and the team overall is at negative 92 goal differential. Being a physical player, Novacek at times has costed his team as he leads the team in PIMs. Some in the hockey world love guys with high PIMs but with fighting trending down across the hockey universe due to concussion concerns he is probably hurting his team by spending so much time in the sin bin. He hurts his team further when he’s in the box as he is the one the team relies on to kill penalties Oslo has the second highest PIM total and the Second worst PK in the league. This isn't entirely the fault of Novacek but he has been a major factor in the futility of the Storms special teams. Despite his strong physical presence Novacek has hardly improved this season. He had a great start to his VHLM career but his last update was over a month ago and looks destined to finish his career in the VHLM. He started with so much potential having had a job as an updater but that too appears to have fizzled out. Maybe one day ADV will return to push Novacek into the VHL but that seems highly unlikely at this point in time.

  10. 1) We're now a few games into the regular season, what are your thoughts on how your team has done to this point of the season? Its went about how i expected, despite being defending champions this season is more of a rebuild type year so the middle is meeting expectations 2) What are your thoughts on your own performances? Not very good so far. My plus minus is worse than last season where we were dead last but scoring more goals than I thought but less assists 3) What's been your favourite game to this point of the season? Scoring 2 goals against my former team Saskatoon Wild. 4) With the World Juniors being announced to return this season, how excited are you at the prospect of potentially representing your country? I would love to make it but I'm currently the 7th ranked D in Europe. Maybe I can play for the world team as they are short on D. 5) We're currently working on creating a more up to date video tutorial to help people around the site, if there's anything you're currently unclear of or something that took you a while to pick up that you'd like to see mentioned in the tutorial, what would it be? How to claim Special TPE tasks as that was confusing at first. 6) I do a tag for you when I post new press conference questions, would you like that whenever a new point task opportunity arises? Yes, it reminds me that there are TPE opportunities.

  16. Paolo Nano entered completed his first ever training camp last week with Riga Reign after being drafted by the team in the third round, 19th overall. “It was such an honour to be drafted by the reign in the third round. I hope to make the team as soon as possible and will work extremely hard this year to try make that a reality next year. I had a great time at training camp and learned alot.” Nano went through the typical rookie camp process where they teach prospects on how to be a Pro. Players are shown things like how to properly fuel their bodies on game days and how vital it is for players to take care of their bodies. Long gone are the days were players showed up to camp out of shape and used the camp as a way to get their bodies physically ready for the long season ahead. Nano was the first name called by the Oslo Storm in the Season 61 VHLM Draft going 18th overall. “I am very excited to have joined the defending champs. They have proven last season that they are a great franchise and I welcome the chance to defend the title. Teams always want to take out the reigning title holders and that will only help motivate me to bring my A game every single night. I went 19th overall in the VHL draft so things are improving for me " said Nano with a grin. The Storm are the opposite of Nano’s former VHL team the Saskatoon Wild who finished in the basement last year. Nano played a total of 28 games in his short stint with the Wild last year. Its always difficult to join a struggling team midway through the season but Nano made the most of it as it allowed him to get some playing time that he may not have received with a better team. “The constant losing made for a long season for a lot of the guys. I only played 28 games but I am thankful to the Wild for giving me the chance to start my VHLM Career. There are some great guys on that team and I wish them all the best this season when they play the rest of the league but I hope we crush them every game.” said Nano. Nano used the off season to work on his skating and passing ability. “ I know that in today's game you need to be able to skate so that was my main area of focus in the offseason. I feel much quicker than I did at the end of the last season but I still need to improve that area of the game. Nano also spent some time working on his offensive ability. “My goal this season is to become more involved in the attack. Last year I only scored one goal and although I look to pass more than shoot, that's something that I need to work on if I want to be getting minutes on the Power Play. My goal this season is to try and develop a better shot from the point so that I can open up more space for my teammates as the forwards won't be able to collapse down low knowing that I can’t shoot at all. The new season is finally here and it will be interesting to follow the progress of Nano as he begins his first full season as a professional hockey player.
