  2. 1. Thank you! One of my favorite times for any sim league is always the draft, I'm looking forward to talking to scouts and the excitement of the uncertainty of it all. I'm also looking forward to growing my player and hopefully becoming a top goal scorer. Lastly, I would definitely say I'm a huge fan of international hockey, and I picked Sweden so that I could end up on Team Scandinavia, so playing for them would be awesome! 2. I was picked up by the Ottawa Lynx, and I'm not worried at all about the standings. Their manager, diamond_ace, is in a few of my other sim leagues, and McWolf and I know each other from PBE, so it was a perfect fit. I think we have a chance to turn things around and to bond. We can forge a new reputation for the team! As for the pros, I haven't looked much yet, but I tend to love Canadian teams, so definitely want to end up somewhere in Canada as long as their management is cool. I'm in 3 hockey leagues and only 1 of my pro teams is an American team (ironically the one I'm a GM of). 3. My player likes to re-tape his stick every game, because it helps it to feel like a new game and a fresh start. He does a lot of shooting drills in practice and drinks Gatorade to stay hydrated. Some players are very chatty before the game, but Pat Svoboda likes to be in his own private world, undisturbed, like most goalies. He is focused on the game, and keeping silence, barring instructions from his coaches, is the best way to do that. 4. My username doesn't give that away at all! Steven Stamkos is my hero and my childhood idol, I grew up watching him score 50 goals, and he really got a lot of people in Tampa into the game. His shot is absolutely wicked, nobody has an aim as good as Stammer. He changed our franchise, and he chose to stay here and make Tampa his home for his career. He is charming off the ice and a great leader, perfect captain material. He's an amazing player, and he's great with the fans too! 5. My hometown team, the Tampa Bay Lightning, are my favorites. Amalie Arena has to be one of, if not the, best arena in the league, complete with a pipe organ playing live music, the largest permanently installed Tesla coils in the world, and the largest jumbotron screen indoors in North America. Jeff Vinik and Steve Yzerman have made the fan experience and the team one to be revered and looked up to, and the Lightning fever has reached an all-time high here. You can't walk around anywhere in Tampa without spotting someone in a Lightning shirt within a few minutes! First in the East! 6. I didn't want to be a center, because there is so much TPE that you have to allocate to Faceoffs that wouldn't go to Scoring. I personally am right-handed, and so is my hero Stamkos, so I picked the handedness, and being a righty, it was obvious he should be a right winger. Why not Defense you ask? I'm obsessed with goals and scoring, so it was definitely going to be a forward. One more thing to consider in being a right wing, Nikita Kucherov, my second favorite star, is a right wing, so it's definitely a cool position, and I find more great goal scorers on the right than the left (Patrik Laine, Patrick Kane, Vladimir Tarasenko, Andrei Svechnikov). Well, Kane is more of a playmaker, but he's still awesome so he's on that list.
  3. Thanks for the great questions guys, I'll answer 6 per week in order of oldest to newest
  4. Review: Starting as a soccer player is definitely an interesting storyline. Hilarious that his dad got into hockey because of the fights, there’s hope for him ever yet! Sounds like while he had reservations, he was supportive and persuaded him to put the work in. Him not making the team is reminiscent of Michael Jordan not making his high school basketball team. This was a great read, I got pretty immersed in his world. Awesome bio!
  5. Review: I love people who create their players for countries that are out of the mainstream, it really distinguishes you. Very young for sure and with a lot to prove! Great story of being a football star instead of a hockey stud, another unique plotline. I love your creativity and how you stayed focused entirely on his life rather than what’s going on now with his career, you followed the prompt perfectly. Love that you want to play internationally too, national teams are the best! Nice work!
  6. Review: It was a cool idea for his father to be military and stationed in Germany, gives him North American ties. I wouldn’t really call hockey an American sport though, it’s played all over the world! I can definitely see a player who was a bit nonchalant regarding classes and just wanted to play hockey, pretty realistic storyline. So many guys from Europe talk about the SHL, KHL, or Liiga, so glad to see you picked the league of his country, the DEL. A few grammatical errors but nothing major. Well done!
  7. Review: This was a very interesting article, and it’s great to see that your player is from the UK, where in real life, the sport has been really growing and we are getting some guys getting draft in the NHL (Brendan Perlini, Liam Kirk). The moving from place to place storyline is always interesting; as I know personally, switching schools multiple times at a young age is hard. Everyone loves their parents, but him prioritizing his girlfriend is pretty unique. A little hockey focused for a biography, but the team reviews were, again, unique and interesting, so it’s fine by me. Nice job!
  8. Sweet, that's good to hear! Nothing like a well-oiled machine on the PP
  9. Name: Pat Svoboda Age: 25 Height: 6’5’’ Weight: 230 lbs Birthplace: Stockholm, Sweden Strengths Scoring is what Pat Svoboda primarily excels at. He is the definition of a volume shooter, and has a hard, accurate shot to go with the shots total. He's never shy to take the shot and to just throw the puck on goal, so oftentimes he catches goalies sleeping. He has a laser of a one-timer on the power play, and he can find the back of the net from any angle. His backhander is as elite as they come; he can slip the puck into the top corner of the goal with ridiculous ease, as if he was on his forehand. This slick backhand is a rarity in the league, and can be very deceptive for opposing netminders trying to decipher what he will do. Skating is important in today's speed-based hockey, and in spite of being a massive player, Svoboda has an excellent first step and accelerates to full speed in a matter of seconds. Defenseman expect him to be a lumbering giant, but are surprised when he turns on the jets and breezes past them. This element of surprise is usually how he gets breakaways, and he is deadly at converting on those. His fluid strides look graceful and effortless, and he can beat the majority of his peers in puck races: a helpful feat on the defensive side of the game. Strength is something Svoboda is superior to most others in merely because of his greater weight and stature, and it helps him on both ends of the ice. He uses his size to push skaters off the puck, and if he is tired at the end of his shift, rather than leaning on speed, he can merely force his way through defenders, literally. He is difficult to check or to strip the puck away from, and even the most physical players are leery of hitting him due to fear of retribution from the massive Swede. Weaknesses Passing is not one of Svoboda's favorite aspects of the game, and he has earned a reputation from former linemates as a "puck hog." He loves to shoot the puck from anywhere and everywhere, so he can be hesitant to defer to teammates, even when multiple defenders are covering him and/or his fellow skaters are open. When he does give a feed up ice from his own zone, sometimes he makes an errant pass, which has led to bad turnovers. With proper coaching and more pressure to be unselfish, this should be something that can be overcome. Checking is rarely used by Svoboda, in spite of his massive size; unless he is dealt a hit first, he will use poke checks and positioning as a means of defense. Perhaps when players are zipping up the boards, they need to be hammered into their own bench, but even in the proper situations, he does not like to play a physical game. He racks up a marginal number of hits, and uses his size as a means of extending his reach instead of invoking fear into opposing benches. Faceoffs are not something that Svoboda has spent any time on, having never been a center in his career. On the rare occasion he is forced to take a faceoff, he usually does not perform too well. If teams are looking for a potential center, they won't find it in the young Swede. As long as he sticks at right wing and his team doesn't pull a Jonathan Drouin-type move, it should not be much of a problem. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Conclusion: To all the hockey fans who scream "SHOOT THE PUCK!" in frustration on the power play as their stars make twenty cute passes, they will be instantly enamored with Pat Svoboda. As a volume shooter, he likens himself to Alex Ovechkin and plans to light the lamp as much as possible. He is the type of player every team dreams of to lurk on the wings on a power play unit, and should bring on goals galore.
  10. Pat Svoboda signed with the Ottawa Lynx, a mystifying decision to some onlookers, as he reportedly had interest from teams that were higher in the standings. But it has come to light that Svoboda knows the GM of Ottawa from another league, the BESL, and preferred familiarity to joining a top competitor. He also, reportedly, knew one of Ottawa's players from a baseball league known as the PBE. His contract terms were 1 year for 1.5 million, and he will be eligible for the S64 draft. His agent is known as a monster TPE earner in many sim leagues, specifically the SHL, the GOMHL, the NSFL, the PBE, and the SBA. "I'm very excited to be joining Ottawa! My top priority is not winning, but rather playing a big role on a team that needs me, with people I know. I'm humbled to be given interest by other teams and felt pretty bad saying no, but at the end of the day, I knew I had to pick one. This was the right choice for me and my career," said Pat Svoboda. Svoboda, a Swedish goal scorer, has already buffed his goal scoring to 59, and sources say that he declared interest in bumping it to 80 as quickly as possible. He is also looking into completely his rookie profile and biography as soon as possible to get a quick 18 TPE. With 15 TPE added in the span of 24 hours, Svoboda will start on Line 2 for the Ottawa Lynx and likely will play on one of the power play units. He also says he wants to play in international hockey tournaments soon, and hopes that Sweden will need him. "I love my country, and international play is very fun and rewarding, especially if you can beat the big names like USA and Canada. Sweden is always the underdogs, but we're a good team; the world's best defensemen come from here, and you know it's true. I think we're the most underrated team, and I'd love to get a shot to join Team Scandinavia and bring home a gold medal!" said Pat Svoboda. "I'm going to try to prove that I have what it takes to score and be a factor on the ice in Ottawa. I'm going to make my the international federation heads take notice of me."

  13. 1) The season has kicked off now, how do you feel about your team's performance to this point of the season? Well, we are last in the standings, so we aren’t doing too great. But the season isn’t over yet, so we still have time to turn it around. Winning isn’t everything, I know our GM from BESL, so the connection is what’s important. Next year will be better, especially if I can get into gear and up our scoring quick. 2) What would you say has been your best performance in a game so far this season? I haven’t appeared in a game yet, but I’ll get in the lineup soon and try to make a good first impression! I think I’ve done well in drills; I’m fast and I have a vicious shot. I have a big frame too, so I’m not easy to push off the puck! Hopefully I can get a goal in my first game, that’s the hope. 3) For some of you this will have been your first week of experience with the sim, what are your thoughts on the sim engine thus far? STHS is used a lot of places, so you learn the nuances. It’s easy to build a successful player and to see the fruits of your labor in the box score, as quickly or as detailed as you like. I love the scoring function here, I’m ready to bring on the goals! 4) If you could bring in a brand new point task for the VHL, what would it be? 5) The World Juniors cup will be happening in the near future, how likely do you think you'll be to representing your country? I don’t know, in SHL there’s room for rookies on all teams not called USA, Canada, and Russia, so as a Swede, I hope I have a chance. I love international play and I would love to win a Team Scandinavia gold here too! I’m interested so we will see. I don’t have much experience so I understand if not. 6) Of all the logos in the VHLM, which one would you consider your favourite and why? The Ottawa Lynx are my favorite because they are my team! I’m proud to sport their logo, it looks like the Panthers but better! I like the black color scheme of the jerseys too, goes well with the beige logo!
