First, try updating graphics drivers first. Also, try opening Photoshop, hit escape then press Ctrl+Shift+S or Cmd+Shift+S. Sometimes this resets things and fixes issues.

Helvetica/Arial. Find a free download somewhere with all of the Helvetica and your computer probably came with Arial weights. For example, the following is all Arial. After you start to learn how to manipulate text, you can start getting creative with the fonts. But for now, your main goal should be to use simple fonts, and use layer styles and other forms of effects to make stuff look good.

Arial Black. All caps and italics on, and about -75 spacing.

Do you mean just how the text is aligned to the left? Or would you rather them aligned to the left but cropped?
