    Salutations VHLiens,

Welcome to the league's most anticipated VHL.com written article of the season, with the 8th-annual Bust or Lick draft review. You know the rules, there aren't any. I decide if the players are going to be good or not, based on logic and reasoning I don't have to back up or even divulge. Basically it's VHL Award voting if it were just one person and it was a draft review instead of awards.

    Let's get it.

BUST OR LICK - S77 VHL ENTRY DRAFT

    1.  Paul Atreides - @Mr_Hatter - I haven't even looked at picks 2/3/4 yet but this strikes me as the obvious #1 choice of the draft class. BoL has never had anything but licks at the 1st overall position, and that.......... IS FINALLY OVER. I got love for Hatter and he had an exceptional first-gen career. To not be long-winded, here's why it's a bust. The actual good MOS core is now gone with the mastermind of it all, Big Vic, stepping down. Hatter had a great rookie career, but it was on the backs of actual VHL legends like the philly bros and a certain iconic member who hatter also robbed of trophies. MOS under someone besides Victor is nowhere near the same tier of aura that Raymond Bernard was a part of. Hatter looks to build his first skater and should also sophomore slump in terms of career quality, just because that is very possible of happening on a team I think is not looking to revive the S70 glory days anytime soon. BUST.  *shocked gasps*

    2.  Reylynn Reinhart - @Ricer13 - Davos slides in with a lotto pick here and Gustav manages to probably fumble the bag with a BUST. I still haven't looked at who's pick 3/4 but here's the problem with this pick.... Ricer13 is well-liked and his name hold weight in the VHL community, but he's a fucking VHLM legend. His time and energy is dedicated to whatever goes on in the VHLM. There's no problem with this, and VHLM legendary members like him are necessary and do great work, but it doesn't translate to VHL success. I had to look up his last player (Kris Rice) and saw a decent PPG but cobwebs in the trophy cabinet. 1 of 2 things happens here, his VHL player is average again cuz he's committing his focus on his VHLM duties, or he gets a VHL GM job and fucks your team over that way. Bag = fumbled but it could be worse depending on who's left in the 1st round. Edit: It's far worse now that I saw pick 3.

    3.  Duncan Idaho - @OrbitingDeath - Oof. This pick ruined BoL S77 for me, personally. Legendary VHL member who really isn't even visibly active on VHL yet still cranks out dominant HoFer after HoFer. This pick does dilute some of what I wrote about MOS in pick 1, as Green brings a monstrous aura to any team and has winning pedigree. However, I'll stick with my claim and hedge my bet on MOS without Victor being meh and predict this plays out as a Condor Adrienne situation with Green statpadding individual awards but no major team success. You obviously can't give this pick anything other than LICK status though. So the full-BUST-draft dream ends here.

    4.  Zeedayno Chara - @Jubis - Yes! One of my original BUSTs has come full-circle to re-appear in the BoL rankings! I guess it makes sense since this is the 8th edition, but it didn't dawn on me until this pick. Jubis is a member with kind of a mixed reputation amongst the VHL, but for my money he's pretty good shit. I assume this is his second go at a career, and he comes with a big d-man build. There's something about esso's aura that gives me hope for NYA, but I've been saying that for like 8-10 seasons now, and it's gone absolutely nowhere. Definitely has the ability to crank out a HoF-tier player, but how can I give Jubis anything but a BUST? He never got a chance to throw player1's career back in my face, so I'll give him another chance with Zeedayno here.

    5. Brendan Telker - @Telkster - Very solid pickup here from rookie GM hylands, and I have some good history with Telkster as he was a part of Moscow's glory years as a very solid role player and iirc might have been the man to wear the C after Jaguar. Telkster is much like green IMO, a pretty grey-man type VHL member who doesn't cause much drama on the league stage so is kind of underrated but is committed to their team/player. I think hylands is capable of steering Malmo to success, so this is an interesting pick for me. I hope Telkster's second career is more all-star-tier calibre instead of role player, but I have to be convinced. BUST.

    6.  Asher Reinhart - @rjfryman - Massive oof here for picks 2, 4, and 5. fryman coming for his second career after a dominant showing with career 1. Can't go with anything but a LICK here even though he's going to a cursed franchise. Peace with possibly his first good 1st round pick of his tenure might have a player to build a team around here. Haven't spoken too much to fryman lately, so only thing that could go wrong here is him getting disillusioned with VHL and leaving. Look for Reinhart to leave TOR and win cups in late career.

    7.  Rolf Fizzlebeef Jr - @TacticalHammer - Could be a decent depth pick here. I remember Roll Fizzlebeef, so I guess this is the same member? Don't know too much about them and it's Calgary.... BUST.

    8.  Jan Hlozek - @Bojovnik - Hedge committed to his franchise model of unearthing the next great first gens. His sim-team philosophy clashes with mine, and that's okay! He's taken his vision and had success, albeit pretty spread out success, and his S77 first pick does not surprise me. It's a player/member I have never heard of before typing out this article. Good luck to you, young VHLer, may you be the next Mr_Hatter or rjfryman. I wouldn't bet on it though, and I love to gamble. BUST.

    9.  Aurelien Moreau - @Frank - Great sneaky pick from Jubo here. Frank is a legendary VHL member and has been back in-forum-force lately. He's got the aura and he's been cranking out sigs like a madman so you know he's got the PT capabilities stacked up. Activity is definitely a question, but to try and envision a reality where Frank stays active on VHL is worth it enough for me to throw my dawg a certified LICK status. IMO is worth a top-4 pick in this draft so getting him at 9 is a nice little play by Jubo. Playername is questionable because didn't DaTrifecta have a player named Moreau recently too?

    10.  That Dude - @Cornholio - Feel like I know this guy but don't know them. Possible SBAer? IDK why but he has the stink of beav on him so maybe his last player was on VAN? Either way, it's London, the player name is cringe, and I can't think of a single reason to support this being a lick so we'll go with the inevitable BUST.

    11.  Druss Deathwalker - @animal74 - Familiar username but I'm drawing a blank. Could be a good role player for hylands, but this draft class is devolving quickly. Don't know too much about the member, and player name is kinda cool but kinda cringe. Lick detector is basically giving no response anymore. BUST.

    12.  Gustislav Nasherov - @Vat - Hopefully Jubo knows something I don't because I literally know nothing about this pick/player which isn't a good sign for BoL determination. BUST but good luck to them.

    13.  Miles Johnson - @Midnite - Pretty solid pick considering the last 3-5 picks but it's Davos and I can't quite piece who the member is together. Possibly an SBAer? Apologies if we have a relationship but I remember very little about sim league affairs. BUST but good luck to ya.

    14.  Joe Madison - @Brewins15 - Another player/member I have no clue about. Like the last several picks, could be a rare first-gen HoFer but I sincerely doubt it. Probability is low. Good luck to him. BUST.

    15.  Hadrian - @bluesfan55 - This could actually be a snipe of a pick by muff. Pretty sure this member has been around sim leagues for awhile, could be an affiliate leaguer, I don't particularly know, or care, but I recognize his username. Obviously not giving a lick out at this point. This draft class looking garbo to me. BUST.

    16.  Barron Kruulenstien - @LefLop -  BUST... Just,  BUST.

Thanks for joining me for another edition of Bust or Lick. Not a particularly strong draft class by any means, but we still unearthed a couple LICKS so nothing wrong with that. This may actually be the lowest number of licks ever given out in a draft class, which is a little unfortunate, but historic never-the-less.

See ya for S78 where we will decide the fates of the next generation of VHL stars!

Hello everyone, and welcome to yet another edition of the VSN Mock Draft series.  As most of you know I'm MattyIce and I'll be bringing you the first round mock draft!  If you don't know me, I'm still MattyIce and its a pleasure for me to bring this mock draft to you.

It's my fourth season managing this list and this draft class was quite difficult to decipher, especially the order.  As I mentioned in my previous article, this draft has NO GOALTENDERS of note, so this isn't the draft to be looking to acquire some depth at that position.  However, there are quite a few gems available, you just gotta dig!  With the rosters filling up and GMs scrambling to get some breathing room under the $40m salary cap, teams are jockeying for position to get a quality player on their entry-level deals, so they can welcome them onto their roster without having to have a nervous breakdown worrying about the cap.

This first round class is quite exceptional, just take a close look at these sixteen players that made it to this exclusive list.  Some come from legendary lineage, while some are just beginning the VHL journey to hopeful stardom, or infamy, or whatever.  The point is...

    Their journey starts, NOW

And they're starting it all together.

Let's not waste any more time and get to the good stuff...

P.S.  All players were interviewed briefly and asked who they thought their NHL comparable model was, some players just chose not to answer, leaving the mystery intact...

What does Paul Atreides do well? Everything. His scoring prowess is reflected by scoring 42 goals and getting 106 points in his first full (and only) VHLM season, so alot is expected from him. Like Reinhart and Idaho, he comes from a background of success, so that furthers the expectations even more. Can he handle it? I think his development, season performance and a VHLM Founder's Cup Game 7 appearance has shown he's got the goods to acheive whatever he wants. She ticks all the boxes when it come to playing defense. She shoots alot from the point, creating scoring chances for her teammates in the slot off of rebounds and deflections, that is, if the puck she shoots doesn't have eyes for the back of the net. Her shot is wicked, scoring 27 from the blue line and adding five more in the playoffs. Another indicative stat is 58 shots in 16 playoff games, so her ability to create scoring chances from the point is a valuable asset to have. Reylynn is ready, like her twin brother, to step up her game to the VHL level. He hits, plays defense and scores, not much to complain about. Except his penalty minutes. You cannot score from the penalty box. Which is astonishing in some cases, but Chara comes from solid representation by Jubis. He's a very solid puck-moving defenseman, best one in the draft actually, so I hope you're taking notes! Only two goals to his credit in 36 games, but 27 assists to his name show his real priority: moving the puck to forwards who can thread that needle. He's a quick skater, can handle the puck quite well and his defensive ability is of VHL top 4 caliber, so he can slot right in and defend anyone, except for the top tier elite VHLers. Don't think he's just a goon out hunting for his next prey though, he can score, defend, handle the puck, and yes, drag his massive carcass up and down the ice, seemilgly withe ease. He's what you want in a prototypical power foward, and he's not apologizing for nearly ripping your head off after laying down the hammer. He skates extremely well, hits alot and hits hard, has pretty good hands for a defensive defenseman, and he defends his zone better than most. He pays almost no attention to scoring or passing, which is odd, seeing him put up 60 points is somewhat of a surprise. His -38 stat is also an anomaly, 176 shots from the point, 307 hits and 172 blocked shots are all somewhat not correlated to anything. What is certain about Moreau is that he's something special. His stats do NOT reflect what he can do in the future, so here's to more anomalies! He's so close to being VHL ready though, so don't count on him staying down this upcoming season. Fizzlebeef Jr has all the weapons needed to provide at the VHL level, with quick skating ability and great defensive IQ. He prefers moving the puck quickly forward, but he can handle the biscuit too if he chooses. His -21 stat could be indicative of a weaker than usual Las Vegas team, but that doesn't mean he can't climb to the plus side of things in seasons to come. He would be a welcome addition to this squad who could use his youth and skill moving forward. Brussels Sprout is quite the balanced player, but his season stats don't reflect what he can do. He was buried on a deep Minnesota Storm lineup, taking his reps when he could. Sprout was a plus 14 with only 18 points, showing he could be on a winning side. His foundation is solid, but he needs another season with the Storm to be ready for a potential season 78 call up, and that's where he can show off how much he will have grown. His skillset is more than sufficient to be dominant in the VHLM, but he needs a bit of work in all areas to get that call up. He put up an impressive 59 point rookie campaign, playing quite well at both ends of the ice. He also managed to throw the body around and block a decent amount of shots. It could have been anyone's guess that his size could have been an issue, but the naysayers were silenced and he slides close to the middle of the first round. His fundamental skills are very decent and provide a great launchpad for growth, which I most certainly belive he will do. An insane +41 stat shows off his defensive IQ, I didn't even mention the shot blocks, just look to your left (LOL). He's a nicely built defenseman and has no real holes in his game, for the VHLM that is. He isn't VHL ready yet, but he will take it upon himself to reach that next level and be a dominant player. His defensive game and his physical strength are very much lacking though, but he has some time to develop and fill out the holes in his game, especially playing without the puck. He's a great skater and a decent puck handler as well, so if he can solve his defensive lapses, he could be ridiculously effective. He hasn't shown a proficient level of offensive IQ, which may or may not work to his advantage, but zero goals and a measly ten shots on net in a 72 game season does leave a lot to be desired. He did play lower in the lineup, so the lack of ice time may have contributed to that. His ability level though is growing steadily, so like most of the draft class, another season at the VHLM level paired with more ice time could see an explosion of output from him. Don't get me wrong, he's not VHL ready yet, Glass still has some work to do on his game. He could be a dominant player next season for the 21st if he trains properly. He's quite balanced over the board as shown by his play, but what's lacking most is his strength. He's a taller specimen, but still somewhat lanky at 6'3 195 pounds. As a GM and Head Coach in the SBA, trying to learn the sim engine, FBB3, and crack and bend it to your will is something that I'm kinda expected to do. At the very least, I should have good game knowledge, the ability to help and support my players and give them good build advice, and explain my understanding of the game ratings and what they do. In that sense, I'm always interested in learning more about the engine and how it works and swapping notes with other people. But when I actually take a step back and look at it, I think I enjoy not knowing about the sim engine better. Recently, in another sim league that I'm in, I had to update my player for the first time in a long time, on an engine that was completely unfamiliar with me, and that hasn't been very well solved in the community. The idea of having to update with little to no stuff to base on, just results in the sims and the tagged names of the the attributes and tendencies that you can invest in, made the process a little more enjoyable. Maybe it's just me being burned out from looking at the SBA sim engine repeatedly, but I'm starting to suspect that the less I know about the sim engine, the more likely I'm willing to spend time in the league and just try stuff.

Lets take my player here for example. In SBA, I'm trying to min max my results and help my team in any way possible. In VHL, I have no understanding of the engine, heck, I don't even know what engine we are running. With that said, I know that the stats seem fairly straightforward, and that my goals are fairly straightforward, so I'm just going to be a specialist and try to max out 2 or 3 stats. I want to shoutout one of my favorite users of all time, @rory, for inspiring me to go down this path. I have to say that being his coach in the SBDL was one of the most fun experiences I've ever had, and he's inspired me so much and helped rejuvenate me for a while. In that sense, I was lucky to know the engine and try to help him accomplish his goals, but at the same time, now looking at here, not knowing the engine, and just updating the core stats I want while being a team player and buying into the team stats as well from time to time, have brought me more joy. I will be an ostrich, with my head in the sand.

For sure. As usual I tend to compare these things to the SHL which I generally prefer as a league, but they have gone all-in on test simming a few years back even while still on STHS and overall I think it hurt the league more than it helped and it ultimately led to STHS not even being feasible as an engine anymore because people found too many exploits and because we ended up with "meta" builds that you had to make if you wanted to be good. It's good to see that the VHL hasn't gone down that route. And over the last few years I have come to completely agree with you in that RNG is a good thing for these leagues, not a bad thing, even if it might be frustrating at times if you randomly lose to a team in the playoffs that you should've easily beat.

One of many reasons I don’t feel like we should be giving out our league file, and we don’t. Though test simming wouldn’t get you nearly as far in STHS in my experience. It has a good amount of RNG built in which some people despise but I kinda like. Sure it’s frustrating to lose when on paper you should have won but it’s super boring when everyone knows more or less the outcome of every game just by looking at the teams involved.

I completely agree with this sentiment! Leagues like this one tend to be more fun when you don't know all the details about the inner workings (and the weaknesses) of the engine imho, when there is a certain sense of wonder any uncertainty. Many leagues sooner or later hit a point where test-simming becomes the new cool thing to give you an edge and GMs and other front office stuff go hard on it and in my experience that usually ends up making things less fun for everyone involved in the end.

It's a weird feeling. A good feeling, sure, but it's weird. The Vancouver Wolves eliminated the D.C. Dragons in 5 games to make their way to the 2nd round. This marked the first time in S.S. Hornet's career, the Wolves latest acquisition, that his team made its way so far the playoffs - the first time he ever won a playoff series.

    Again, it's a weird feeling.

It had been feeling under the weather recently, it even considered hanging his robotic skates earlier than initially expected. Five seasons into its career, it doesn't feel as good about it, compared to when it started, when it took the league by storm and was selected first overall in the S72 VHL Entry Draft.

But a change of scenery made it possible for Hornet to feel hope again.
Hope that everything is not as bad as it seems.
Hope that it can play at an all-star level.
Hope that it can lift the Continental Cup once too.

    Pure, unshakable hope.

It helped that it played so well in that opening round too. 3 goals and 6 assists in 5 games. It was a great round for Hornet. It hadn't really ever played at that level before in his career. Against such a strong opponent too, the Dragons. Hornet basically contributed to pushing legends like Benny Graves and Guy Lesieur to retirement. It could already see the headlines: "Steambot S.S. Hornet leads Wolves to title." Or something like that. It was only one round, but it felt great. It felt like everything was back to normal, finally.

    Hope.

When you are feeling on top of the world. When you feel like no one can take you down, like no one can stop you. You have your target on sight and your mind is 100% set; you will reach that objective no matter what. You were feeling under the weather for a bit, but it's all behind you now. It's all forgotten already.

And then it all goes south anyway, because that is the way things go. Just then do you get to experience absolute despair. Feeling down is a thing. One more hit isn't all that bad. But feeling like things are finally turning for the best, only to turn to shit again.

    That's absolute despair.

Then the questions start piling up.
    "Was it my only chance?"
    "Am I worthless?"
"Would the team be better off without me?"
"Was this whole thing, this career, this life choice, was it all a big mistake?"

The answer should be obvious. For basically everybody they are. You got three more chances, and you are still one of the better power forwards in the league. It's not the time to abandon. You still got three opportunities to win that Cup.

The only problem is that Hornet can't see these answers. Right now, all Hornet sees is despair. His hopes has been shattered, and it seems like nothing can piece them back together.

    Despair.

    S77 VHL MOCK DRAFT:
Round 1, Pick 1: Paul Atreides (Hatter)

The first overall pick is something that every player who is eligible for being drafted aims for. Usually the first overall picked player becomes a legend in their own league, whether it be the National Hockey League (NHL), the major junior leagues, or our very own Victory Hockey League (VHL). In this case, I decided to select centerman Paul Atreides from the Houston Bulls for the first overall pick in the VHL Entry Draft. When looking at a player like Atreides, you would probably think something along the lines of, “The next big thing,” or the, “Potential greatest of all time from this draft.” For the people who said that, I agree with them. Not only did he put up a 106 (42G, 64A) point season, he led a team to the Founders Cup finals in the Bulls this season. A great leader and player all around, high in scoring (SC) and defense (DF); he is looking like a hall-of-fame caliber player.

Round 1, Pick 2: Duncan Idaho (OrbitingDeath)

OrbitingDeath’s right winger Duncan Idaho looks to be among the ranks of stardom with Atreides, being on the same team (the Bulls) and putting up 80 points (40G, 40A) in 72 regular season games. 302 shots and 40 goals proves that he is capable of finding twine night in and night out. His 80 SC and DF stat furthermore establishes his status as offensive powerhouse, with a scoring touch. He’s put up 270 hits this season alone, which is astounding, since he doesn’t seem like a physical player at all. That just proves how he can do everything on the ice, from scoring goals and passing, to hitting and playing defense. An all-around package, and he is very active, so he’s quite the talent.

Round 1, Pick 3: Asher Reinhart (rjfryman)

For the third overall pick, I predicted that centerman for the Bulls, Asher Reinhart would be picked by the London United. Reinhart’s offensive capabilities range out of just scoring and assisting on goals, he can shoot, and hit very well. He is also a superstar on the special teams, scoring 10 power-play goals (PPG) for the Bulls and scoring two short-handed goals (SHG) for them too. Being a true offensive threat, he put up a very nice 84 points (36G, 48A) in 72 games played this season, 295 shots and 107 hits. Being rj’s player, expect him to be at a TPA advantage over the other players in this draft, and to put up amazing numbers in his rookie campaign likewise. A great player, and a great guy, can’t wait to see him rock the league.

Round 1, Pick 4: Brendan Telker (Telkster)

For the fourth overall pick, I’m predicting that Minnesota Storm left winger Brendan Telker will be going to the New York Americans. The Americans need wing depth, and Telker provides just that. His scoring touch and his shooting skill will help the struggling United potentially get a championship in the near future. His 83 SC stat stands out in his build, and explains his 115 points (57G, 58A) this season, and his whopping 367 shot total this season. An offensive powerhouse, quite active, and he has the point production to back him up. A very solid 4th overall pickup for the Americans.

     Round 1, Pick 5: Reylynn Reinhart (Ricer13)

I believe that the Malmo Nighthawks will be selecting defenseman Reylynn Reinhart with the fifth overall pick in the draft this year. Reinhart is a beast: 64 points (27G, 37A) in 72 games as a defenseman, granted offensive defenseman, but still. She can put up points, be defensive with 80 shots blocked (SB) this season, and quarterback a power play with 14 PPGs. A defensive, offensive, and special teams unit. A player who can play on any line for a team like Malmo who desperately needs depth. Their best defenseman, Marshall James Frostbeard (Frostbeard’s player) is close to retiring, and is losing TPE gradually. If they choose Reinhart with this pick, they can throw in a very important piece to their core, as Ricer updates frequently, and is GMing for the Calgary Wranglers currently. Reinhart is the real deal for defensemen in this draft. Hall of fame potential, with an incredible drive to win. Very solid fifth overall pickup.

Round 1, Pick 6: That Dude (Cornholio)

For the sixth overall pick, I’m predicting the Toronto Legion will take centerman That Dude from the Minnesota Storm. In season 76, Dude had a very good season, scoring 75 points (30G, 45A) in 72 games, 14 of those goals were on the power play, and he had 239 shots. There is a simple explanation for his play, and that is in his SC stat, which is 80 alongside his DF stat. He also handles the puck and skates very well, as his skating (SK) and puck handling (PH) stats are both 75. Sure, some would call his build “generic,” but I would call it just fine. Considering how he updates frequently and in large amounts per week, knows where to put TPE into, and how the Legion need centermen, it’s a really good pick for them. I believe that Mr. Dude has the potential of being a very reliable first line centerman down the road, scoring at least 70 points each season. Very good player, has offensive upside and a scoring touch. Sixth overall this year fits him well.

Round 1, Pick 7: Aurelien Moreau (Frank)

With the seventh overall pick in this years’ VHL Entry Draft, I’m predicting that the Calgary Wranglers will select, from the Mississauga Hounds of the VHLM, defenseman Aurelien Moreau. When you look at the stats for Moreau, one thing hits your eye: his 88 DF stat. That makes him an amazing defensive player already, but that combined with his 77 SK and his 70 checking (CK) stats solidifies himself as one of the best in the draft. While the Wranglers may look stacked in defense on paper, most of those players are old, and approaching their final seasons. Their top defenseman RJ Jubis (Jubis’ player) is retired, and General Zod (Matt_O’s player) is close to hitting the retirement point. So going out and getting a guy like Moreau would be smart. A very good defensive player, he deserves the seventh overall spot in this year's entry draft.

Round 1, Pick 8: Zeedayno Chara (Jubis)

For the eighth overall pick, I predict that Miami Marauders defenseman Zeedayno Chara will be picked by the Riga Reign. Chara is a two-way defenseman with 81 DF and 75 SK and PH being his strong points on his build. His 60 SC stat makes him capable of producing some points, and he has proven that, putting up 29 points (2G, 27A) in 36 games this season with the Marauders. He can lay the body around, and block shots with 55 hits and 50 SB. He got one of his two goals on the power play, making him a solid presence on the man advantage, and his ability to play defense well makes him a solid penalty killer too. A very good all around defenseman, with the ability to set up an offense and lead the back-check. Potential to be on a top pair and maybe HOF if he continues to produce. Solid pickup on a team like the Reign that can always use better defensemen to backup their young offensive core.

Round 1, Pick 9: Rolf Fizzlebeef Jr. (TacticalHammer)

Taking a glance at the Helsinki Titan’s defense, they’re top players are leaving soon, with very few prospects to back them up. That’s why, for the ninth overall pick, I’m predicting that Las Vegas Aces defenseman Ron Fizzlebeef Jr. will be selected by the Titans. Fizzlebeef Jr. possesses real talent. Being the player of TacticalHammer, he’s very active and max earns each week. He also has a build of 80 DF, 75 passing (PA), 75 SK, and 75 PH and hit you right away. He has an amazing build for a defenseman, and his stats back it up. 57 points (7G, 50A) and 107 shots, 115 SB and 105 hits, and six PPG’s. I would consider Fizzlebeef Jr. to be one of the dark horses of the draft, but it’s still pretty early on.

Round 1, Pick 10: Jan Hlozek (Bojovnik)

The DC Dragons are in need of defensive prospects, and Saskatoon Wild defender Jan Hlozek would provide an almost perfect player for the Dragons. His higher than average SC stat of 76 would throw many off, but it shows potential for some high scoring seasons. His 75 DF and 72 SK stat also catches the eye, and solidifies himself as a solid offensive defenseman. Considering how the Wild were lacking in talent all around, Hlozek was on the first pair, which means he got a lot of exposure. He seemed to handle it well, putting up 59 points (13G, 46A) in 72 regular season games. He had 93 SB too, proving how he can be a very defensive player at times. He would provide a solid defenseman who could make it on the first pair, but the second pair for sure if he continues to update frequently and continue his build. High potential, and solid talent.

Round 1, Pick 11: Miles Johnson (Midnite)

For the 11th overall pick in this years’ entry draft, I predict that the Nighthawks, with their second first round pick, will take Halifax 21st left winger Miles Johnson. During his time with the 21st, Johnson has put up some very respectable numbers, having a 60 point showing (32G, 28A) in 72 games during season 76. His build’s highlights consist of 82 SC, 76 PH, and 70 SK stats. The low defense is a slight concern, but it’s made up for in his SC. A very offensive minded winger, Johnson has put up a whopping 265 shot total in his first season. That goes to show how gifted of an offensive player he is, plus his six PPG’s makes him a valuable asset on the special teams. I cannot wait to see where this prospect goes, considering the talents before him. A sky-high potential, with offensive talent, Johnson fits well on a team that needs LW depth.

     Round 1, Pick 12: Brussels Sprout (Liberty_Cabbage)

For the 12th overall pick, I predict that the Titans will select Storm centerman Brussels Sprout. Since I predicted that the Titans would get a defenseman early on, I went with another weakness they have: center depth. Sprout would provide a solid centerman for their depth, while also producing. His numbers may not be at the level of the other players before him, but he was on a very offensively stacked Storm squad this year, with him being a second liner at best. He put up 18 points (2G, 16A) in 72 games this season, none of which came while on the powerplay/shorthanded. His build is pretty average, his highest of stats consisting of 78 DF, 70 SC, and 66 SK. He has the potential to be a solid two-way forward powerhouse, when given the proper ice time. I like his upside, he has a good build, just needs a bigger stage to shine on.

Round 1, Pick 13: Nixon Caldwell (Kendrick)

For the 13th overall selection, I predict that the Dynamo will go for re-create defenseman from the Philadelphia Reapers, Nixon Caldwell. When the Reapers needed defense the most, Caldwell stepped in, and put up numbers for his squad, scoring 51 points (5G, 46A) in 72 regular season games. His build is more on the offensive side, with 75 PH, and PA, 70 SC, but only 68 DF and 69 SK. Apart from his more offensive defenseman build, his defensive capabilities are shown in many ways, as he put up 96 SB and 79 hits this season. Not the best defenseman in the draft, but certainly not the worst. He’s a very good player with some great upside, I could see him playing first d-pair to second d-pair for the Dynamo within a few seasons from now. He’s also a re-create, making him a very attractive player in the draft. Would I call him a dark horse? No. But would I call him a talented player? Yes.

     Round 1, Pick 14: Kyle Glass (Tbeez99)

This pick was going to come sooner than later. For the 14th overall selection, I predict that the Vancouver Wolves will take 21st right winger Kyle Glass. Glass is a pretty big playmaking forward, considering how he got 58 points (19G, 39A) in 72 games this season. Most of his points were assists. His build is quite nice, the highlights of which, consisting of 75 SC, DF, PH, and SK. Very balanced offensive build, which is a good thing to see. Considering the state of Wolves forwards, many of which will be unrestricted free agents (UFA) in two seasons from now, the point of time when Glass would be in a very solid state to produce for the Wolves. A well built, offensive capable winger, I think the Wolves would love to have a player like Glass leading the charge on their offense.

Round 1, Pick 15: Joshooo (Joshothegreat)

For the 15th overall pick, I predict that the Warsaw Predators will take Ottawa Lynx centerman Joshooo. When looking at the numbers that Joshooo has produced, you automatically see the 121 points (49G, 72A) in 72 games that he has racked up this season. Sure, he may be on a shorter than average Lynx roster, but 121 points no matter what team is incredible. His build has notable points, consisting of his 75 SC, 72 DF, and 70 PA and SK. More into puck handling would’ve made him look like a powerhouse offensively, but he doesn’t yet have the TPE to raise it up to 70 yet. On top of his point totals, he also put up a whopping 456 shots this season alone. That explains his production somewhat, but also he was on a weaker Lynx roster. Since the Predators need center depth, Joshooo provides that and more. Sure, he might only claim welfare and practice each week at least, he still updates frequently, which is a must. A true dark horse in the draft, in my opinion. Talented and contains first line potential.

     Round 1, Pick 16: Hadrian (bluesfan55)

For the other Wranglers pick in the first round, I predict that they will take Mexico City Kings defenseman Hadrian 16th overall. Hadrian is a great example of a two-way defender in the VHL, having 80 DF and 70 SC being his two main attributes. He put up some respectable numbers being a defenseman, with 33 points (11G, 21) in 72 regular season games. That, along with his 98 SB and 177 hits this season, tells me that he is that two-way player I predicted. His build is nice, he has potential (with his updating) and he boasts some talent on the blue line. I think he will do well for the Wranglers in the seasons to follow.
