  1. Something that I thought was really cool from that page is that the telescope was first envisioned in the '80s and construction started in 2004. Goes to show just how much work is needed for that kind of thing!
  2. A bunch of random stuff, because I don't have a huge thing to go off about at the moment so I might as well give you a look into the world of Gustav (sorry to disappoint): -For the music lovers out there, the best thing I've listened to in the past week or so is an album called Liminal by bass player Adam Nitti. I especially recommend it for anyone into funk--here's a song for those interested. -Speaking of music, I wanted to exercise today but I've got blisters on both my hands (from picking up my guitar for the first time in a while and trying to play on some seriously dirty strings) and my feet (from actually exercising--I did some personal bests in both distance and time last week). I'm getting in shape, and it feels good! I'd recommend it to anyone in doubt. -I still love Vandelay, but he can only Vandelay so much--the shots on goal are out of hand and so is my record. I'd talk about whether I think it's worth it to be playing up this season at this point, but I might as well save that for my Rookie Experience. -I work mornings through Thursday, and then I am FREE from my retail job after just about five years! I hope to never return, as I'm off to finally get paid (albeit not much for a handful of years) for what I studied in school. It's time for some graduate work--I'm set to move out next month, and I'm excited for what's to come! -My golf game may be improving somewhat, and it's about time. I went out with some friends from school for the first time last week, and after a lot of talk about how I'm not as good as they think...I go and birdie the first hole, my first ever that wasn't on a really short par 3. Still fell apart on the back half of the round as usual, and still proved my point, but I made a memory I'll keep for a very long time. -I don't know about you, but I'm feeling 22! My birthday was on the 10th. No, I don't feel very different, but looking back on everything that happened at 21, it was a lot, and I'd love to see what I can make of the coming year. I hope you're doing well too! I'd love to hear about what's going on in your life.
  3. Shameless plug for my EFL article with a few ideas which I think could apply here too!

  4. Yes and no. I actually have a couple rescue greyhounds who are former racing dogs. The track will stay on top of who comes from who, so we know that at least (my first two dogs were actually distantly related despite being a few years apart). I suppose that doesn’t help much with your question, but it is a fun fact. Perhaps a vet would be able to recommend for or against it. You know, I’ve heard good things, but I admittedly don’t know much about prospects and who’s who in the last few seasons. I’m going to say without knowing for sure (or at all) that he’s going to be good but not great and he’ll stick around for at least half of his career. In mine or in general? I guess I’ll go with mine because I’m not educated enough to know about overall. One of the great moments in Sabres history came in 2006, when Jason Pominville won a series shorthanded in overtime against Ottawa. It’s famous for Rick Jeanneret’s “scary good” call, one of many great ones. 1. What do you do sports-wise in the NHL offseason? Do you follow baseball? Another sport? All in on NHL? 2. What are your thoughts on your team’s performance so far this season? 3. What’s an artist that you don’t necessarily like, but do respect, and why?

Thanks for the breakdown because I always have trouble keeping these kinds of deals straight. This seems like a huge win for Seattle! Effectively trading MDM for 2+3+Esso+Spyro...that's amazing value.
  8. I think @Dom missed out on an opportunity here. Welcome to the league, from one Hasek homie to another!
  9. As someone with (semi-) behind the scenes access to London's plans, the team is certainly in a difficult spot. I won't get into the Godlander situation but it wasn't quite what we'd hoped would happen in the offseason...things took a step back when we lost our best player at our thinnest position, and that was pretty much the direct opposite of the plan. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes you lose for no reason (I would know all about that). STHS works in mysterious ways and it's hard to guarantee success anywhere. For what it's worth, I'd chalk up this season so far to an unexpected offseason and some less-than-great sim luck. It would be unrealistic to expect the roster as is to dominate, but expecting it to be competitive is fair. There's still a very real chance that London could be a playoff team (especially if deadline day goes well). From an as-neutral-as-possible point of view and as a goalie builder myself, I wonder what the market for a goalie even looks like in the league now. Most teams have who they want and I'd think not many (if any) who want to compete this season have an outright need for one.
  10. The server is so active I have no idea how anyone lives having any part of it unmuted honestly. It doesn't matter for me anyway because notifications are screwed up on my computer and I have no idea how to fix them, so the only time I see that there's a message or a ping anywhere is when I have Discord open and I'm actively looking at it. (Don't tell me how to fix it; it's helped me stay focused quite a bit better now that I don't have a little red dot popping up every 2 minutes) This is very well put too. There's nothing wrong with letting people know the channel exists, but I think it's ridiculous to suggest that helping new people shouldn't be allowed in genchat.
  11. I think this is more on the members than anything else. If you're on Discord and you see a message pop up in the help channel, I feel like you would go in and see what's up and potentially give an answer--I would too. Someone who wouldn't doesn't really care about helping people and likely wouldn't give a decent answer regardless of the channel it's in. And honestly? If people are posting in the help channel and not getting help, we as a community should be ashamed of ourselves. The amount of saying we care about attention, retention, and burnout prevention (heh) is way larger than the amount of doing sometimes. This also bugs me in the sense that I stated earlier, that I personally don't care what's talked about where as long as it doesn't hurt anyone. But that's much less annoying to me than a new member's first act in the server being getting moderated needlessly.
  12. I suppose my statement may have been somewhat hyperbolic.
  13. Fair warning: this is another installment of "Gustav complains about moderation". Feel free to disregard as you choose. As always--mods, I like you as people and this isn't intended to be a shot at any of you personally. I've actually been fairly OK with the state of moderation since my survey article went up, and I think it's great that the voice of the league was able to change things. Posts in the ban thread no longer just say "Code of Conduct", and I've thought that mod-not mod interactions on mod-related issues have a level of respect that they were previously lacking. I've had a mod or two reach out to me about one thing or another, and we've always been able to have civil conversations. So, I sincerely commend the team for improving in almost every regard over the past few seasons. With that said, there's one thing I'm not a fan of, and I've seen it happen enough that it bugs me enough to write an article I don't even need because I've maxed out this week. For a while--and this is nothing new--there's been a heightened focus on keeping certain channels in the league Discord server on topic. We talk about health stuff and brag about our latest workouts in the health channel, we talk about graphics in the graphics channel, and we talk about games in the gaming channel. Frequently, we'll see a mod request to move a talk out of or into one of these specific places, because it's either unrelated to the channel or directly related to another. This is something I disagree with most of the time, because (as you should all know) I'm very much of the "if it's not hurting anyone or getting in anyone's way, I see no reason why any action should be taken" group, but I honestly don't really care beyond just rolling my eyes and switching over to the requested channel. As much as most of the convos in question don't hurt anybody, the mod policy really doesn't either. I'm content to just be quietly annoyed with it. Except in one specific situation. When a new member joins the league server, and makes a post (almost always in #general) looking for help, the ONLY correct response is to HELP THAT NEW MEMBER! ...not to tell said new member to take it to the help channel and to then proceed to not offer help in the help channel. I can understand having the help talk move over there if genchat is popping off and everyone's messages are getting buried in everyone else's--that's one thing. But when genchat is relatively uncluttered--and even when the only thing going on there is the new member getting the help they need from someone else--that's another. The member in question deserves some level of understanding that they've posted in the first channel they saw, they are hurting absolutely no one by asking a question, and giving that person a helpful answer--which is supposedly one of the league's top priorities--is far, far more important than talking about kranch. What kind of welcoming atmosphere do we say we pride ourselves on if someone joins the server, asks how to build, and the first response is, in effect, "we don't want that in here, take it somewhere else"? That, especially when I've seen questions go unanswered for a few minutes after they've been directed to the help channel--which is sometimes enough for someone to lose faith and disappear. When an innocent question is asked in a (supposedly) fairly supportive environment, there will be an answer--let it be. Please. I'd like to conclude this article with a suggestion so it isn't just me complaining. Currently, people joining the server are thrown directly into #general. Why not have the default channel for server entrances be the help channel? Someone coming into the server for the first time with a question will already be in the place to ask it. Now, this won't eliminate all instances of new members asking questions in #general--so, mind you, my point still stands; play it where it lies and let the question be asked and answered--but it will probably at least lead to more questions, at least first-time questions, going into the channel created for said questions. Turns out I do need this article after all--I can claim my donation doubles week from it! As always, if you sincerely consider my point of view, then I sincerely thank you. See you next week!

I did forum updating in a couple different leagues smh

It's not that bad on the player end but I despised the brief time I spent as an updater (in the first and only season of SBL).

  19. That the conferences aren't super unbalanced points-wise again, which I thought they might be as there isn't a huge shift in who is and isn't competing. I'm hoping it stays that way! I hate both. I suppose I'll go with really hot IF I have a decent working AC unit. At least then I could (most of the time) do some outdoor stuff at night or early on in the morning, and I don't have to worry about snow in the winter. This is actually really tough for me because so many of my favorite musicians (in fact, just about all) are instrumentalists. In fact...I'm scrolling through my library and I can't find anyone who sings who isn't at least better known for playing one instrument or another. So, in terms of people who can and do sing, are still alive, and aren't ancient, I present Thundercat, an amazing bass player and an even better songwriter. He's worked with a ton of other well-known artists on his stuff, so I picture the all-star game show being like one of those Super Bowl halftime performances where 5 different artists you know roll up with the headliner. 1. What's a book you were forced to read in school that you actually ended up liking? 2. If you're American, how did you spend your July 4th? If you're not, tell me about your country's equivalent holiday! 3. Where do you see your current team in 5 seasons? Will the team be doing well? Why or why not?
  20. Wow I can't believe the ANTI-JOEY SENTIMENT in this poll smh
  21. Hope you're doing well! I was sad to see you go (albeit for all the right reasons, of course--I'm sure life has gotten super busy). Degen hours aren't what they used to be
  22. Chicago getting Vandelay'd
  23. I think you're going to have a very good fantasy year--without my computer available, I did much more "this looks like a solid option, let's run with it" than "I have to find the best pick here" when I was up...and I might end up paying for that. A lot of yours certainly made me wonder why I never noticed the player in question (and towards the end I was starting to care more about getting our draft over with than winning ).
  24. David Davis!
  25. @xNJDevilsFanx is skipped again; not sure what exactly was set out for the situation. Would like @Spartan to clarify whether this is a DQ at this point or not if possible. Either way, @Frank is now on the clock.
