  3. "Im here with Elias Dahlberg at the VHLM pre-draft party. So Elias, what are your thoughts on the VHLM so far" "Well, the VHLM seems like a great place to learn, practice, and grow so that I can be a stud in the VHL. All of the people and GM's I have met so far have been very friendly and I really like it here." "Why were you so successful in Allsvenskan" "Uhm, I don't really know. I guess I just went out there and played hockey. It was a team effort though, I didn't do it all by myself like some people think. The whole season I was just focusing on getting better, skating better, and playing better defensively." "Rumor is that the Ottawa Lynx are looking at picking you, do you want to play for them" "I would love to play for them, their AGM reached out to me and we had a nice conversation, very friendly guy." "Would you play for any team" "Yes, I will play for anyone, I want to prove myself in this more challenging league and I will be thankful for whoever gives me a chance" "What do you think your biggest strength is" "I would say my biggest strength is my defensive game, I spent a lot of my time with my Dad who played defense in the SHL. He taught me where to position and where to put my stick, I am ever thankful for his help. "Well Elias, thats it for our interview, anything else you'd like to say?" "If you don't pick me the puck will be in the back of your net *chuckles*" "Good Luck in your career Elias" "Thanks"

  5. Elias Dahlberg is an up and coming prospect in the VHL and star for MODO in Allsvenskan, but where did it all start. Early Years Elias Jonathen Dahlberg was born on May 23, 1999 in Sundsvall, Sweden. His mother, Johanne Alice Dahlberg was an architect just starting work for a Construction company in Sweden. She didn't make much, but still tried to support Elias. His father Patrik Lars Dahlberg was playing in the SHL for MODO as a defenseman. He was usually on the road, and thus Elias didn't spend much time with him. During off seasons Patrik would help teach his son how to play hockey, and Elias loved it more than anything in the world. He learned to skate 3 days after he learned to walk, and every day he would go home, do homework, then play hockey by himself or with his friends until bedtime. Elias only got better as he played. Elias loved the sport so much that he would beg to go with his father, and watch him play to learn and get better. His mother didn't know much about hockey even though her husband was a professional, but she supported Elias and brought him to practices and games, learning the sport and always the loudest mother in the stands (Elias got embarrassed). Novice Hockey Elias started playing competitive hockey when he was 5. He joined the Northwest HC in Sundsvall, playing against other 5-6 year olds. The first position he played was defense, just like his father. Over his first season he started dominating, putting up atleast one point every game he played. He had always tried his hardest, but his first rule to himself was always have fun. If he didn't have fun then he didn't think it was worth it. The next season Elias dominated even more, showcasing a skill set higher than most 6 year olds, even higher than most 9 year olds. His coaches and parents knew that he would be a special hockey player. That season Elias put up 70 points in his 30 game season. After he graduated from that league it was known to all that he would be a star. He started training harder and was able to join a U9 Travel Team -- Sundsvall Warriors. Elias and his team traveled to different towns and cities around Sweden, and Elias looked like he didn't belong there. He didn't put up the insane numbers that he did in U7. That season his team came second last, and Elias only put up 7 points in 50 games. That offseason his coach - Coach Andersson suggested he try forward in a rec league over the summer. Elias took the suggestion, and in his rec league he put up 25 points in 10 games. He liked forward more than defense, and started learning how to play forward. The next season he tried out for the team again, getting the spot easily. He quickly rose back up to his hype, and dominated as a forward. He found his role and succeeded at it, putting up 75 points in 50 games, and leading the league in goals with 43. Elias kept putting on shows, leading leagues in points and goals all the way to U14. In U14 Elias struggled more, he was a late bloomer and while everyone else shot up around him he stayed the same height. Being 6 inches shorter than everyone else wasn't good, he got crushed almost every game his first U14 season and had to learn to skate better to avoid being hit. It was at this age that he improved his defensive game. His dad taught him how to position, where to put your stick, and how to block shots and take away lanes. His defensive game grew a lot and he was on his way to becoming a true 2 way forward. Personal Tragedy and Home Life It was at 13 years old that Elias' mother passed away. She got diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer and tragically passed away 6 months later. Leaving just Elias and his Father. Elias' Father retired from the SHL that season and started up his own Financial Advising business. His father became very busy, trying to support Elias and himself. Elias was saddened and affected on the ice and off the ice by his mother's passing. What once was a straight 90 student turned into a straight 70 student. Elias struggled with depression and was very hard on himself during that time. He lost all of his motivation, and lost all of his friends. After taking a month long break from hockey, Elias' dad suggested he get back on the ice and start playing again. The moment Elias stepped back on the ice he had suddenly changed, and every goal he scored, assist he made, or shot blocked he did for his mom. His dad took a month off work to help Elias get back into his normal self, and they had some quality bonding time. Elias' whole world had been shaken up, flipped upside down, and then partially flipped back. Allsvenskan Seasons When Elias was fifteen he signed a 3 year contract with MODO Hockey, located in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden. Elias moved in with a billet family, and played two season for MODO. His first year as a forward he got checked in the knee and missed 20 games. He still dominated in that league, bringing MODO to the playoffs, something they hadn't seen in years. He ended that season with 60 points in 30 games, leading the league in points and goals. He brought home a lot of hardware, including MVP, Best Forward, Best Defensive Forward, Most Goals, and Most Points. Everyone noticed him that seasons, and had high expectations for the next. Elias smashed those high expectations, putting up up 80 points, 40 goals, and 40 assists in 50 games, leading MODO to their first of back to back titles. He once again won the same awards, smashing the U18 and U20 scoring record. In his last season he once again put up 80 points, and brought MODO to their second Allsvenskan title, and a promotion to the SHL. During his second and third seasons he had many lucrative offers from SHL teams looking to add an elite talent to their team, but Elias refused. He was and would be loyal to his friends and coaches in MODO, and wanted them to succeed since they gave him a chance. Whats Next Whats next for this Swedish Sensation, he has hopes of joining the VHL and smashing records there, but until then he will continue to have fun, train, and enjoy hockey. Coming into the next VHLM draft he seems to be a definite pick up that any team would love to have. What team could say no to a goal scoring, high talent, and defensive player who can body people and skate well. He looks to be a top 10 pick, but he doesn't care where he goes, he just wants to have fun playing hockey.

  7. Elias Dahlberg Age: 19 Position: Left Wing Height: 6'3 Weight: 196 Hometown: Sundsvall, Sweden NHL Comparison: Pierre Luc-Dubois Elias Dahlberg is a Swedish Phenom playing for MODO of the Allsvenskan league. Putting up 40 goals and 20 assists for a total of 60 points in his first season there is no doubt that this guy can score. He uses his size and skating to get the puck in the net. He is a very shy guy, but it comes out of him whenever he scores. Every goal to him is his first ever. He is a loyal player, always looking out for his teammates who he cares about, and isn't afraid to be physical in order to protect them Strengths: Skating: Elias is a big guy at 6'3 196 pounds, but don't let that fool you. He is one of the best skaters at his size, and one of the best in Allsvenskan. He can get around almost anyone, even without a shifty move. Defense: Elias plays a strong defensive game, always having his stick and body in the right place. He isn't afraid to block shots and take on for the team. He can play the shorthanded minutes, and is a great addition to any teams PK. He is a takeaway master, using his body and space to cause turnovers, and isn't afraid to skate with the puck on the PK, knowing he can get by most players. Size: Size is an important part of hockey and Elias knows how to use his. Always causing turnovers with his size, he can also use it to his advantage when skating into the offensive zone, protecting the puck, and battling for it in corners. Weaknesses: Physicality: Elias isn't scared to be physical, but he isn't very good at being physical. Someone of his size you would expect to give out crushing blows, but Elias is the exception. He needs to work on his physical game if he wants to be successful in the VHL Puck Handling: Good hands are one of the best tools and scorer can have, and Elias doesn't have them. He doesn't use shifty moves to get around players, always using his size and speed to go through or around them. But adding even one or two dekes to his scoring arsenal would do wonders for him Shot Accuracy: Elias couldn't hit the broad side of a barn from 10 feet away. Something just hasn't clicked for him on how to shoot in a certain area, most of the time he just blasts one and hope it hits the net. Most of his goals aren't from shots. If he shoots from over 20 feet away it has a higher chance of going into the stands then into the net. To score the 30 goals he put up last season he mostly crashed the net, or tucked it in on a breakaway. Quotes: Elias is one of the best players I have seen play, and coached. He brings a lot to the table with his skating and defensive skills. He is very raw right now, but definitely has the talent to succeed in the VHL" - Born Hellkvist, MODO Head Coach Elias is an excellent player and scorer. One of my best friends in the locker room, and always the best player on the ice. He is a very good skater, and always looking out for us. Hopefully he has success wherever he goes." - Sam Marklund, Elias' Teammate Career Stats: GP: 120 Points: 220 Goals: 150 Assists: 70 PIM: 46 SHG: 9 PPG: 39 PPP: 52
