In a move which may have surprised some, some maybe not so much, the previous GM had stepped down due to conflicting personal matters. A little while later and earlier on today, it was officially announced that Blake Campbell will be taking over as the Head GM of the Bratislava Watchmen. Shortly after the announcement, Mr. Campbell was available to answer some Q's and announced a brief statement.
Firstly, I'd like to thank the league for giving me these tremendous opportunity. When I was approached about the position the other evening, my initial response to the commissioner was absolutely. Honestly, was a cool f*cking feeling it was to see my name in green and to now be apart of the Watchmen's Locker Room. I have a lot of plans for this organization, a lot of hopes and goals. Most would say dreams but often dreams can be unattainable. I truly hope that I am able to bring a high level of success to the Watchmen's organization.
Blake Campbell has been busy the last while in his fairly short, yet already successful career within the VHLM and VHL. Seasons ago, he went from a very low-played backup to a Founder's Cup winning starter with the Brampton Blades. He has officially become the starter for the Stockholm Vikings as of the start of S44. Among those mentions, he was hired on by Oslo as a CO for a short while (although did pretty much nothing) and is currently the Head GM of Team USA who are now fighting for a Gold Medal in the upcoming games. When asked how all this has felt to him, this was his response:
It feels good to get recognition for placing a fair amount of effort into the league. I don't want to come off as cocky, but I am confident I am the right guy for this position at this current time. I'm not saying there wasn't other deserving candidates, but that the league did not make a right choice. Hopefully I am able to show them they were right too.
And for the most brief moment, he commented on his stance with the team and what's to come in the future.
Obviously, I'm new to Bratislava and am not the type of guy to make quick decisions or moves just for the sakes of doing such things. I'm currently in the process of looking at the roster, getting a feel for the LR and the boys and determine what's in store for us. Just because the start of this season's story has been written doesn't mean you can't change bits and pieces to create a different ending. As for a CO-GM, that's obviously undecided too. Do I want one? I'm not sure. The support would be nice and I feel it would add much more strength to our management potentially, as well as team. This is something I will consider over the next while and make a decision as soon as I come up with something.
