Denver got a reaction from BOOM in Post Practice Interview
    POST PRACTICE INTERVIEW

At the end of a practice over the weekend the media caught up with Yukon’s Ryan Cattrall who’s been having an incredible season for his team as they begin to wind down the first half of the season, the media asked questions about his surprisingly improved numbers over the course of the season and where he thinks the team will end up before the playoffs.

Q: “How’s it be readjusting to being a member of the Yukon Rush?”

A: “There wasn’t much adjusting, the coaching staff is the same. I really was amazed at being afforded the opportunity to make a comeback. The guys in the locker room welcomed me back without a problem. They all knew I was ready to work, that was good enough for them.”

Q: “statically speaking you’re one of the best players in the VHLM at the moment, what’s been your key to success to begin the season and have you changed anything about your approach for the season?”

A: “I haven’t really changed anything. Most people seem to think it must be the skates or something. I’m just really enjoying my teammates and playing back here in Yukon to be honest. We all want to have a successful season and hopefully make the playoffs. I’ve been taking it a game and a practice at a time this season, last season I had to learn to slow down. Rome wasn’t built in a day and good things come to those who wait, and of course do what needs to be done to be ready.”

Q: “How serious are you taking you’re role as an Alternate Captain?”

A: “Wearing any form of captaincy on your jersey is an honor. I take the “A” very seriously so I try to lead by the best example that I can set…I suppose that’s why I’m playing so great right now, we’ve got a lot of young guys who are hungry and want to improve themselves before heading into the draft. My job is to make gaining experience as easiest as possible. I’ve been here a few seasons I’m supposed to help them out.”

Q: “Last season you made the second round of the playoffs with the Oslo Storm, where do you see this incarnation of the Yukon Rush fairing at the end of the season?”

A: “The playoffs. I want to right a bit of a wrong from a few season ago, even if it's technically not my wrong to right. I was on the team and I feel like as a group we could’ve made that extra push to make the playoffs. As you can tell, that’s eaten away at me a little bit. I’m bringing a bit of experience in ‘getting’ to the playoffs and actually playing a series but I’m fairly new at that aspect of being in the “big game” atmosphere that’s only a footstep away from the VHL.”

Q: “Can you talk about how you and your line, how’ve you been able to gel so well with them as the season progresses?”

A: “I don’t want to score a ton of goals. (laughs)  That just comes from having really great chemistry at the moment. All credit goes to both Köenig and McJustice for being amazing teammates in allowing me just to play through my game.”

Q: “This is pretty much you’re final season in the VHLM, how excited are you to get back to the Meute and start you’re Rookie season, do you have any regrets for getting such a late start in the VHL?”

A: “Originally after they brought me over the plan was for me to be VHL ready before the start of the season, but plans were changed and I was told I should gear up and try to make the most of a last rites season in the VHLM. I really don’t have any regrets about it, this is hockey, and you’re supposed to learn from the outcomes of games and choices you make while being able to play the sport you love. I wouldn’t change anything about my current situation, next season I’m going to keep working hard and try to provide the Meute with the best version of the wing they traded for.”

    RISE OF THE NEXT GENERATION
by Denver - VHL Headline Writer

Where have all the Superstars gone? That’s the one million dollar question that’s sparking interest everywhere. It’s exactly what the VHL magazine wants to know. At the moment there seemed to be an interesting uprising of players who’ve been waiting in the wings, guys who were roleplayers for their VHL clubs are finally starting to emerge, further interesting is how many rookies are stepping out from behind the ‘supposed’ rookie struggle. Call it blind dumb luck or some type of higher power as guys you wouldn’t have given a second glance as being an impact for their team, actually are and they’re getting really good at making a note to show everybody how good they are becoming.

As the VHL becomes progressively younger the game seems ushers in an interesting prospect of taking a hit in terms of goals scored and stats garnered over an entire season. This isn’t saying gone are the days of seeing a high scoring game or a player dominate an entire time, but it could become rare on the occasion that the steady up rise of players becoming better and better as seasons progress continues being an on-going trend. The rookies are adjusting well for the most part, much better than the previous season, and even those who aren’t on the VHL ice this season (here’s looking at you VHLM) are showing they’ve got what it takes to play at the next level. The top half of the VHLM looks like they could be line-ready by the end of the season, ushering an interesting increase in younger talent to be excited for in the pre season, but what does this mean for older players who aren’t exactly in the twilight of their careers? It’s just going to be interesting seeing them maintain their position, they can’t hold it forever and it seems like younger players are starting fresher and fresher on the TPE scale and climbing it in less time that it took those ‘big names’ to get.

Not every “old guy” is going to go out without a fight, however, it seems to be an interesting idea to see a young guy come in and uproot a cornerstone of a club from time to time. It hasn’t exactly happened yet, but it could. The future is looking very bright, and while that seems like a problem special events may or may not become more meaningful take the World Cup for example. The World Cup this year was as interesting is ever, how interesting would it be if it was completely held with a younger core of guys helming their countries hopes for any type of metal?

The next generation of VHL player seems like only a concept that’s slowly but surely growing into a very mindful reality. As more retirees happen to retire to wrap up careers that had a range of success, we should see an increase of nods for players gain admittance to the hall of fame. Cup wins is another area it should effect as the next generation should be the biggest chance of rebuilding clubs or clubs who’ve made the playoffs regularly to win, now’s a perfect time to draft smart and draft with dynasties in mind. No matter how hard it may appear for them to happen, back-to-back wins might be nice…but winning four or five seasons plus is making a statement.

CATTRALL OFF TO A HOT START!

Only nine games into the Rush’s current VHLM season and already it seems like the team is emerging as they seemingly are starting to hit their stride. Amongst those who are performing well, Ryan Cattrall finds himself with a very interesting yet very welcoming start as he seems to not only be the co-leader of points on the team at 17 but he’s scored 7 goals and netted himself 10 assists not to mention scoring a single game tying goal and two game winning goals. Not only has he been able to assists his teammates he’s improved a dipping shot percentage over the course of three games.  If he keeps this pace up the entire season, there’s no reason that he couldn’t help his team push and get into the playoffs deep into the season. This is start is a vast improvement and looks to be on par if not better than his previous season of 30-35-65 not to mention the 16 total power play points he scored with the Oslo Storm, this year however that could be beaten if he can continue to perform at the high level he’s been performing at…
