  1. Absolute scorcher of a trade right here
  2. I agree. And I'd like to think things could be kept civil. I also take it you weren't on Discord last night...which was a bit of a mess. People taking exception to certain award winners and immediately demanding that votes be released (for what reason? I hope you wouldn't say they're planning on having a polite and civil convo about it), people calling for firing/removal of people who voted a certain way for certain awards, all that good stuff. I was even angrily pinged in particular to explain votes that I didn't even make. Yes, I trust the community as a whole, and yes, most people aren't doing this. But this kind of comes across as "if we make all the votes public, this won't happen" when it was already borderline happening without specifying who voted for what. Again, I agree that transparency is good. It just so happens that in this particular case, there's a bit of a dark side to it that I'm not confident will not be uncovered.
  3. We do. It's hit or miss, sometimes I think there's a lot of great, educated debate and some other times I question who's reading the threads and who's just filling in the ballot. Again, I'm not trying to put myself above anyone else in BoG. As I mentioned in my last post here there was one season where I forgot about voting entirely.
  4. I think a good rule of thumb for any voting system, be it BOG, Award Committee, or whatever, is: ACTUALLY MAKE PEOPLE TALK ABOUT THEIR VOTES AND JUSTIFY THEM IN VOTING THREADS. Obviously I'm not here to point fingers and I don't even know who voted for what (that's not my business to know anyway) but I can think of multiple instances where someone won an award based on one person's argument...and I'd assume everyone else just silently agreeing and not contributing. I've been guilty of the same at times (including one season where I straight-up forgot to vote), so don't take this as me putting myself on some sort of moral high ground as that isn't the intent. I actually agree with the concept of votes being released publicly (as in, I'd be fine with it if Victor came in and listed off everyone I voted for; I can take whatever heat anyone's got), but I do worry about how that would be used. I don't want to see people getting personally attacked, accused of voting to serve their own interests, voting to help their own predictions, and whatever else that would probably constitute a Code of Conduct violation worthy of punishment if it didn't inevitably gain popular support if it were worded well enough. ...which I think brings up an interesting debate. As a member I'd certainly be interested in seeing who voted which players for which things and who didn't (I don't even have access to that information myself). As someone in the BoG I'm fine with my own votes being plastered all over the forums or Discord, because as stated earlier, I get that people are going to get irrationally angry over some stuff and, if that happens over my votes at any time, it's nothing I haven't dealt with before either on here or in real life. That's my own situation. I can't speak for other people on this, because it should be fairly obvious that being trashed for your own opinions isn't something that anyone actively wants, regardless of whether or not anyone's actually cool with it happening. And also regardless of whether or not anyone's cool with it happening, if specific people being singled out and put down becomes something that routinely happens every season...is that really the way we want the community to go? Is it really the look we want to give off, especially to newer people right before their first big draft(s)? This community is great most of the time, but let's be honest--threads can get messy. And they often do when the topic is controversial. So my opinion is this: transparency = good, definitely opening the door to drama and potentially opening the door to harassment = no good. Either way this goes, there's a big negative to point to.
  5. That is a lot for some rights. Wonder if an agreement was reached before the trade.
  6. I guess I just remember spending a while trying to convince you to sign and with there being a rights deal that offseason figured it involved Malmo. I do remember the Davos thing going down now that you mention it though.
  7. ID: 20554613558992685 Doubles Week - claiming week ending 3/21 5 uncapped - claimed $1m cash - claimed
  8. ...Billy died.
  9. I remember noob me seeing the second Thompson rights deal (to Malmo, I think it was just Thompson for a 2nd) go down and thinking it was a lot to give up for a player's rights. Took us to the cup finals though so I can't complain.
  10. Why in the hell does Muff have a mutual option with the team he manages
  11. #IDRFUR.GCHTPEIIWDATP.CISBUAHINSD Get it trending bois
  12. I'm in, have been (I hope) a decent manager since they became a thing + willing to manage again.
  13. For the week ending 3/14: 1. How many goals will our 40-scoring friend Shawty Nananana score this season? 2. We just recently saw Beaviss, one of the league's commissioners, step down. Should the league bring in a third commissioner? Who should it be? 3. With fans out of games, the team needs a new way to generate revenue. What's your best idea for a fundraiser? 4. You get to sponsor a concession stand in our arena, with the menu up to you. Do you go for the usual generic arena snacks, or do you get creative? What's being served? 5. What's a favorite team of yours in a sport other than hockey? 6. How do you prefer to write--pencil, pen (what color?), anything else? @Jer_Lefebvre @Big Dee @Lefty_S @Ahma @Advantage @Grape @PadStack @Berocka
  14. Man I'm 20 and I've had to hold back from telling people to shut the hell up on here. Can't wait until I'm a boomer I think knowing people well also plays an important role in determining a proper response. If someone's obviously 15 and being an idiot it's very likely that they're going to look back on it in 5 or 10 years and realize that they were an idiot...but arguing with them is just going to make them be more of an idiot because they're 15 and think they're right about everything. Teaching them probably doesn't do much either...because they think they're right. But maybe it will make them think a bit and grow a little. I kind of just look at people my age and older who think they're right about everything as people who had the opportunity to change for the better and made a decision not to. That's not to say they can't still end up changing, just that the level of maturity which one would expect hasn't been reached and perhaps is being purposely avoided due to one insecurity or another. Perhaps that's a bit of an elitist take and I hope that doesn't come across as demeaning but it is how I found myself relating to this bit. Maybe that's my shitty take too. Guess we've all got stuff to work on.
  15. Oh I read it wrong. Either way if your results don't destroy a few relationships your survey isn't dramatic enough.
  16. "I'm excluding troll answers" >Jardy nominated for GM
  17. It's always going to raise some questions when the #1 poster in the league Discord server steps down as commissioner and talks about general lack of enthusiasm. It's also always going to raise some questions when one offseason sees three GMs step down after a period of not much turnover (granted, not all of those, if any, had to do with burnout). What is burnout? Say you find something you really enjoy doing...we'll use the VHL as an example. You love it, you want to be a part of it, you are a part of it, you enjoy everything you're doing. You do all your tasks early. One week, you can't think of a good article idea, so you decide to wait until later on in the week. Monday turns to Wednesday, and before you know it it's Sunday night and you don't have any interesting ideas. So you knock out 500 words on something super generic because you have to keep your earning up. Well, it's Sunday again, and it's Monday again, so you take a break because you just did something yesterday...and it's not like you have a good idea after a day. Before long, you're putting off all your articles until the last minute. Every week, everything is now getting done as late as possible. Writing has now gone from something you liked to something you have to do every week. One week you even forget to log on on Sunday and you realize that you weren't all that negatively affected on a personal level by missing a week. One missed week turns into another, as "I need to be doing this" has stopped being a thought of yours, and eventually you just stop visiting the site. Not because you're making the conscious decision not to, but because you haven't enjoyed the league in a long time and your first thought in your free time is far from "I wonder what's going on in the VHL". So what's going on with you? Are you doing OK? Do you enjoy what you're doing? Do you feel like the tasks that you do and the time you put in here is something you need to be doing rather than something you enjoy? I'm not saying "go inactive if that's true", simply "be aware of yourself". Be aware of what you're getting out of the league and learn to recognize burnout when it happens. And at that point, I won't definitively tell you what to do because nobody knows you better than yourself. Give yourself an honest evaluation, find out what you're having fun with and what you're not, and make an informed decision. You obviously can't force yourself to like something, and in fact that will probably make the situation worse. We've just seen that burnout happens to the best of us--and that's ok. Being active and invested is great. Just be as active and invested as you want to be.
  18. FISTED ANALLY BY A CIRCUS MONKEY
  19. tbf I've been complaining about that for a while. You're not alone.
  20. As someone who's dunked on you a ton, my apologies if I've had anything to do with this. If there's anything you'd like to clear up please feel free to shoot me a message. Thanks a ton for what you did as commissioner and the time you put into your role. A large part of the league (arguably myself included) wouldn't have even found their way over here if it weren't for everything you did for recruitment. Definitely hoping you'll stick around and continue to be active going forward!
  21. -With ADV being hired in Mexico City and the drama surrounding it, what are your thoughts on the "VHLM GM jobs should go to newer members" thing? -What's your favorite thing that's happened in the VHL within the past calendar year? -What's something the league once had that you wish could be brought back?
  22. It's interesting to think that numbers like these might not be "bad" at all in the future now that we've got 16 teams. One cup every 15 seasons won't be bad once we've got a few decades of this going--in fact, it's slightly above average given the new league size. Also putting one championship every 16 seasons (the new league average if no teams are added/taken away) in perspective, the Oilers won the cup in 1990. About this season is when you could statistically begin to define them as a below-average team in terms of championships between 1990 and today...even though they've spent a good part of that time being a mess and a lot of people here haven't been alive for a championship of theirs. I guess the point is that what we're looking at as awful now will likely become unremarkable/average in the future.
  23. About to go 4-0
