  1. Hockey Sense – Scouts have said that Dawson really knows how to play bounces. His intelligence when it comes to deflections and direction of the puck off the boards is a hard thing to teach. His ability to read a play also comes in handy when trying to spring one of his teammates for a breakaway. Being a former defenseman he has the knowledge of when to rush in and pressure an opponent. Size – Although he is a big guy, he doesn't go around hitting like some mad man. He does however use his large frame to shield off defenders and drive to the net. One of his biggest assets is his ability to command space in front of the net. His size allows him to stand without bother for the majority of play in the offensive zone. Passing – Dawson used to lead breakouts from the backend as a defender. Now he leads them from his own face-off circle and springs his wingers. His ability to see cross ice passing lanes is unmatched and his perfect placement on said passes is incredible. He is a great power play specialist for that reason and that reason only. Cautiousness – At times it appears Dawson is timid and backs away from scoring opportunities. After his change to center he hasn't quite learned to rush the net, but it will hinder him in the future if he can’t change his mindset. In order to command a physical game he does have to have some energy to do so, but it seems he backs away from some potential hits so that he isn't caught out of position. Not necessarily a bad thing, but something he needs to work on. Powerplay – Most teams demand that their center be great at face-offs if he wants to be a powerplay genius. Dawson has great passing sense but his face-offs need some help. It's that reason that he is either on the second unit of the powerplay or not on it at all. Focus – Like many young players, Dawson loses focus a lot. He needs to keep his head in the game and fight for space. At times it appears his head is in the clouds and he isn't really even out there on the ice mentally even if he is there physically. Dawson needs to adapt to the culture and make it known that he is there to stay and he is a force to be reckoned with. NHL Comparison: Brian Boyle
  2. Lewis Dawson Center Mexico City Kings 6"4' 207 lbs Lewis Dawson is a bulking forward who spent his junior days with the Ottawa 67's. His ability to see the open ice and hit his wingers with breakout passes make him a dangerous threat from his own end of the ice. Dawson has a big frame and uses his size to his advantage when shielding off opposing players but ins't going to break the glass with his hits or anything. His passing ability makes him a threat, but his vision is a real advantage for teams because its like having an extra coach on the ice. His leadership skills are high as he tends to bring the best out in his line mates. The career he played out in Ottawa didn't go as he or the franchise planned, as he spent two season there and has four playoff losses to show for it. That being said, Dawson was starting to hit his stride before coming over into the VHLM. One of the finer points of his career has been his ability to pick up signals from management and change his game to help him on the ice. The off-season after his first season with eh 67's was one of the best off-seasons that any junior player had that year. He trained hard, was on the ice everyday (except Sundays) and worked out with professional players from the Ottawa Senators who had a joint mentorship program with the 67's junior teams. Dawson became somewhat of an X-factor for the 67's in his second season and it resulted in more ice time and more chances to succeed. The one craziest stat about Dawson has nothing to do with his on ice play or gym trainings but just the simple fact that he is from the country of Greenland. Greenland has produced zero hockey players for the professional leagues across North America, so Dawson's odds are definitely not in his favour. That being said, he considers himself a Canadian because of the time he has spent honing his craft in Newfoundland and being apart of the minor hockey system in Canada. Greenland isn't even a country that has a hockey federation recognized by the International Ice Hockey Federation. Dawson is looking to make history, but also to catch on with a Victory Hockey League club in the future. It's a big change for Dawson to go from Greenland to Mexico in the matter of a couple months. His time in the VHLM will be summed up with hopefully things more hot than just the weather down there.
  3. Player Name: Lewis Dawson Previous Club: Ottawa 67's Position: Center Handedness: Left Height: 6.04 Weight: 207 lbs Age: 18 Citizenship: Greenlandic Born in Greenland, Lewis Dawson didn't have what some would call a "hockey background" or family roots in the game. In fact Dawson came from a small town in southern Greenland that is known more for its icebergs than it is for producing hockey talent. Most young natives of Greenland's families dream of someday going to bigger land masses or becoming well known fisherman. There was something different about Dawson however, and it turned out to be his passion for sports. Dawson was easily interested in the game of hockey from the day he put on his skates as a six-year old. Being from Greenland, the Dawson's parents were interested in sending their three young boys to a high educational school within Canada when they became of age. Lewis told his parents when he was young he would be the next big hockey star and they supported him in that decision. The Dawson's enrolled their three young boys in local hockey programs that were very scarce in Greenland. Along with the hockey programs they also had to focus on the fact the country barely has 50,000 people in it so the competition will be slim. All three of the boys played hockey until they were ten, Lewis was the only one to keep playing past that age. His older brother continued with his music career and is now a well known folk singer at the age of 26 in Greenland. Lewis would stay in the same program he started in when he was 9 years old and it would pay dividends. Lewis was a defenseman who had great wheels, positioning was never an issue from a young age. His coaches had an issue though, no one ever wanted to play up front down the middle because they felt their best chances of scorer were being wingers. Lewis stepped up and told coaches he wouldn't mind playing as a center until they find someone who enjoys it. Lewis didn't realize that he would be that guy who enjoyed it so much, thus he would remain a center to this day. It would end up resulting in some Canadian minor hockey scouts taking a hard look at the youngster. Dawson back home in Greenland during an offseason Dawson got noticed so much that a youth team in Newfoundland named the Maritimers asked him to join their squad. Dawson spent his whole career in Newfoundland and eventually had his family move there to help assist him in the transition. During his tenure in the Maritimers system he became known as the back checking brute. He was a tall kid from an early age and his height made it easy to recognize him on the ice. Dawson's name was heating up and even more people were starting to notice. From when he started as a 12 year old to when he left as a 16 year old, Lewis saw over 20 different Canadian Junior Hockey scouts take a look at him. After four years where he ended up with the most assists in Maritimers history, he was drafted into the OHL by the Ottawa 67's franchise. Before leaving Newfoundland he was honoured by local fans when they raised his number to the rafters at the local Community Arena. After bringing home the East Youth cup twice in his time with the Maritimers he was going to Ontario to pursue his ultimate dream. His parents were happy to have a son want something other than their vision and actually succeed at it. In his first year with the 67's, Dawson would only see action in 43 games as a 16 year old player. His ability to read the ice was evident but his lack of positioning was a struggle. His upbringing in Greenland saw competition which wasn't all that high, scouts started to notice little issues in his game. His confidence was high being that he was one of only a handful of Greenlandic players to ever play in the OHL, but his hockey sense wasn't quite where scouts dreamed it would be. Nonetheless he competed at a high level and tried his hard to learn every aspect of the game he grew to love. He was able to turn that into 6 goals and 12 assists in his first campaign with the Ottawa franchise. Season 1 (Reg. Season): 43 GP, 6 Goals, 12 Assists, 18 Points, +2, 45 Hits and 13 PIM After Ottawa failed to make the postseason in his first season, Dawson vowed to train super hard in the offseason to give himself a bit more of an edge going into his season full season with the 67's. This season would turn into a more positive experience as Dawson had a bit more experience with the league and his surroundings. His 21 Goals and 18 Assists were jumping out at scouts as he had the knack for scoring, but wasn't used in key situations. Dawson was mainly a third line centre who was great in his own end but chipped in offensively when he got the chance. He played a full season without being a scratch or an injured roster spot. Ottawa made the postseason to add to the good news for Dawson's game. Unfortunately the 67's were swept in the first round by the Sault St. Marie Greyhounds. Dawson did have a somewhat profitable series though as his 2 Goals and 3 Assists were good for third on the team in postseason scoring. Season 2 (Reg. Season): 68 GP, 21 Goals, 18 Assists, 39 Points, +17, 59 Hits and 34 PIM Season 2 (Playoffs): 4 GP, 2 Goals, 3 Assists, 5 Points, -2, 12 Hits and 5 PIM Dawson brings an energy to the game and one that is felt in both ends of the ice it seems. Mexico City is now where he calls home for this season and they are hoping he can bring a strong two way game to their arena soon enough here.

  5. Mexico City has been a fun time so far for youngster Lewis Dawson. Dawson has quietly been a steady player in the VHLM thus far. Dawson has 8 points in his first 10 games and is trying to keep pace with his teammates. It's hard when one of your teammates has 27 points in those same 10 games. Dawson has been very happy with his defensive play though as his +10 rating has been a very welcomed sign for the club. If Dawson can compete and bring that strong two-way game to the rink every night, he will be a force in the future. His offensive game will come to him in time and he isn't too concerned about that end of the ice. If he isn't a liability upfront, than he is happy; if he was a liability in his own end though; that would be a huge problem for both him, his coach, teammates and the entire organization moving forward.
  6. 3. My personal goal is to assist on 50 goals. I want to be a setup man 4. I think our team is stacked and we will run the table. 5. Mostly filled with tracks from Foo Fighters or course! 6. I model my game after Marc Savard but with more size. 8. I think I will probably go late in the first round to some team 10. My biggest strength is my touch passes and ability to give long range passes

  10. A little tipsy!
  11. 1. Well my performance this last season got me a job with Mexico City so I'm stoked! 2. My skating and touch around the net. 3. This will be my first season with Mexico City and in the VHLM as a whole. 4. I'm going to be with Mexico City and they seemed out my player so I'm excited about that. 5. I'm hoping that I get drafted to a place who wants to build around a premier scorer and set-up man. 6. My strength, as I am a big guy I don't actually have a lot of power right now. 7. My skating so far is my top quality and for a big man it's essential. 8. Size and offensive awareness. 9. I want to be a kind of player that Lindros was but without the concussion history. 10. I look up to anyone who wore a jersey as I want to be a pro someday as well.
  12. Lewis Dawson has submitted the paperwork and is now a prospect vying to be drafted in a future VHL Draft. Recently he accepted an offer to go play in Mexico City where hockey is not the most prevalent sport. That being said, they already are crazy for hockey down in the heart of Mexico. Plus for all the players who are getting a few days break, they can hit the beach to relax. A little vacation spot for the players was something that jumped out at Dawson when deciding on where he would play. That being said, Lewis is totally focused on advancing his career in hockey by boosting his draft stock and becoming a premier centerman in the VHL. Only time and effort will show us what Lewis is made of and if he has the work ethic to actually get something done. First stop is the Mexico City AirPort where he is expected to be picked up by his new teammates and management.
  13. I accept this. I would love to join your squad
  14. Yeah after awhile it got kind of boring seeing my guy as the third leading defensemen on Helsinki (wasn't their fault, just the way my build was I think)
  15. Yes the portal did say I wouldn't play this year but yet the board does say I could retire today, hoping that's true?
