  1. I kind of figured, glad I made the point in general anyway since there are people who would think what you said unironically.
  2. Stop making me support the public candidate voting process smh
  3. Fishy: asks for information BoG: gives information Community: oh look the BoG is posting in this thread, this must be a conspiracy! I don't know when the BoG existing turned into a hot-button issue and it's become clear that way too much is going to be interpreted as some sort of plot to destroy everyone who isn't a part of it (I know this seems like I'm calling out Boot here in particular and I am to some extent but I'm speaking more in general terms than anything else, I like you boot). So when saying anything is going to be pointed out as an act of conspiracy, and so is not saying anything--can anyone understand why reading through things that criticize us in a non-constructive way might be a bit frustrating? This is why I'm saying this debate is a two-way street--I want to help the community and so does everybody else. I want to listen to constructive criticism and so does everybody else. Points that aren't points at all but are rather just "lol stupid BoG is dumb and bad" accomplish neither of those things. Sorry if my brain sounds a bit fried here, it just is at the moment.
  4. Or voting no because they're bitter about not being the candidate. I think as a whole the candidates would be well-liked enough by the league in general that we'd rarely (if ever) see someone get voted out though.
  5. I keep forgetting it does this smh
  6. More screeching noises from the local Wawa signal what the villagers knew was coming for a while but perhaps weren't fully prepared for. No, that's not a rooster. The town budget didn't allow for that. It's @Doomsday. And the sun is rising. Nothing new for this game--oh wait, I should give you the role list. Now that that's established, time for the copy-paste. If you're on light mode, TOO BAD as always. Highlighting it to make it readable is always an option. -JOIN THE DISCORD SERVER! YOU'RE REQUIRED TO! HERE'S ANOTHER LINK! -I'm going with my usual starting and ending times as a general guideline: WHENEVER THE HELL I WAKE UP marks the start of each day phase, and 10 PM EST marks the start of each night phase. Those will be the times that I'll aim for, but, officially, the start of one phase and the end of another comes whenever I make the announcement. You'll be pinged. I will do my best to give out expected announcement times, but I reserve the right to kick off any phase at any time. -No talking in this thread during night phases. That goes for everybody, regardless of role. I have no power to lock this thread at night, and there's no official penalty for talking in here at night, but if you see one of your fellow citizens doing so, please yell at them for me. -Do not edit posts. I've been relaxed about not yelling at people who have, but editing is a sneaky way to take out potentially incriminating information. If you say something stupid, too bad. Don't change it. -If you are reasonably able to be online at the start of the night phases, please make an effort to do so. The JAILOR (if there is a Jailor) is able to speak with you in their own Discord channel at night, and that is when I will put the Jailor's target in said channel. If it is within your power to do so and doesn't present a huge inconvenience, please be online when the night phase starts and please join the server out of respect for the Jailor and their time. If you know you won't be around at the start of the night phase, it might be helpful to give me a message to forward to the Jailor during the day phase should you be placed in jail that night. -DO NOT PM ANYBODY. All communication must happen in this thread, unless you have already received an invite to a Discord server where you may speak as well. If you haven't, keep everything here. Should you wish to contact someone directly, too bad! Whispers don't exist in this format. -STAY ACTIVE. If you do go two day and night phases in a row without speaking in public, speaking in a private Discord, or sending me a night action (or specifically telling me you do not want to take a night action), I will swing the Mighty Gustav Hammer of Death. You do not want the Mighty Gustav Hammer of Death, and neither does anybody on your side. -NO ROLES ARE OFF THE TABLE. If you play the online game, you may be familiar with a Classic mode being the default, where many of the newer roles are not used. In these games, if the evil faction is the Mafia, ALL roles which are not members of the Coven may be used, and vice versa. This includes Any All and Town Traitor. -Last but not least, friendly reminder that no discussion relevant to this game in particular is allowed in the #general channel of the game server while this game is running. -Just kidding! Actually last but not least--IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO CHECK YOUR DISCORD CHANNEL FOR NOTIFICATIONS PRIOR TO EACH DAY PHASE. It might not end well for you if you don't! -And last but not least for the third time, if you choose to change a night action, please, please, send a new message rather than editing your old one. I've missed changes because of this before as an edit doesn't give me any sort of notification if I've already seen and missed the first one...so make sure I've got it right by separating your submissions! 7. I really appreciate that this post is actually written in a civil manner (unlike many, many others over my time here), and seeing as it is I feel it's fair to respond to it as completely and accurately as possible (because I have nothing better to do with my time at the moment). I think this is pretty difficult to do when a lot of what happens tends to be met with trolling or false accusations of doing things purely for our own benefit. However, I understand that you're not one of the people doing that, so I'm not going to blow this off as "we literally cannot talk about what we're doing" (even though at times it can feel like that's the case). Is there anything other than transparency that you feel is an issue? You mentioned bringing back the updates--that's not something I disagree with at all. I will say that the updates were very well-done and, in fact, provided just about all the private information there was without giving away anything that was supposed to be kept secret or selling out who was saying what specifically to open the door to attacks or harassment. In my opinion there wasn't really a better way to structure the update threads--and I can see why they'd be a valuable resource for the general community. This thread seems to largely be about transparency, so again I'm also curious as to what may be causing issues other than having a limited amount of info publicly available. So with that being said... ...I agree with this. This is a valid point, but to the best of my knowledge there was never any conscious decision made to stop making updates and nobody has ever mentioned this about them. So I don't think this played into having updates (or not) at all. I think this goes both ways. I've already mentioned trolling and I've already mentioned the fact that we'll have negative (and sometimes aggressive) reactions to just about everything we do. This isn't a reason to not be transparent but it is a reason to not turn over every last detail. You might be surprised how often that is a correct answer (whether or not it's the right one is an opinion I'm not going to tell anyone to have). Think about how long the league has existed and how many policies and amendments have been made to get us to this point--the system has continued to be optimized for 13.5 years now. It isn't perfect and it never will be--but I hope it's fair for me to say that that's part of the reason why we aren't always coming up with giant, sweeping changes to the way the league works. If the response is "we've talked about this already", I do agree that it's fair that a reason why said idea isn't a thing should at least come with that. I don't disagree with the spirit of this at all, but I'll also question how often we'll see someone be voted "no" enough that they don't get the job. In general, the blue team knows who's active and who makes a difference in the community, so someone who's nominated for a BoG job will presumably be someone who's respected and well-liked (and will presumably be voted in). So I feel like this would just lead to the community as a whole (regardless of how any one member feels about any one candidate) voting everyone in while some drama is also probably created over the situation. I'd suggest you read this if you haven't already: We aren't as important as most people think we are, and any BoG member who tries to say they're more important or valuable than anyone else shouldn't be on the BoG. I find this kind of ironic because a lot of people on the BoG were "new additions" when they were added--before I was ever added, I was a bit of a hotheaded first-gen who liked to start crusades on the forum over mild inconveniences (newer members can search up "#fixthelottery" for a fine example of that). Then I was added, and it's probably been a year since that point...and I've been told I'm a boomer who doesn't care about anyone except myself and purposely makes policies to step on new members, which was exactly what I complained about before, and I like to think I'm still the same person who believes in integrity and working to improve things for everyone. Whether or not there's anything sketchy going on (and I'm not trying to say that we're perfect people), there will always be someone pointing fingers and saying things are corrupt. But back to the original point--BoG membership should be diverse, I agree. It just usually takes some time before someone's considered to have proven themselves as a long-term, upstanding member of the league who doesn't cause trouble. Again, I really appreciate this. Legitimate points are often lost because the writer is doing these things. Hopefully this is fair; I think it is but perhaps I'm biased.
  8. Friendly reminder to join the server if you're in
  9. Roles incoming for most of you! I'm leaving a few spots empty for now in case we get some last-minute signups but we're mostly good to go.
  10. Yeah, a bit of a little-known fact is that I briefly joined VSN as a writer. I never actually wrote anything for VSN because I just couldn't make myself want to--even after I specified that I'd really only join if I only wrote things when I wanted to write things and only ever claimed pay for those things in particular. Even the idea of planning my articles and stuff in advance or fitting a schedule was enough for me to lose interest--I never write an article unless I really want to write it, and the idea for said article is something that usually hits me out of nowhere because sitting around and trying to think about ideas never goes well. If I don't have any ideas I just do a graphic or something--a couple weeks ago I even wrote up a wall of text in the EFL because I didn't have any VHL ideas. There have been a few threads about burnout in recent memory--burnout is what happens when something you enjoy turns into something you feel like you have to do, and then it stops being something you enjoy. This sounds like exactly that, as much as I'd do my best to stay with it if it ever became a thing. To be fair, I think the point of this thread wasn't to point fingers or demand that people step down. Behind what's probably ultimately not the best take is a legitimate point--the league deserves the absolute best from its GMs. We've seen franchises in recent memory have all the life sucked out of them because the GM just wasn't around. Regardless of whether or not anyone would agree with any specific example of this I'd give, I'm sure anyone who's been around a bit can think of a few. The league does deserve better, and I agree that people who aren't willing to go above and beyond for their team probably shouldn't be in the most in-demand position there is. But there are better ways to do it than requiring one specific thing where someone can just rattle off game stats and then go inactive for the week. Things like player surveys or performance evaluations would arguably be a lot better in terms of keeping the GM community a group of the best possible candidates.
  11. Yeah, I mean, it shouldn't come as a surprise that I'd say: -I'm active -If this were required I'd do it -I like to think I can write well enough that it wouldn't be boring But about your point about activity: in my opinion, if someone needs to be forced to write one specific article every week to prove they're active...they're not the type you'd want to see as a GM anyway. Forcing them to fake it doesn't help anyone; it just gives them something to point to when the league tells them to step it up ("but guys, I've been doing this super formulaic article every week").
  12. Town of Salem kicks off TOMORROW, on the 1-year anniversary of our first game! Can you believe it?

  13. >Not last YEET
  14. I mistyped "Davos" in the title and it autocorrected to "David"...how fitting. Announcing this season's captains! Normally I do a team vote, but the roster is fairly depleted so I took it upon myself to honor a few of those who have either been with us for a while or who represent the brightest parts of our future... C - Tyler Walker A - Reylynn Reinhart A - Shawty Nananana Congratulations to @Advantage, @Ricer13, and @Grape!
  15. You should join then Edit: just realized you did join and I'm just an idiot.
  16. I love Fonzi, have known him for a while, thought it was great that he finally ended up with a GM job after being a great contributor to our community for as long as he has. It seems you feel the same way and I appreciate that. But I also definitely understand your disappointment as you were the one running the team for a bit. I'll agree that it felt weird when you didn't end up with the job, given that you more or less had the job and did things with it to show that you were competent. I personally expected you to end up with it when the forum application went up. So without commenting on what the "right thing to do" for the blue team was, one way or another (as I wasn't involved in that discussion and don't know the details of it), I can certainly imagine why this is incredibly frustrating. I haven't had much to do with you on a personal level here, but I've always seen you as a decent person who knows what's up. So I sincerely hope that you stick around here and one day find yourself running a team.
  17. And WE DONE @Domg5 Full rosters in my first reply here.

  20. Gustav noises I'M BACK! And so is Gustav-run Town of Salem. Be prepared for all your favorites...chaos! Hilarity! Friendships being destroyed over fake Internet points in a community where other friendships are destroyed over other, completely unrelated, Internet points! A mod who's actually done a decent job the past couple games but who will probably screw up your night results anyway! Sound fun? No, but it will be. No special announcements, except that a lot of people have won games since the last game I ran, and it doesn't seem particularly exciting to give all of those people the trivia bonus...and it doesn't seem fair to pick and choose. So nobody gets the 30% trivia bonus--but you can still get yourself up to a 20% chance at a role you want by playing trivia (link and details to follow). Now for the copy-paste. If you use light mode, buckle up. Rules are here The wiki is here It's possible I've thrown this in a thread before (I don't know for sure) but RIP Chick Corea CLICK THIS LINK IF YOU'RE NOT IN THE DISCORD SERVER JOINING THE SERVER IS REQUIRED FOR ALL PLAYERS! Non-players are welcome as well. Remember that ALL game-related notifications will be given on Discord! Make sure you join the server, and check it BEFORE speaking in the game thread each day. Also, do your best to be there at the start of each night phase! If you're new to the game, read up on some roles on the wiki and go through some old game threads in this subforum. TRIVIA TIME: HERE IS THE LINK TO TRIVIA! -Each correct answer gets you a 5% chance at a role of your choosing, for a cumulative maximum of a 20% chance. Sound simple? It is. Vote up top, join down below, as always. Target start date: Wednesday night!
  21. @Beketov sim

  23. @AnthonyOuellet last pick reminder
  24. Would you also be shutting it down to hit the mod quota?
