I think all shots in STHS are considered of the same quality.

I think Discipline (poise) is a useless attribute individually, but if a whole team has like 60/70 discipline it's actually pretty good.

I wouldn't say it's discouraged the concept of the meta, but its eliminated the extremities of the meta. The overarching concepts on how to make a strong player will always be there, but we can no longer abuse it to the same ridiculous level we could before. What made the meta so bad was a) we could have 99s in not only one stat but multiple, and b) we could mess with the decision engine so badly that it created non-realistic outcomes. By forcing players to either invest a stupid amount of TPE into increasing scoring individually, or just allow for passing to go up with it (not increasing the frequency of shots, but still the likelihood of scoring) has essentially fixed both problems.

And yes there are still a lot of pretty well useless stats. When it come to grit, and especially the fighting aspect of it, fighting on really seems to work when enough people have points in fighting to then fight. Putting point in fighting doesn't allow you to prey on player that don't have fighting, but it does increase your likelihood of engaging with another willing fighter. So since not many people invest in fighting, it appears to do a lot less than it likely was designed to do.

    Chip Stone and His Performance
So the good news is I’m no longer dissatisfied with Chip Stone’s results. Don’t get me wrong: I would’ve loved it if he had a Rookie of the Year performance this year, but I’m contributing on a team that’s doing incredibly well and I’m happy about that. I’m probably going to finish with about a point every two games. That’s decent. The only thing that I need to do is perform in the playoffs and keep earning. Chip will get better, and I have the advantage of being able to have a longer career than Scott Greene, and he became a beast eventually too.

    DA BEARZ
Speaking of Da Bearz, we’ve been doing great. I’ve been on vacation, but it seems like the team is still engaging with each other and in high spirits. We lost a few recently, but that’s no big deal. I don’t need to win the Victory Cup. All I want to do is make the playoffs. The team is still playing unbelievably and the games are close, so we just have to refocus and bring our best game.

    Podcast
I regret to say I haven’t had time to do another Dok and Spyro’s League News this week, but we’re looking at doing it sometime next week. We still really want to bring some of the players from Warsaw on the podcast and also bring Gustav back on for another interview. Really anything that makes it easier on us and distributes the TPE. ;)  But seriously, it’s one of my favorite things to make PERIOD, not just for the site. I want to make more!

    Miscellaneous
Honestly, I just want to hear more drama. I hate to say it, but I enjoy the spicy stuff. The only thing going on with me site-wise is I’ve taken over the press conference section for the Bears while Bana is on vacation, and I’ve actually found that quite fun! And, I don’t have to answer the questions. I can just ask them which is a nice change of pace. I recently discovered the drama of Hall of Fame articles. They give uncapped TPE but I really don’t have the patience for writing one, so if anyone wants to do one, head on over to that section. It seems like there’s a really concerted effort to get all of the inducted players to have a well-written article!

    Theme Week
Theme week is coming up. What’s it going to be about? I would guess the theme will be Curse of the Victory Cup. Make it about teams that ran away with the regular season title and disappointed in the playoffs. I got the idea from watching a video from the Hockey Guy on YouTube. That’s always an interesting discussion. How many teams win the Victory Cup AND the Continental Cup? Is it the same percentage as the NHL? Scoring seems to be higher in the VHL than in the NHL, so who knows? Everything may work completely differently, but I wonder if this is something that’s been investigated by the league before.

Other Stuff (Different from Miscellaneous Somehow)
Monday I may livestream an Alumni Game for some teams. We’ll see. We’ll be using NHL 22 and I’ll include the top 12 players (two goalies, four defensemen, six forwards) from each team throughout their history. Should be good fun if I get around to it!

    Have a good week everyone!

Grit gives you more hits and PIMs, but also makes your team likelier to lose because you're in the box a lot more. Some might say that Poise or Leadership are useless, but at worst they're a net 0 (and I think Poise is actually decent) while Grit is actively detrimental to team success.

At the high end (>1000 TPA), people are still going majority scoring first because they can afford the extra cost and recognize that it is still going to be overall better than pass first. However, at the lower levels it's definitely more of a decision rather than it used to be. At 600 TPA I think it's a genuine debate whether pass first or scoring first is superior.

Greetings readers!! And welcome to the actual finale of this series, we just have two teams left to look at and they are the best of the best, there is no denying the impact these teams had during the decade, these two teams each have multiple cup finals appearances, 390 plus regular season wins, and were top three in goal categories six different seasons. It may be only two teams but there's a lot to cover with them, without further delay, let's talk about these two teams!

    Moscow Menace
    Record: 390-268-62
    Rank: 2nd with 1092 points
Goals for: x3                    Conference finals: x3
Goals against: x4               Cup finals: x1
Goal differential: x4      Continental Cup: x1
                                                        Victory Cup: x3               Points: 842+250
Expansion ranking: 7th with 667 points
Our runner up is the Moscow Menace, and I have to be honest I thought they won more than one cup during the decade? I joined the VHL in S69 and the first few seasons of the S70's I swear I remember them winning more cups but perhaps it's the Victory Cups I remember and not the Continental Cup. Regardless this was a team to be feared for most of the decade, their the only team with multiple 50 win seasons and they brought home the Victory Cup a record three times during the ten year span. As has been a trend for the last few teams I've covered, the Moscow Menace started off the S70's strong going 50-17-5, finishing top three in goals for and differential, and capturing both the Victory Cup and Continental Cup. They swept the Phantoms in the first round, schooled Riga 4-1 and downed the Wranglers in six games. They are the only other team besides Malmo to secure 200 points in a season, and they didn't even earn all the bonus points as they weren't top three in goals against. That is how you start off a new decade though and it looked like Moscow would have more cup wins in them. They're record would take a large drop as they finished 37-27-8 but were still top three in the previously mentioned goal categories, and would go to the finals for a second year in a row, dropping the Nighthawks in four, beating Riga in six before the Bears stopped them 4-1. S72 they would take a smaller drop this time around, finishing 35-29-8, they were top three in goals against this time and beat the Titans in the first round 4-2 before Riga got revenge for the previous two seasons and swept them. Entering S73 saw a jump back up in their record, 40-23-9 and again finished top three in goals against but failed to win a round in the playoffs this season.

Entering S74 Moscow seemed to be on the downswing more than the up swing but that would change as they posted their second best record of 51-19-2, finishing top three in all goal categories and bringing home the Victory Cup a second time. The team failed to win a round in the post season however making that regular season performance seem moot. Again Moscow would see another big drop off in their record after a 50 plus win season, going 39-27-6 and beating the Titans in the first round in a close seven game series before the Nighthawks beat them in six in the next round. Regular season wise Moscow rebounded to have the best overall record of the S70's, posting a 53-13-6 record which narrowly beats out Malmo's 53-19 record in S79 mentioned a few parts back. Being top three in goals against and differential plus they made it out of the first round beating the Phantoms in a hard fought seven game series before the Predators did away with them in seven. After this it seemed like Moscow and used up all its luck and prospect pool as they dropped like a rock. They dropped to a record of 28-38-6 for just 62 points which was just one more point than the Dragons who were dead last. They had a small bounce back in S78 getting up to 34-35-3 before falling to a new low in the last season of the decade, 23-40-9 for 55 points. Moscow was no longer a menace in the league. Despite it being their lowest record of the ten year span they were only third last as Helsinki and Toronto finished with 48 and 47 points respectively. Much like Vancouver and Calgary, Moscow loses a lot points looking at the expansion ranking, they lose over 300 points which really stings, combine that with their last three seasons being rough and they drop five spots, it's still top ten though so nothing to be too ashamed of though.

    Seattle Bears
    Record: 426-248-56
    Rank: 1st with 1283 points
Goals for: x5                    Conference finals: x1
Goals against: x2               Cup finals: x2
Goal differential: x6      Continental Cup: x3
                                                        Victory Cup: x1               Points: 908+375
Expansion ranking: 1st with 903 points
This really should be of no surprise to anyone that was around for most of the S70's, Seattle has been one of the most consistent teams for decades at this point and their dominance in the S70's is a perfect example of this. Before we even start looking through each season lets note some achievements, they have 1283 points which is 191 points ahead of second place, 375 bonus points which is 125 more than what Moscow earned, they were top three in goal categories 13 times, they are the only team to earn 400 plus wins in the regular season which beats out the second place regular season team the Calgary Wranglers by 29 wins, they made it to the finals five times in the S70's and won it three times, their 903 points in the expansion ranking is 87 more than the second place Predators who are already 53 points ahead of third place, they had seven 40+ win seasons and won at least half their games every season. That alone should speak volumes to how good Seattle was, most teams experienced a major dip at some point during the decade, needing to rebuild or re tool, even as impressive as Calgary was during the regular season with six 40 win seasons and never dropping below 31 wins, Seattle trumps that with seven 40 win seasons and never going below 36 wins meaning every season they won at least half their games. Now that I'm done gawking at Seattle's ridiculous numbers let's cover each season so we can end this series.

For a change of pace Seattle's first season of the decade was decent, not super strong like the last three teams I've talked about, going 37-28-7 and they would beat the Wolves in the first round 4-1 before being taken out by the Wranglers in six. Season 71 really is where Seattle began their march to conquer the league this decade, going 43-23-6, being top three in goals for and differential and taking home the Continental Cup. The Bears slayed the Dragon in seven games, dominated the Wolves 4-1 and showed now fear against the Menace winning in five. Season 72 would be a regular season improvement going 47-22-3 and finishing top three in all goal categories, post season wise it was a step back as they didn't even win a round. Seattle showed they still had it next season however as they had their best record of the S70's, posting a 49-18-5 record and winning their only Victory Cup of the decade. On their way to winning a second Cup they again slayed the Dragons 4-2, stopped the Wranglers in seven, and beat the Titans in six. Season 74 saw them drop by eight wins, going down to a record of 41-24-7 and finishing top three in goal differential, they had no luck in the postseason though. Season 75 and 76 was a time for the Bears to hibernate, to recharge. They still had very respectable records of 39-25-8 and 36-29-7, the latter being the lowest they ever got, that record still had them at eighth in the league.

S77 the Bears came out of hibernation and got back over 40 wins, earning a record of 41-28-3 and while they weren't top three in any goal category they went on to capture their third cup of the S70's, they started off by beating the Legion in six, sweeping the LA Stars, and handing the Titans another loss in the finals, this time in five. With only 155 points earned this season was the lowest amount of points a team finished with while still winning the cup, thought that was worth mentioning. With only two seasons left at this point Seattle only went up in the regular season standings, going 54-20-7, finishing top three in goals for and goal differential. In the postseason they dealt with the Wranglers in seven, steam rolled the Phoenix in a sweep, and couldn't quite beat the Predators, losing in six. S79 they had their second best record of 48-21-3, finished top three in all goal categories and for a third time in a row went to the finals. They once again battled the Dragons and beat them in five, barely beat the Stars in a seven game series before this time the Nighthawks got the better of them in six games. Take a breather we still need to mention their Expansion ranking, it's crazy good as you already know and anything I say here doesn't do it justice, it'd be one thing if they were first overall but third or fourth in the expansion ranking, outside of the Phantoms they are the only other team that shares the same ranking in both categories, it's remarkable for them to be first in both.

Oh my lord it's finished!! I got through it all! It feels really good to finish this series and my first power ranking style content. With how long it took to add up all the number and everything I will likely release all the number in a MS or something else just to talk about any final notes and let everyone see the numbers for themselves but I want to end it off here for now, it's been a great ride and I look forward to seeing you all next time!!

** bonus fact: the day before this game, I shut out the Reapers with a 53/53 shutout performance. We won 3-0 with 19 shots on goal. **

    15. Petrenko is having a good season after a 60 point performance last season. Seems like this could be a career year.
    16. I've played with good goalies but its great to have a goalie this good, especially one this young.
    17. I just want to be better and better. I hope to hit the point per game mark again and have at least 2 hits and shot blocks per game.

Hi Everyone, and welcome to the VSN Season 85 Offseason Recap! In this article we will recap all the offseason moves made by every team. In addition to this we will have a VHL Season update article coming out later today.

    Written by: VSN Scouting ( @N0HBDY, @badcolethetitan, and @Doomsday)
Graphics by: @N0HBDY and @v.2  (backgrounds)

This offseason Chicago re-signed most of their expiring players and made one major trade to help bring the team into a prime competiting position. That trade brought in depth defenseman Juice Box and goaltender Cole Pearce @N0HBDY from London. The Phoenix still with only a 5-4-1 roster will likely be on the hunt for that final forward to complete this star studded Chicago team.     Calgary came out of the offseason having been pretty quiet with their only trades being during the draft. Their only real major move was drafting defenseman Phil Strasmore @Phil and calling them up right up. Otherwise Calgary mainly focused internally by locking up many of its players for multi-season deals, those players being Landon Wolanin @jacobcarson877, Leandro Goncalves @leandrofg, and AirRig GoodBrandSun @Rhynex Entertainment.     Davos’s offseason was relatively quiet with the Dynamo focusing on its younger players and locking them out for a couple more seasons, some less than others, but those players being Siyan Yasilievich@badcolethetitan, Pete Mitchell @Crstats23, and Jake Thunder @Thunder. Their only major moves were acquiring veteran Alex Johnston @Alex who’s on his last season for the cheap price of a third round pick, then signing goaltender David Davis @Josh for another season but no more than that per Davis’s demands.     D.C has filled out it's roster through calling up some of it's prospects and adding 3 players through free agency and trades. Coming in through a trade from Riga is forward Darth Kaprizov @Darth Kaprizov who is a huge addition along with free agency signings Nezuko @Baozi and Milan Dvorak @solas. The Dragons rock a 6-4-1 roster and 500k still available in cap space.     Helsinki this offseason was very quiet, some might say that they were too quiet. Well, with their GM going MIA and nobody being able to step in the helm, eventually their AGM took over and was able to make a few moves to try to salvage the disaster that is Helsinki. This team right now has two defenseman, a superstar goalie, and six forwards, which to be honest, isn’t as bad as it seemed. However, this team only made three moves, signing a couple players to just be able to compete. The best move they have had was signing Cobalt Burns @Ledge and getting him on board long term. Regardless, this team is in shambles and this season it’ll be very interesting to see what happens.     The Stars are making the most of the newly expanded salary cap with an 8-4-1 roster. The only way they brought in players was through the trade market which they managed to grab Brian Kowalski @Wheaties, Jason Argos @Insypher, and Sirdvaldis Miglaskems @FrostBeard. A relatively young roster that is entirely signed through S86 with no real long term commitments being made currently. Though with many highly prospective players to come up in the future such as Sebastien Dokis @Sebastien, Todd Cooke, and Reno Reinhold @Reno.     London started their offseaon by re-signing depth skaters Branden Skuin @DrunkMonkey23 and Ivan Retoslav @eagle_3450, while also trading away Juice Box @Siddhus and Cole Pearce @N0HBDY for a 1st. Finally moving into free agency the United managed to sign veteran Jerome Reinhart @MexicanCow123 and a younger Kakapo Bushtit @Esso2264 to finish out their 6-4-1 roster.     The Nighthawks were making moves from trading to signing player in free agency. Malmo brought in four players through trade, those players being Donny Carter @TheNeonShaman, Bob Chicoine @PoignardLeclerc11, Jakub Brozik @Viper, and Max Torq @Steve. Even after bringing in those four players they signed Bogdan Trunov @qripll from free agency and called up Noodles Marconi @Eynhallow to finish with a 6-4-2 roster.     The Menace stayed true to their roots this offseason with their priority being re-signing franchise goaltender Papa Emeritus @Beketov for what is now the rest of his career. Moscow acquired two players by trade, Jannik Nylen @DreMin15 and Robert Wilk @Tomat0 who will fill out the roster and hope to hang onto a competitive role.     New York was a lot like Malmo this offseason and have ended up piecing together a decent roster. Three prospects will join the Americans, Malum Maellard @frescoelmo, Doug Matchett @jacobaa19 and Daniel Weaver @ThePerfectNut. Three more players will come in from free agency, veteran Henri le Massif @Garsh, Poopy Peepants @JardyB10, and Taylor Mourning @scoop will join the Americans and beef up their front line talent. Lastly coming in from a trade is Weenuk Warrior @KnightRiley to finish out the New York 6-4-1 roster.     Prague this offseason has been continuing their rebuild, with signing most of their prospects to their entry level contracts. I still think it’s going to take maybe one more season for Prague to be able to at least play some meaningful games, but they are taking a step in the right direction. One player I want to point out is Nikolas Kauppi @Tetricide, who is a very active player and he will help bring life to the locker room. The future is bright for Prague and if they continue what they’ve been doing, they should be competing in no time.     Heading into this offseason Riga was looking to move into a rebuilding phase for the franchise. Through mainly free agency the Reign were able to piece together a roster of whatever they could get. Riga has obtained a decent amount of valuable picks which will come in handy to replace the majority of it's players who are set to retire in the next couple of seasons. Through free agency Riga brought in Bob Beach @Big Bob, Phoebe Bridgers @GrittyIsKing, Julia Waffles @Edustava, Ashton Komaryk @Komaryk, and Tyler Reinhart @Zetterberg. The last of it's incoming players came through trade where the Reign acquired Daniel Clarke @Danzo and John Baard @Birdman for a 6-4-1 roster.     Seattle went into the offseason over cap and needing to dump some of it's player's and got just that from Malmo and Los Angeles. Seattle dumped two high payroll players and filled them in with incoming prospects Chip Stone @DoktorFunk and Velociraptor Greg @samx. The Bears also signed one player through free agency, Calix Pearce @Laine, to fill out their defenseman and have a final 5-4-1 roster.     Toronto had a lot of rostered players before this offseason and needed to unload a couple more players on top of the ones that were expiring. The Legion traded 3 players for picks in the draft this past offseason. After the outgoing players Toronto then brought up 5 of its prospects, Harry Hagel@jasplunds, Calen McKay @Kendrick, Cole Caufield Jr @weekz, Alessio Simeoni @Alesime, and Tyler Busser @lil OG z. Toronto continues to run with its trend of having a young roster in recent seasons and shows it with a 7-4-1 roster.     Vancouver was making moves this offseason, through trades, free agency, and drafting the team has exploded into a competitive role once again after only a couple of seasons. The Wolves signed two notable players this offseason, Nico Pearce @Spartan being the first notable player to sign to Vancouver for a single season deal along with an NTC. The second notable player is veteran Anze Miklavz @kelvi who is on their last season but will have a huge impact for the Wolves roster. Vancouver also called up prospect Henry Eagles @Greg_Di after drafting him just this past offseason. Lastly to complete the roster through trades they also brought in Nathan Powers @JB123, Biggie Cheese @a_Ferk, and Alexander Leduc @Lemorse7.     Warsaw was kind of a one touch of each category this offseason, they dipped their toe into the free agency pool, trading pool, and the prospect pool each one time. After leaving for free agency Warsaw signed Har Singh Nalwa @Dil. Through trading the Predators brought Johnny Xavier @Johnny_HX. Lastly through the prospect pool Warsaw called up Sock Monkey @chikn to fill out whatever they can of the roster which is now a 6-3-1.
