Overview:
 
To commemorate the 40th Anniversary of New York bringing home a Continental Cup, the VHL has released this rebrand for the team. While the shield and stripes stay the same, there is a team name change and a few minor tweaks to the logo itself. We have changed the "NY" part of the logo to the full city name. We have also added the new team name onto the shield itself. The plan is to change the team name every ten seasons; So in ten seasons we will be the NY 63's, then NY 73's, NY 83s etc. etc. until the end of time.
 
If the NY franchise ever do win another cup, we will be renaming ourselves the New York Cursebreakers and each team member will be given a 10ft gold statue right beside Lady Liberty herself.

1.     Major trade ended the previous week as Vancouver Wolves shipped Larry Abass Jr @RileyL and Jens Lekman @Bobcat to Calgary Wranglers for Thor Odinson @GoalPlays and S94 CGY 1st; who won the trade and why?
Hopefully it turns into a win win. Oddly enough we've trended better since we traded one of our best players. Just STHS things.
 
2.     Vancouver Wolves have struggled to start the season so are you still confident that Vancouver will turn it around and make the playoffs?
I hope we can sneak into the wild card round by seasons end. This season was all about turning the page on the rebuild but if it takes another season to contend then so be it. 
 
3.     Playoffs, Yeah, I am talking about playoffs!! With the NHL playoff only a few weeks away, is your team going to make the playoffs and what do you think of their chances of winning the cup?
Yes but the Canucks love to disappoint so I'd say the chances are slim.
 
4.     Fools day came and went with a few jokes being played, what one did you like and which one might have caught you out? (League embezzlement, Fake trade, GM stepping down etc..)
Fake trade was the best. Especially since Josh fell for it lol. Not sure how he missed the VHL Bot wasn't the topic author. No harm done though. 
 
5.     What did you think of the Fake trade involving Vancouver Wolves and the Moscow Menace; where Vancouver shipped off newly announced Captain Liv Slater @Subject056 to Moscow for S94 WAR 1st & S94 MOS 1st? Would this be a trade that you would complete? Why or why not? Did this joke caught you out? Why or why not?
@Subject056 is retiring a Wolf unless I step down as GM or she asks for a trade. 
 
6.     Captains have been announced so what are your overall thoughts about the new Leadership group being announced with Liv Slater @Subject056 as Captain, Left Alone @okochastar & Sunglasses Joyo @JetsGoalie101 as assistants?
Three great members. Two nearing the end with their players. Hoping Alone can find sone playoff success if not this season than next season.

Rebrand Theme Week
 
I've only been in the league for a little while now and so I don't have any strong ties anywhere just yet so coming up with a rebrand I thought might be hard for me. However there is a team that has an NHL counterpart that when they were coming into the league had a name pitched for them that I absolutely loved, and so for my rebrand choice I'm picking Las Vegas.
 
So say hello to the Las Vegas Rat Pack this name is just so sick to me, for a logo you could have gnarly looking rat in front of a poker chip. For the Colour scheme I think I would go with black and purple as the primary colours and as a mascot you'd have to get the best rat of all time: Brad Marchand, I guess you could put him in a rat suit but I think that would just be redundant. They would need to go out and find an appropriate coach to teach the players the way of the rat, maybe Marchand could pull double duty somehow, or get someone like Nick Cousins and have Marchand as an special advisor in practice.

Obviously the most important thing in practice would just be teaching and instilling the rat mentality into the players, showing the players the best way to get under opponents skin and how to sneak in cheap shots whenever possible. Of course we'd want them to be offensively talented too, Just look at our mascot He's and incredibly gifted player as well as maybe one of the top rats in hockey history.
 
As for the players they'd want to bring in, they would want players who can mix it up and force opponents off their game, and also then of course capitalize on the mistakes they make when they are too agitated to play their game. At all times the Rat Pack would need at least one player with high end rat qualities to captain the squad, someone who has grit, speed, and a thunderous body checking ability but also the mental capability to trash talk opponents in a way that can get the most level headed player see red. Make them make mistakes, rush them into bad passes or plays and also take retalliation penalties. Then once they do take advantage and don't miss the opportunities that present themselves.

Of course this is just a silly Idea and probably should never come to fruition, but even if you take out all the nonsense of forcing the roster to play like rats I think that Rat Pack is just such a sick name fo a team in Vegas. I don't know why but to me it just seems to fit, That being said Aces is still probably better for Vegas. But I'd be interested to see if any of the ideas submitted during this theme week get picked up and utilized in some way in the league. I've looked at a couple and some I think are really good and make a lot of sense.

When I look at the teams missing in the VHLM, and even in the VHL, it's a team in the Province of Québec. 
I know that in the past a team in Québec was in the league and moved to Vancouver, but with only half the teams in the league comes from North America and the other half are in Europe, that give not much room for a lot of city that should have a team in either of the three leagues. The VHL have a mix of North American team and European Teams, the VHLE is Europeans and the VHLM is North American.
 
I'm kinda surprise that in neither league a team in Montréal have existed in almost 100 seasons! The Canadiens is the most iconic hockey team and there is no team trying to emulate their success? It would be nice in the future to have a team with a Bleu Blanc Rouge branding in the VHL. We had some people lately that tried to make customs jerseys for the VHL team and it was difficult for some of them to find the right colors for them. A nice «tricolors» jersey would have been nice to see something different than Black&White. I know that New York have really similar colors, but the emphasis on each color is not the same. We can’t move a team in New York, the biggest market of the East Coast away, so maybe an expansion? Would be funny that the city who is the origin of the NHL and the team who have the most Stanley Cup will have his first team from an expansion!
 
The branding of Québec was a nice one, and I love that Vancouver took a part of «La Meute» to bring in their Wolves branding. In almost every sim league, we have Wolf somewhere, and that’s a thing that the real-life professional hockey is missing. I don’t consider the Coyotes to be one, but in the AHL we have the Chicago Wolves and nothing in the ECHL. The only thing that I don’t agree with, it’s staying with only the black and white as color… I find it a bit boring.
With all the teams in the Province that play in either of the three majors leagues, I’m sure we can look at some of them and get inspiration from. The Canadiens, the Rocket, the Lions and if we look at junior, we can add the Remparts and the Armada.
 
There is a lot of logo and amateur branding for a come back of a team in Québec so the inspiration won’t be a problem. You can’t use the Nordiques name or the logo, but a rebrand of «La Meute» or use the Harfangs if you want an animal can be a good option. If you want something more original, you can use the city fortification that are more than 300 years old and a big part of the heritage of the French colonisation. That can also be use about the part that they are the only territory in America that speak French as their first language.
So this is it, I’m not a graphic guy so won’t bring my personal branding.
 
 

Good riddance.

I am pretty happy to have Theme Week upon us again for that sweet sweet TPE.  I just spent the week in Coeur D’Alene Idaho at a nice resort that sits on the massive Coeur D’Alene lake.  The weather was nice, sun out, a much different environment than my home near Seattle Washington where it is chilly and take a guess?   Yep, raining!  Now, I have been told by my wife that the weather will be nice this weekend but I still don’t believe it.  Therefore, for my re-branding the beloved Seattle Bears hockey club will be moved to Coeur D’Alene Idaho.  
 
To start the re-branding thought the team name and colors must be changed.  I did some research into some current Idaho sports team names to get an idea.  We have the Idaho Vandals, Broncos, Idaho Steelheads (minor hockey), the North Idaho College Cardinals, and some high school team names of Mushers, Wampus Cats, Maniacs, Cutthroat, and the Braves- recently changed to Brave.
 
Some interesting names for sure but not something I had in mind for our new club.  Named for Native American tribe it is known for its enormous 25 square mile lake, small but vibrant city, and two amazing golf courses. The City sits on the border of Washington State and is close to a major airport in Spokane, WA.  Famous celebs that own homes in CDA are Wayne Gretzky, John Elway, and Tiger Woods.  Although, despite hosting a hockey camp at the nearby rink the Great One and family are rarely seen in town.  
 
So enough of a history and whats what with the City lets choose some team colors.  The identity of a team in Idaho must be one of ruggedness and grit.  Winters are harsh Idaho and the people need a little bit of nastiness to get through.  So that being said the colors for the new club with be a dark green with black lettering, outlined with silver border.  These colors will match the evergreen mountains that span the Inland Empire.  
 
The team name was difficult.  We could certainly keep the Bears team name since the brown and black bear populate the area heavily.  Certainly the Coyote, Mountain lion, Badger, Eagles, Hawks, Sturgeon, and other wildlife could all fit as well.    
 
I picked a few names that I liked and they are:
Maulers
Outlaws
Shadow
Renegades
Rampage
Misfits
Miners
Bone Crushers – Only for the cool logo in my head
 
It was hard and I went back and forth numerous times and changed the names numerous times.  I almost kept the Bears team name as well to honor my home State.  But I finally decided, and the new team’s name will be:
 
The Coeur D’Alene Rampage
 
So according to Marriam-Webster dictionary - Rampage: noun- : a course of violent, riotous, and reckless action or behavior.
 
I can think of no better team identity than this name.  I wish I was decent at graphics and I would have made a graphic but I am terrible at it so sorry.
