Using this just for the hair

Defender Ko Kane has probably been the best skater for Davos this year. He will not garner much support for awards consideration this season but it could be coming in the future. With the league adding a best defensive dman award it opens up a real chance for the big body presence to win some silverware. He has 1 goal this year adding 5 assists for 6 points and while those numbers are far behind other defenders on better teams, when considering the Dynamo's poor offensive output so far, it actually shows how important he has been this year. The most notable stat he has is a -9 +/- when put up against other players on his team, including star Felix Savard, he looks like a legit player in this league.

The Charm and Joseph Bassolino have looked real bad in contrast so far. The two centres are struggling to put up points while playing big minutes. People had some high expectations for them heading in to their careers, but some are beginning to wonder. Charm has 3 points and the first overall pick has 4. It's early in their careers but they need to improve drastically for them to live up to the expectations. Jeff Gow is looking pretty good relatively speaking with 5 goals and 3 assists. He may never become the player he was drafted to be but he can still be a cheap depth option. Elias Sobeck has been the best of the young forwards on the team with 2 goals and 4 assists. He is looking like a great option for the future as well.

One player who is not talked about a lot is Diego Jokinen. He has spent his entire career in limbo playing for Davos and while he has had some good years, he has never reached a certain level of play. This year, in what is rumored to be his last, the Finish defender has 7 points in 21 games while giving good leadership for the young team. This year's second overall pick is looking like the right one. He has 7 points from the blueline and has a +/- of -11, again along with Kane, showing his worth in his own zone. He should develop and be a defender of the future for this club.

There is no article about Davos without including their MVP Shawn Brodeur. With a young team it is highly expected you will face a lot of shots and let in a lot of goals. However, Brodeur has been stellar this year. He has a 4-16 record which looks awful, but he a .922 save percentage and a 2.61 goals against. These, to me, reflect MVP type numbers on such a bad team as we are currently. He won't get much attention for the award, but he is looking like one of the best young players in the league at any position. Once goalies like Markus King and Ironside start to depreciate and retire, Brodeur will be there to catch the torch as one of the leagues best goalies.

With just 1 win to start the season, and Davos clearly focused on the future, is there any regret in jumping from the VHLM to the VHL this early in your career?

“No, I wouldn’t have believed you. It’s a dream come true just to be drafted, let alone second overall to a historic franchise such as Davos. I couldn’t be happier right now and can’t wait to get things started with the franchise.”

That was Las Vegas Aces defensemen Brandon Hood speaking to a reporter immediately after the draft, regarding where he thought he would be a year ago today. Also pointed out in his interview with the reporter was that he knew he had played well during the regular season but didn’t view that as reason to be selected ahead of some of his draftmates.

“I figured I would fall a littler lower in the draft to the reputation of some of my draftmates. I know guys like Lawson, St-Laurent, and Lebrunette come with quite the reputation, and I was prepared to see them get their names called before me. I mean it when I say I was truly honored to be selected with such a high pick, and I’m going to do everything in my power to help bring this franchise a championship.”

Along with Hood, Davos selected center Joseph Bassolino first overall, and the two are expected to be important pieces in the Dynamo’s rebuild. Dynamo fans have to be please with the results of the draft Tuesday night, netting two great players.

    From @CowboyinAmerica:

1: I've been happy with everything in Davos so far. We've got a young team that I can develop with, and think that I will fit in well with the personalities around me, as well as the long term plans of the team.

2: I haven't looked around the league all that much, but that's great to hear. I plan on earning about 10 TPE/week, so I think it's a possibility for sure. It likely won't occur until later in my career though, with guys like Ko Kane and Keaton Louth being drafted a couple seasons before me and hitting there prime sooner.

    From @Smarch:

1: I expect it will be a rough season for us. As you said, we're a young team that needs to take some time to develop, but the future is bright, and I'm more then willing to go through some hard times in order to get to the good times, which by the looks of things, shouldn't be too far away. While I expect this season we will be near the bottom of the league, we'll only get better with time, and I see us making the playoffs as early as my 3rd season with the team (assuming no roster moves are made).

Strong Season 59 draft leading to hope in Davos

The 59th VHL season is getting closer and closer with each passing day. The World Cup is currently ongoing and it looks like it could be a pretty interesting result there. I opnely admit in my 40-50 seasons being apart of the VHL I've never really cared about the World Cup. No idea why just never felt any strong connection to the teams playing there. However I have been tyring to check in this season as much as I can so I am happy to say both my players, Slava Aleksei on Team World, and The Charm on Western Europe have done pretty well relative to expectations. The Charm is one of the worse players in the entire tournament and is playing a third line depth role. Despite that he has a goal which is a nice momentum builder heading in to the regular season with Davos.

The season upcoming should be much like last year in terms of teams who will compete. Riga are likely favorites looking for a threepeat, while Seattle, Toronto and the young Americans will all put up a challenge this year. If I had to rank them, I would put Riga one, Toronto two, Amricans three and Bears four but obviously a lot can, and will, change between now and the end of the season. For  my part, Davos should be, if not better, at least more relevant this year. We will have actives at every positions now which is a change of pace from last season. Ko Kane remains our future on defense while Felix Savard is entering his final non-depreciation season but should be a mainstay for a few seasons. Jokinen is entering the twilight of his career but is still a good second pair guy to have and may be a depth addition for a contender if he chooses to waive his NTC. The battle for the final defense position between Dragon McCragon and the second overall pick Brandon Hood is underway. Both are similar players while Hood is a season younger. Botjh are part of my long term plans and although Jardy has been busy with life recently he should still have a solid VHL career. If both make the team I will be at 5 defenseman and will maybe need to make a move eventually. Either way my top two guys this season are the same as last, Kane and Savard.

Forwards are looking, for the first time, at least interesting. We have Charm, Bassolino and Elias Sobeck making the jump this year. All three forwards will probably at least start the season together to see if we can't develop something looking like chemistry with them. They all play the same position at centre but for now the important part is getting them together and seeing what they can look like. Jeff Gow is returning and although he has been a bit of a bust so far, he still is a 300 TPE depth player who may wind up being a cheap key piece in a playoff run. Might look to sign a free agent forward or even move a defender up front, but for now at least we have the outline of our team set.

In net we are returning the same two goalies as last year. Shawn Brodeur is the starter and our star player as far as I see it. He should improve with a much better team in front of him this year. M1stake is a veteran backup who can win us games when we need him to. Not sure if there would be any but with cap hell hitting certain teams he might be trade bait.

    will add pictures later

.1. I'm expecting to go somewhere in the top-4. I've only been contacted by one team, and it was one of the teams in the top-4. I'm also aware of how weak this draft class is. The only guys I could see being taken ahead of me are @diamond_ace, @Smarch, and @FacePuncher.

    2. I was thinking the same thing, but after getting 30 TPE from compensation, and 20 from the VHLM achievement tracker, I'm still debating whether it will be best for me to stay down another season, or go straight to the VHL. I'll have to speak with the manager of my VHL team, and go from there. If I do go back down, I'm sure we'll have a much more successful season, and I think I'll have a good shot at winning some awards.

    3. It's been pretty good. Having guys like @Spade18 and @diamond_ace around really helped me get acclimated quickly, and I think I'd now be able to do the same thing to anyone who steps into the league next season.

    Thanks for the questions.
