Well damn, this season's team looks a lot different than last season's. I've mentioned it here and there, but making the decision to pull the trigger on a rebuild was pretty difficult - especially knowing that we could have kept all of our veterans and made one last push before we lost most of the team to retirement and FA. However, the organization has the opportunity to level set after 9 straight seasons of extremely strong performances - and 35 awards coming to the team and our players. As we enter the S90's, like we did entering the S80's, it's time to feature a new generation of players who will lead us into the future. We've got a couple familiar faces left on the team, so we've got a nice mix of new and old players making up our leadership team. First Alternate - Nils Andersson - @Viper Typically, I assign captaincy and alternates based on tenure with the team or overall experience in their careers. Viper and Andersson buck that trend, but for very good reason. For those unfamiliar with Viper, he's had a pretty lengthy history of inconsistency with players and a reputation of fizzling out early in his players' careers. When we drafted Andersson back in S88, Viper and I had some chats about how we'd approach this player and how we could keep him going, regardless of any obstacles in his way. Now entering his third VHL season, Viper is poised to have his highest TPE player ever, and has become a great voice to have in the LR and with our advisors. He's learned from mistakes in the past and has showed a lot of maturity since I first met him three years ago, and I'm very confident in giving him an 'A' here in Moscow. Second Alternate - Babay Shrimp - @Blazzer A new face to the team, but a player and user who have already settled into the locker room quite comfortably. There was no shortage of suitors for Babay Shrimp this offseason, and despite Moscow's status as a rebuilding team, Blazzer was more than happy to join us for at least a season and be part of our organization and contribute to our culture. A veteran player who will be able to guide the young forwards on our team, we expect big things from Shrimp on and off the ice this season! Captain - Hammar Voss - @BOOM A long time alternate captain for four seasons now, Hammar Voss takes a step beyond simply being the best defenseman in the VHL, to becoming the Moscow captain. I suppose we're buying into the meme here that Moscow captains always end up off the team the following season since Voss is retiring after this season, but it might have been the easiest captain decision I've made as a GM. Boom is involved in our LR in all aspects, whether it's providing our players with gorgeous sigs, helping to guide our team plans, posting boobs or just chatting with folks, he's been one of my favorite acquisitions to the team outside the draft. I hope we can send a future HOFer off with a great final season! Congrats to all named to the leadership team! MOSCOW MOSCOW MOSCOW

It was much, much worse to not have them in a dropdown. You'd scroll on the page even more imo. If it's not liked, I can go back to not having a dropdown next time. I just won't have people typing in names for spelling/formatting issues with the scoring sheet.
-
VHL players only to be selected, there's a dropdown in the form, those are the only eligible players. Scoring follows VHFL, but you're competing against everyone, not in groups. Your team of 3 forwards, 2 defensemen, 1 goalie will play against everyone else's teams.

I'm single-handedly saying no to inflation, maybe our world leaders should learn from me.

It's me again! No, I did not forget about Super Coach, have just been a bit busy. But the timeframe for this season will match last season's of about 4/5 days total. This timeframe helps me avoid position changes now that the index has been made, and aligns with the predictions deadline. For a refresher on the rules, please refer to this thread: Submission Deadline: After first VHL Sims on Friday, August 25th Link to Team Builder (Instructions on the first tab): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/19p0YqGgN2-g51b2PMfhcSGxGBhGlofUUbSAocVYxr8w/edit?usp=sharing Fill out the form below to enter:

In Which I Rework Depreciation and Then Decide I Don't Like My Own Idea
Spartan replied to Gustav's topic in Media Spots
I would want to clarify that there's a difference between people halting their earning to stay under a threshold, vs choosing not to go up if they're between the 300-400 bracket to be called up. No player in our most recent draft class was over 400 TPE (Doom is 413 TPE after 3 weeks) so no one is stopping their earning to play in the E after their draft season. When we had people "accidentally" going over 200/250 TPE and asking to get TPE revoked, it was a massive annoyance since the M culture also encouraged it. Personally, I don't think choosing to follow a natural progression of 1 full M season, getting VHL drafted and then 1 full E season means that we need to change depreciation to encourage more people leave the E sooner. And I say that as someone who has skipped the E for 9 seasons and dealt with the depreciation, and now as a recreate who plans to take it easy and just get 8 VHL seasons instead of 9 (though I am a goalie). I think the benefit of the current system is the choice to flex within the range, and no one sacrifices TPE for a decision. If it's too easy to get over 400 TPE before a threshold, then we need to revisit how much uncapped we hand out imo. -

I mean wasn't the whole point of adding a 9th season to compensate for the E's addition as a new natural stage through a player's career? Before the E, you could reasonably be expected to hit 250 TPE by the time of your VHL draft as long as you created around the TDL, and you'd get 8 VHL seasons. If you created any later though (like 4/5 weeks after the deadline in my case with Letang), you wouldn't cross that hard cap and would get only 7 VHL seasons. With the inclusion of the E, obviously we had some changes around call-ups and eligibility over the seasons, but it just wouldn't be realistic that you get drafted and immediately play in the VHL for 8 seasons. The E was expected to be a stepping stone after the M, hence the extension to player careers from 8 seasons to 9. 9 seasons isn't just some guaranteed thing everyone should be able to accomplish, and if people do opt into 9 seasons, it should understandably be more difficult since they're effectively getting a bonus season over the majority of their draft class. So if people feel that preparing for 12% depreciation (with a Jagr) in their final season isn't worth it, then sure, stick with the typical career path of 1 E season after being VHL drafted and have the same 8 VHL seasons you'd have under the old system without the E. At the end of the day, even if someone stays down for 1 season in the VHLE to avoid that 12%, they're still getting a full 8 season VHL career - which is still a more forgiving system than the old 250 cap that was harsher for first gens and anyone not creating at the optimal time. So he comes up at 410 TPE, earns 20 more TPE that season (since he's a very casual earner) and then gets slapped with 12% depreciation? Why? Who does this help? The 1000+ TPA players are worried about 400 TPA, 2 season VHL players? -
A lot has happened since my last VHL.com just a week ago. I'd been going back and forth for a couple weeks, debating if I wanted to recreate and if so - when? I had a lot of people encouraging me to do so, as well as providing input as to when that occurrence should be. I also had to figure out what position I'd create, as well as a name. Both were things I had prepared well in advance back when Alex Letang was retiring in S79. I knew that I was going to create a winger and had some names rooted in Greek ethnicity brainstormed, with the names that didn't make the final cut going over to Laine and N0H. This go around, I simplified it a bit and just went with a nickname/meme for Oliver Sykes, the frontman for Bring Me the Horizon. And for a position, I went with the one position group I've never experienced before, goalie. I timed my creation to be shortly before the VHLM Draft eligibility cutoff, just so that I didn't have to deal with selecting a team afterwards. I was happy to be selected in the second round by Arce and the San Diego Marlins, where the team has quickly begun to come together with the draftees and some older faces from the S70's. While initially I was expecting for the Marlins to not be a very strong team, I'm not realizing that expectations will be quite high for a team like this entering the season full at nearly all positions, and sporting some strong talent. I'm just asking to hate this career as a goalie, so my expectations are pretty low. If I can have some half decent stats and not be a total liability, I'll be happy. But with my luck, I know it'll be a struggle. The goal will be to get max carryover and then decide if it's time to pull the plug on a failed experiment.

Appreciate you for being here in the short time you were in our LR, but felt it was best to get players to contenders when possible/made sense. Thank you for your short stint here with us @MrMom, best of luck with LA! Cheers for the chats @InstantRockstar!

Welcome to the new season of VHFL! Below is the randomly assigned draft order for your group. The draft is conducted in a snake order, meaning that each round goes in reverse order of the last. There is a time limit of 12 hours per pick. If the person ahead of you has not picked in their 12-hour slot, you may make your selection, and they can make up their pick anytime after the skip. If a member misses two picks without communicating to me or the GM - not necessarily consecutive, they will be disqualified and the team will be drafted by me or a filler I appoint. If someone has two picks in a row and fails to do the first one before 12 hours pass, tag them and give them another 12 hours for the second pick in a row. Once you have made your selection, tag the person following you. Group Manager: It is your responsibility to make sure that picks are being made within 12 hours, and if not, that the clock keeps going for the next pick. Please also have a complete roster within the first few posts of the thread - this saves me time later so that you get your results faster! Please also be sure of each player’s position, and that they are not retired nor in the VHLM before adding them to your roster! When maintaining the updated roster, please copy the roster template below, exactly how it is. Make sure to also spell player names properly when updating your group. Do NOT copy the roster for every single pick. Here are some useful links: VHFL Rules S89 VHFL Top Skaters S89 VHFL Top Goalies If there are any issues, tag the group manager or me. The draft is now live - good luck!
