Righting the Ship in Halifax The Halifax 21st are on quite the run as of late… but not the run you might expect. In the middle of a full-on losing streak, the team has struggled to find a way to turn things around. With some new players coming into the fold, it seems that the team has struggled to find some chemistry and are scrambling to try and get things back on track. But it appears as though some players aren’t keeping quiet during this losing streak, airing their frustrations publicly. One of those players is newcomer to the team, Cash Wheeler. Cash Wheeler, the young 18 year old Canadian, was quite blunt during a team press conference earlier in the week about wanting to be the best player on the team, and within the entire VHL down the line, but his stats so far have been less-than-stellar, and some have begun to say that he might be in his own head, and not able to live up to his self-proclaimed hype. Wheeler has been deemed as arrogant by some insiders on the team, and not very approachable. He walks around with a swagger, but one that he has not quite earned. So let’s take a look at Wheeler’s play throughout his first games with Halifax. Upon receiving a contract offer, Wheeler was promised Top-6 minutes. A natural RW, he felt as though he’d be a great fit on the team and able to contribute. But here we are, 6 games in to Wheeler’s VHLM career and he’s put up solely 1 Assist, and is a -6. Not quite the start he expected, right? When we reached out to Wheeler for a comment, here’s what he had to say: “Here we go… The criticism starts already, eh? That didn’t take long… Look, what do you expect? I get my contract offer; they’re offering me top-6 minutes. And what? I’m averaging 10-12 minutes a game. I get it, I’m the new kid on the block. I gotta’ earn my stripes, and all that jazz… but **** just give me some ice time, and I guarantee I’ll be burying pucks in the net. I hate losing. Cash Wheeler is not a loser. I’m a born winner. I want to get this team back on track as much as all the other guys in that locker room. The bounces aren’t going our way. I’m not the coach here; I don’t make the lineup decisions. All I’m saying is that I hope going forward I get the chance to really show what I’m capable of out there. The losing streak stops, and it stops now.” Visibly upset… Visibly agitated. I think that’s the mindset of many of the players on the Halifax 21st at this point, and all are wanting to right the ship and put an end to this losing streak. But the longer this goes on, the more frustrated they will become. Are they able to get out of their own heads, and start delivering? Only time will tell, but the next few games here are going to be key on how the remainder of their season is going to go. As for Cash Wheeler, can he start backing up all his hype with his play on the ice? We’ll soon find out… Word Count: 552 Words

1. Well, I've recently joined the team and I'm still trying to get to know all the boys. They've all been chill so far, but can't really say I have a favorite teammate as of yet. I'm still trying to get my feet wet and prove myself, so ask me this question again in a couple of weeks and I'll get back to you. Jet Pou is a sick name though. This guy ****'s for sure. 2. My goals? That's simple. I'm cash money, baby. I wanna' be the team leader in points, goals, assists... you name it. And it's only a matter of time before that happens. From there, I'm gonna' make my way to the VHL and be the future of this league. Remember the name Cash Wheeler, you'll be hearing of me for years to come I guarantee you that. 3. ... Who cares? I'm gonna be the MVP of every game I play in, night in and night out. People shouldn't be talking about anyone other than Cash Wheeler. Listen, I get it. People aren't going to like my answers. Is it going to ruffle a little feathers? Piss off some of the other players? I hope it does. I didn't come here to be a loser. I'm here to be a winner. To quote the great Ricky Bobby; "If you ain't first, you're last". 4. Limousine ridin', jet flyin', kiss stealin', wheelin' dealin'... BAYBAY. 5. Graphics/Media spots would be a go-to. 6. Carb-up. Mom's always made a killer pasta, and that's key for me going out and crushin' it on the ice.

posted March 22nd 2014 Source - Sportsnet.ca What’s that they say about those with sour grapes? Some should ask newest VHLM Rookie Aaron Hartley who has made his VHLM debut this past week, slotting into the line-up after being picked up off of waivers by the Bern Royals. Hartley has been quiet in his first couple of games, playing on the 3rd forward line and has yet to register a point. And from the impression we are getting from the young rookie, it doesn’t seem as though he is too happy about his progress. Hartley talked a big game before making his debut with the Royals, but those who listened to him are beginning to wonder if he is simply all talk, no game. Hartley brushed off those remarks after the Royals’ last game, and had the following to say about his progression. “I’m playing on the third line, barely averaging ten minutes a game. What do you expect? I’m not *censored* superman, alright? Keep an eye out though, because things are going to pick up. I’m the next big thing in this league, and you’d better believe it.” Someone’s feeling a little sour, don’t you think? The Bern Royals have a solid team as it is, and are one of the best teams in the VHLM currently. Hartley might just have to get his attitude in check and learn that there is no I in TEAM.

Rookie Profile - #97 Aaron Hartley Name: Aaron Hartley Hometown: Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Position: Right Wing Height: 6'1" Weight: 187lbs Junior Team: Ottawa 67's VHLM Team: Bern Royals Player Comparable: Milan Lucic It seemed as though it was only a few days ago that Aaron Hartley walked out of the Ottawa 67’s locker room after a tough loss nearing the end of their season, and declared that he would be joining the VHLM… Oh wait, that’s because it was. Yes, Aaron Hartley will be amongst many promising rookies who will be jumping over to the VHLM in order to compete with the best of the best in hockey today and will be reporting to the Bern Royals in a few days time. But before he begins his journey, we need to provide a little information on Hartley and what he’s all about. For one, when Aaron Hartley walks into a room, he makes his presence known. He’s loud, energetic, and if there is a spotlight to be stolen, you can bet yourself that he will be stealing it. He loves attention, and he will show that both on and off the ice. Coming from a big family, and competing for attention all his life, being the middle child of three brothers, that is what we can expect. And after all his life searching for the one thing he could outshine his brothers in, and really make an impact in, he found hockey. Aaron’s style of play is very different than other players. While scouts all over the world have taken in some of his games, and admired his style, they have had a lot of trouble describing it. Many have said he plays the style of Milan Lucic, as he brings a big bodied presence for an 18 year old, and loves to play the body. “Wanna’ drop the gloves?” That’s one thing you’ll hear from Aaron at least once a game, as he loves to bring the energy to his team, and the physicality of his game is one of his top qualities. But what’s different for Aaron is the fact that he can also put the puck into the net. It’s not the prettiest of goals, but he knows where to place himself on the ice. You will find him grinding it out in front of the net looking for the tap-in, but you also need to beware of his lethal one-timer from the right face-off dot. There are many pros, as well as cons to his game. Here are a few of them to give you a brighter idea of why Hartley is the perfect teammate going forward. Pros Physicality – Aaron is a very physical player, and you can be sure he will be bringing that physicality in every game he plays. He is not afraid to throw the body, or to take a hit to make a play. His upper-body strength allows him to overpower opposing players and makes him a threat on the ice. Be sure to keep your head up out there, because if you’re caught not looking, chances are you’re getting hit. Leadership – Aaron is the type of guy any team would like to have as he brings a certain energy to the room and on the bench when playing. His encouragement and motivation make a team want to work harder each and every night, and that is what brings out the best not only in himself, but in his teammates as well. He loves to joke around, and can come off a little arrogant most of the time, but in the end it’s all for the good of his team. Scoring – Being a more physical player, it is sometimes hard to believe that Hartley is the type of player that can put the puck in the net more than only a few times per season, but he has proven to be a solid scorer everywhere he plays, and the main reason for that links back to his wicked one-time that he releases from the right face-off dot. More often than not, he is able to power through other players in order to get in position for that shot, and other times you will find him in front of the net looking for any loose rebounds to tap in. Cons Discipline – Hartley, being the physical player that he is, is often focused on bringing energy to his team. But sometimes he can take it too far. If his frustration gets to him on the ice, it can lead to some bad penalties at the wrong times for his team and put them in tough situations. His intentions are always good, but sometimes he lets his emotions get the best of him and takes it too far. Passing – Hartley does bring his offensive elements to the game, but his passing is what hurts him the most. Being focused on the checks most of the time, it’s hard for him to establish where to send the puck, and sometimes can lead to turnovers in the neutral zone. It is something that he’s been working on and is looking to improve going forward.

I was roaming through the HFBoards looking to get back into a league, and luckily stumbled across the VHL link. It had to be fate.

Hey guys, Some of you may remember me, some of you may not. Was here a while ago with players Adam Harris & Adam Scharfe. Personal life got way to busy to keep up with most things on the 'net, so I disappeared for a while. With things starting to calm down, and having some more time on my hands with school coming to an end for the summer next month, I'm looking to get back into the mix and excited to get back into the mix with a new player. Looking forward to reconnecting with all of you and contributing to the league as much as I can. Thanks, Adam.
